I went to a nearby dealer to check out the car. under closer inspection, the hood scoops looked as if they had a plastic parrt that could be removed by the owner to make them fucntional. anybody notice that???? especially people with the cars in their driveways.

I'd like to see a system made that used them too.:whine:

GTO scoops had the same baffles. I think most GTO owners determined it didn't make that much of a difference if you removed them or left them in. Removing them can pretty much guarantee you a dirty engine compartment.

Those scoops don't seem to be in a good place for performance. I am betting they are not in a high pressure area. They would actually need to be higher to be in the airflow.

Before you go poking holes in your hood, keep in mind that airflow is designed to move through the engine in a certain way, so the hood scoops are probably baffled to a certain degree for a reason if not purely cosmetic. Engine cooling is handles elsewhere, so its not like you're improving on GM's wind tunnel designs.

Not really. Dust can enter the engine compartment through other passages. I drive through torrential rain quite often, with the baffles out and my compartment is pretty clean.

Also having the baffles out helps cool the engine compartment better.

When you are stopped in traffic, the holes vent out hot air very well.

they do work to a certain degree because when i first got my g8 i drove through the rain and when i stopped at a red light there was steam coming through the hood scoops

yes, they certainly vent heat out...
