I just recently purchased the Borla Cat back exhaust and i called my dealer so they can install it for me but they are telling me they wont do it and that it will void my warranty.
The funny thing is they also told me that it wont void anything as long as it was a cat back; before i purchased it.
So now i am confused to what to do. I called GM and came to a agreement where i will bring in the parts to the service center and they will see what they can do for me and if i can keep my warranty.
Is there anything i can do to sway their mind in my point of view?
Does it really void you warranty or just on the item installed?
And if so only on the item installed whats the possibilities them accusing the after market exhaust for issue involving emissions and engine and so on?

The warranty will only be voided if any future issue you have with the car is caused by the cat back. The cat back itself will not void the factory warranty. And I echo BK89...pick another dealership.

Don't have a dealership install it. Take it to a muffler shop you trust or has a good reputation. My dealership would not install mine, but said no problem with warranty as long as issue is not directly related to catback.
btw.. do a search before asking questions... there's tons of threads on this.

Its a gray area.....it could void your warranty
Could the Cat back be responsible for higher performing engine that could break down faster and could the dealer void the warranty because of this.....yes
Most dealerships wont but sounds like you are dealing with a bunch of tools.
Remember GM is looking for ways to make money....voiding your warranty will make them money.

Before you tell him to search - this is a valid question. In another thread (Corsa thread I think) someone said in hindsight that they would have the dealership remove the O2 sensors because it can be trouble getting them out. If you screw them up - you pay. If the dealer screws them up removing them - it is covered under warranty.
Now my question is - if you have a muffler shop do the work because the dealer won't and the muffler shop screws up the O2 sensors, is it still covered under warranty? Or does it need to be a dealership? I was under the impression that you could take your car anywhere for service and the warranty will apply? Or will GM cop out and say it must have been something the shop did and you should have taken it to an approved dealership (or some other BS). If so, then yes just take it to a local muffler shop. If no, find a cool dealership that does not employee lazy jack asses that do not want your hard earned $$.

I told him to search because, yes it's a valid question, but it's been asked dozens of times. People keep asking the same question... will this void my warranty... will that...
The same set of answers, opinions, etc. will be offered. Until somebody offers up emperical proof... it's all opinion.
Unless a dealership specifically offers performance mods, and there are some, I would not even bother to ask.

pretty much if gm does not sell it the dealership usually wont install it, unless u know someone
so anything u do on ur own voids that part of ur warranty

i would never ask my dealership to install a mod. the less they know, the better. take it to a quality muffler shop and you will be very happy. it most likely will void any engine warranty, but if your power windows stop working the exhaust had nothing to do with it.
