waterboy_01_us 03-25-2008, 09:43 AM I orderd my G8 GT in January my dealer taged it in Feb. now I sit and wait. The Pontiac rep has no idea when my car will get here, they spend all this advertising money for a car you cant see, you cant test drive, and for all its worth they should ship the cars that are sold to the dealers first rather than to dealers who mark up msrp and sit on them. I dont get it????????????????????????????????????:eek2::eek2:

I put down $1,000 on my G8 GT in November 2007. My car was tagged on January 31, 2008. I do not have my car. The dealer does not have a precise date on when my car will arrive.
I sit. I wait. I go crazy reading accounts of G8 owners on this board currently enjoying their vehicles.

Believe it, it's true. I tried to get an 888 G8 GT in gray with the sport package, but it wasn't available. So the dealer on January 31 tagged a non-888 for me. However, I am still waiting for it. And again, no exact word on when it is arriving (although I did hear "end of March," which of course is fast approaching).
Anyone else with a similar experience?
Can't you file a law suit or something against them?
Attorneyguy 03-25-2008, 12:33 PM Can't you file a law suit or something against them?
I have no legal recourse against GM or any of its subsidiaries.
I can take my business elsewhere. However, that is not an attractive option. First, I am a Pontiac loyalist. The G8 will be my fourth Pontiac in a row. Second, I don't like spending $45,000+ on a BMW or Audi or Infiniti and get less of a value than I can get for the G8.
I think a lot of people on here can relate to that.

This is a reasonable statement of why I am so seriously considering a G8 GT.
Versus a BMW 335 or 535 or 550.

Expecting ( eventually ) better dealer treatment than you have received . . .
need4spd 03-25-2008, 01:22 PM I'm still waiting also, put my deposit down before the 888 tagging event.......at least I have a vin though, they should be able to give you this if it shipped, along with an ETA date. I still have a few weeks to go, but I could have had a 888 by now, but I wanted my color and options.
Cashed 03-25-2008, 01:30 PM The above stories are EXACTLY the reasons why I did not put money down on my G8. I shopped (online) 3 dealers near me. All 3 told me that the only way to "save" a G8 was to put down a deposit. Since my glass is always half empty, I said no and took my chances. One dealership sold their first G8 888, the next dealership was full of dumbasses, and the third never had anyone else call on theirs. The only person interested in that 888 was the invoice manager or whatever he is called, who ordered the car. This is one of the few good reasons I have to live in BFE...everyone out here drives a truck!(I used to be one of them!) :mullet:
Cashed 03-25-2008, 01:31 PM oh and I bought the above mentioned car the day it came in and have since put 1000 miles on it. Guys...IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!

Thanks for the info. I will ask the dealer to give me the VIN and an ETA date if possible.
Is it possible the G8 has not even been shipped from California notwithstanding the fact that the dealer tagged it back in January?

Is it possible the G8 has not even been shipped from California notwithstanding the fact that the dealer tagged it back in January? It is possible that it did not ship domestically yet, some of the cars available for tagging had target production dates through the end of March, it all depends on what one they tagged and what date it had based on what options you wanted and color. I hope this is not the case for you.

You're saying the dealer on January 31 (the first day of tagging) may have tagged a vehicle that hadn't even arrived in California yet? That would be bad news for me in terms of my wait. I could be waiting until May potentially?

call Premium Pontiac in New Rochelle, NY. It was there as of Saturday. Tell em RJ sent ya.
BlueGoat 03-25-2008, 05:25 PM I'm still unclear how the "tagging" works. Dealers are given a list of production cars from which to choose, at least for the '08s. But as I think I understand it, when the dealer "tags" a car, there is no build date or ship date, just the car specs. So one dealer may "tag" a car that is on the boat enroute to a U.S. port (San Diego?), while another dealer's "tagged" car may be still on Aussie soil or still on the "to be built" list? That would make sense because the only dates I know of are the dates that are posted when the car is invoiced to the dealer. There are many dealers who have "tagged" cars who have no invoices and no ship dates. So the real question is: are all cars listed for tagging already built, already enroute by boat, or just on the list to be built? In other words, it would seem that picking a vehicle to tag is a bit like roulette with the arrival date.
My dealer had no dates until he received an invoice dated 3-16 with an ETA estimated at 3-31. The invoices and serial numbers are sent out when the cars arrive in port and are off-loaded.

