It handled well, rode well, and it was quiet--a good thing to me.

But the car I drove had a annoying hesitation/slip when the transmission shifted from 1st to 2nd. Is this a problem with this car or is it a problem with the G8 V6 model? Did anyone else notice slipping?

I could not test drive the GT as it was sold.

When you say the transmission had a "slip", do you mean a reluctance to shift up? Did it occur only when the engine was cold? If so, it may actually be by design. I noticed that on my '97 Catera when I bought it new. The dealer told me it was normal for the first shift of the day and helped warm up the oxygen sensors or something like that. I was worried there was a problem with the transmission that would show up down the road (like after the warranty was up), but it never became a problem. Still does it on cold mornings.

This morning I test drove a GT. Considering the small difference in mileage, I think the GT is the only way to go.

There should a bigger difference in price between the 2 models...

Not as much as you'd think about $2000 difference.

Yeah, there's only $2k difference, he's saying that the price difference should be greater than the $2k it is. And I think I tend to agree. $25-$26k for a V6 model I would think would be a little more realistic.

OH! I can be a little dense.

True, but the V6 is probably the more expensive car to make, with quad cam, VVT and a variable inlet manifold.

I wouldn't say that. Its a volume V6 engine for GM now. They put it in Chevys, Saturns, Buicks...you name it. The V8 has to cost a bit more to make.

I drove a V6 this weekend and noticed then engine seemed louder than my Grand Prix. However, it seems like it was exhaust noise. Anybody else have the same opinion?

I think a lot of people have said this. I would put it down to the 3.6 V6 having to work harder pushing around a car that weighs much the same as a V8 model.

i am a proud v6 owner and i cant complain, the car is still pretty fast considering all the weight its pushing...

Hey guys, I'm an owner of a V6 Holden Calais (The luxury version of the G8 here in Australia), and I think you'll find the problem with the G8 V6 being so raspy/noisy is the amount of sound deadener in the car from stock.

My Calais comes from factory with a lot of sound deadener in most panels which leaves it as quiet as quiet could be, rather than the loud raspy noises you all seem to have a problem with in the G8.

However, back on track about the transmission; it seems to clunk when down-changing but usually only on a very cold day, I find that no other days it does this.

I agree with you. I test drove a Malibu, Aura and G8 on Saturday. I like hearing the engine and exhaust....so the V6 G8 won me over in that category. Though i can get a loaded Malibu for about the same as a base G8...but the G8 looks so much better.

I'm in the same boat, as the Malibu is cheaper but I like the G8 because it is so much more sportier. My other cheaper alternative is an HHR SS, which can be had for around $25K loaded, and also has a $2500 rebate. The HHR has as much HP as the G8 V6 or the Malibu V6.

The other advantage of the HHR is that it is smaller in size, which is good for me because I park in a lot of parking garages for work related travel. And I already have a full size pickup for family travel. The G8 is a BIG car - even bigger than my GP, I believe.

Ja the V6's make alot of noise.

The V8's are not as a good deal as you think if.............. you drivr around town alot.

You will get 15 mpg. just as it is rated.

Actually MPG is irrelevant as even a 1 cylinder engine will get 0 MPG if it’s not moving.

What is relevant is actual fuel efficiency or actual fuel used under a given circumstance.
As of right now our V-6 uses 20% less fuel overall over the V-8 GT or $200.00 saved on each $1k fuel purchase.

That 20% is, in my book, a good return last time I checked.
Moreover, so much so that $2,000.00 compounded at 20% over 20yrs will yield U about $74,000.00. :drink:

And that’s no chunk change in my pocketbook. :wink2:

But that’s just me! :slap:

As for the so called noise I highly recommend watching the movie Bullitt, Starring Steve McQueen and listen to the noise of the infamous mustang and compare to the “noise” in the G8 V-6…U be the :judge:

That is of course assuming you’re lucky enough to own both the movie and the G8 V-6 in this day and age.

And it will go fast. :)

But NO...It won’t go as FAST as the V-8! :(

But after all these years, I still don’t compare apples to oranges.

But that’s jus me!

But some day I will have it all!

I feel it coming!

Cheers!

Yeah i really agree, the malibu is not all the pretty and lacks in styling. Granted that the G8 is not really american made, but hey I'm not complaing at all. Its about time America woke up and started seeing the light. America is tired of boring and ugly!

G8GT are really not getting 15mpg on city driving, all them G8 Gt owners state they are around the 10-13 range

REMEMBER, the g8 does not have EPA ratings only factory estimated....

I just found out the other day that the G8 V6 has 260 HP? Is it just me or is that pretty damn impressive?

I dont know what that translates into SOTP feel, and track times, but should be decent!!?
