I notice the window stickers say "ASK DLR ABOUT TURN BY TURN NAV UPGRADE".

Does this mean the OnStar from the factory doesn't support turn by turn directions? Has anyone inquired how much the upgrade costs, if anything?

Or does this just mean they're including the Safe & Sound plan and you have to pay for the Directions & Connections upgrade (just money, not equipment).

The turn by turn is not included in the base package thats u get free for a year. However u do get 1 free turn by turn. I did not inquire on the price to add it to my plan. So no u do not need any equipment, u just have to pay extra for the service

Just requires the upgrade in the service plan.

Since Safe & Sound is included for the first year, it is just $100 more to upgrade to Directions & Connections.

After the first year it would be $299 ($199 Safe & Sound, $100 Directions & Connections) if one paid a year at a time.

Good to hear.

I was hoping it wasn't some weird tack-on equipment upgrade.

My thoughts went down that path because with the CTS, 2003-2007, turn by turn nav is simply not supported by that car's OnStar.

I keep my $100bux and use my GPS unit. Just like the phone minutes they try and sell you. The connection was HORRIBLE when I was trying to activate my system, keep having to repeat what I said three times, and every time the operator said something my response was, "Huh?"

Cell phones suck, but for $100bux a month, I'll keep my AT&T Family Plan.

Also in times of "need" you could activate the turn by turn for one month should you get lost and need help, the cost per month is $9.95 so if you forgot your GPS, you always can activate it for a month....

Also, there is 30 minutes free use of the onstar phone for the first 3 months, so in a jam you can use it, or you can "buy" minutes that are good for 1 year.

See the onstar web site for info.

The directions plan is pretty sick cause once you connect onstar about it, the directions come up on the display screen of the car.

You should be able to get them for 30 days for free. Just ask the onstar rep and they might have to transfer you to a few people. When its all said and done you supposed to get 30 days free. Its pretty cool too me. It does somethings that a hand held GPS cannot do. Like tell you when you are coming to confusing/complex intersections

I tried the one free trial of the onstar navigation. It sucks, I pushed the onstar button told the rep the address I wanted to goto and a minute later the nav starts. Its voice prompts are very annoying, its constantly interrupting the radio to remind you about a turn three or four times. I thought fine I'll deal with it, then when I was getting off the highway in Boston mass it failed horribly, it was confused on which road I was on and was telling me to turn on to a street while I had about a half a mile before the end of the ramp. When it realized I was off course it took almost a mile to figure that out and attempted to recalculate, still getting every turn wrong. I'm never going to use that service again. My $150 TomTom worked with no issued on the same route.