I don't know all of the answers to your questions, but there is a TPW (Target Production Week) listed on the cars when they tag them. Some of the TPWs listed go back to November. It is pretty obvious that if a dealer tags a car with a TPW in the future it is not built. In fact, most likely anything with a TPW after mid January 2008 is most likely just arriving in port or still on the boat. Looking just now at gminventory.com there were 08 GTs with a TPW of 4/14/08 which means the car isn't built and probably will not arrive until June/July timeframe. The tagging dealer should know the TPW.

Ryan M 03-25-2008, 06:19 PM I would love to have one of the 888 but I am going to wait till maybe 2010 to buy myself a new car and will see the options open then. If gas is still $4.00/gal I might consider the 2009+ Cobalt SS instead
BlueGoat 03-25-2008, 06:40 PM Thanks, didn't know about the TPW being on the tag list. I saw it very briefly on the computer screen but didn't look that closely.

I put money down on my car on February 2nd and was told it would be 8 - 12 weeks. They can not tell me when my car is coming in. We got a call on Saturday letting us know the dealer is getting on in but not mine. I went to another dealer and they wouldn't even let me test drive the car. How the heck are they going to sell the car if they put it in the showroom and don't let anyone test drive it???????
Ryan M 03-25-2008, 07:04 PM Its the GTO thing all over again.
And it does seem silly to me they are treating the $27-$30k Pontiac G8 as a 1.5 million dollar Bugatti Veyron.
But personally if I was going to buy a new car I would want less than 5 miles on it, knowing that it wasnt beaten on when it was brand new is a huge plus.

I thought the 09's were starting March 1st. How can they build a 08, unless I'm incorrect about the MY change.
I need my car by July, July 11th at the latest. I was hoping to get a 09, but now I'm totally confused with this stupid tagging process.

locrzng888 03-25-2008, 09:20 PM Hey, the dealer I picked mine up from received three last week. My red one, a white one and a dark grey. I paid full price, they wouldn't even come off a hundred. Oh well. Just find a dealer who has one and get your deposit back.

That was the rumor, but it seems to be incorrect. I am thinking end of April for the changeover. This would give three months to start getting the 09s here in August which is a little more traditional.

waterboy_01_us 03-27-2008, 08:50 PM Talked to pontiac area rep today that is so full of **** 1st he told me that my car that was tagged wasnt even portside yet, then it takes 6weeks to get here from austraila, 2 week to go through customs and then 3-6 weeks from cali to wisconsin.
Then I asked about ordering a 09 he told me you cant, you have to have dealer who has allocation to search the hundreds of pages tofind a vehicle with your choice of options then tag it and play the wait game.
A pontiac dealer 30 miles away recieved 1 v-6 and 2 loaded gts without any effort at all . I called them to see if they were still available they are ,but he wont honor GMS and there isa plant here ,so needless to say that will spred through the plant like wildfire , wat to screw your self in a gm town.
For anyone that cares you can lease a 350 AWD lexus now for 1 g down 425 month BMW 540 2g down 500 month screw gm The Toyota Buy-out is near remember you heard it here .............

don't forget that when you buy the vehicle new, your warranty starts when you purchase the car... so the car can have 200 miles on it and you'll end up getting a standard warranty from 200 miles-36,200 miles

Actually, the warranty is 36 month or 36,000 miles bumper to bumber and 60 months or 100,000 miles for the powertrain. Also, I may be wrong, but I believe if the car had 200 miles on it and it was sold as new, the warranty would be through 36,200 miles and 100,200 miles.

I don't think this is correct. That 36K miles is what you as the consumer are alloted during the warranty period. The purchase contract shows any miles on the odo at time of purchase, and frankly I'd be amazed if you were denied warranty coverage at, say, 36,124 miles if the odo showed 124 at purchase.

LoveMyGT 05-23-2008, 06:57 PM I bought my G8 GT last Tuesday. Liquid Red. I love her. I was trading in a 2002 Chevy Suburban that they gave me 11,000.00 for. The car was 33,000 and some change with the chrome wheels. I said hell, I don't need the wheels to be chrome ( I was just testing him:) He threw in the wheels for 600.00 and the car came to 29,000 then my gm card took 1,000, and the 1,000 GM rebate. Then the 11,000 for my Suburban. With tag, tax and title I walked out owing a little under 20,000. I took it for the 5.9% for 66 months. I feel we did good:)
LoveMyGT 05-23-2008, 07:07 PM Also, I don't know what kind of insurence you all have but I have Gieco. They have a 100,000 bumper to bumper or 7 years policy for ONLY a new car and that runs me 40.00 every 6 months (80.00 a year) I think it caps at 3 years so we are talking about 240.00, so I went that way.
