: XM Options for the G8

Does anyone know truly what the XM status of the G8 GT radio is? The dealer salesman says it does not have XM. I called Pontiac's customer care to ask if they plan to offer it in the future or retrofit, and they took my VIN & said it did have XM or was Satellite-ready but at the same time she claimed she couldn't find a radio ID. XM has told me to get everything from that mini-tuner to some kind of head unit installed by the dealer to the XpressRC or Inno, which are the two I was originally looking at. Any comments/opinions you have are appreciated....:eek2:

Your car does not have XM. The 2009's will have it factory installed. That does not mean the radio is not XM ready or that it does not containa rear mounted jack to plug in an adapter. But someone will have to tear a dash apart just to find out. Finding a XM adapter for Blaupunkt brand radio is also extremely difficult if not impossible (I've looked, even on their Eueopean headquarters site)

Can't it be done through the aux jacks?

Some of them do say they connect through the Aux cable, but it seems like doing the FM Direct adapter produces better sound. Are you saying that the Blaupunkt radio won't allow this?

The fm modulate is never the way to go when you have a AUX direct connection. Take it from a gut that hs installed audio for over 10 years. the Aux will let you pipe the sound stright into the radio in its pure form, but you will still have to control the XM from a seperate tunner

I bought an Inno 2 and I really like it. I enjoy XM radio and that's the route I'm going.

I mean even though the 2008 model year might be lacking some options, any type of option is possible. I mean, look at some of those cars in the SEMA shows, you can pretty much do anything you want.....

Think Pontiac is trying to arrange special packages for G8 onwers to add XM units to their cars.

Not sure if this link will work: https://www.gmprograminfo.com/gmstatic/bpg/homepage/xm_hero_card.pdf

Can see some of the information at www.g8xm.com . Looks like a site run by the company handling the promotion.

That's not a deal. Find a friend who already has XM and just get added to their account. I have XM in my car right now and I added my GF for an additional $6.99/month. The XpressEZ radio was free. They come out with offers every quarter or so.

Don't those devices require a special antenna connection? Does anyone know if there is one already on our cars and if there is how to tap into it?

Yes they require a special antenna, which would hopefully be included for the price their charging.
