Russo 03-27-2008, 11:49 PM i like it with the spoiler... i felt the same way about the Evo/STI spoilers...
LS2GTO 03-28-2008, 12:00 AM I can't say if it's looks bad or good its just different! Ummm on second thought it's just okay.
GigaHz 03-28-2008, 06:54 AM I like it. Is this a chop or were the holes filled and repainted?
Cashed 03-28-2008, 08:14 AM I prefer the "spoiler." is that thing on the back of our trunks even big enough to be called a "spoiler"????
G8>550i 03-28-2008, 10:04 AM Better with than without
I like it. Is this a chop or were the holes filled and repainted?
Neither. I picked the angle so you can't see the holes. There are 7 small holes along the spoiler.
I would prefer the Holden spoiler but that compared to the stock G8 i would say keep it on. That looks... wrong
LS2GTO 03-28-2008, 12:18 PM Hey everyone, lets try not start a flame war on dede spoiler delete.
Although the delete is not my taste or someone elses, give the guy credit for trying something different.
Thanks for sharing dede!
G8 Lover 03-28-2008, 12:39 PM I think it looks good. I wouldn't care if it was there or gone, not that big of a difference to me. I think it looks a little more Audi-like without though.
geegr8 03-29-2008, 10:45 PM I far prefer the car without the spoiler.
The new head of design at Cadillac, a man named Clay Dean, said recently that spoilers were the present day equivilent of whitewall tires and vinyl roofs.
AUSI-isf-KLR 03-30-2008, 04:12 AM The new head of design at Cadillac, a man named Clay Dean, said recently that spoilers were the present day equivilent of whitewall tires and vinyl roofs.
Thats ironic coming from the guy who helped design about the most retro vehicle in GM line up the HHR.
To answer the thread I think it looks better with the stock spoiler. That's comming from someone who deleted his gto spoiler.
Saki GT 03-30-2008, 12:47 PM Looks good. Spoilers are typically a sign of deficient design - something needed to tack on to a car because the design of the car itself is in need. Typically, the problem comes with high speed and reducing lift, which is why you see these small lips on so many cars. I like the unadulterated design of most cars, although there are only a few that look bad with lips and wings, and the G8 looks good either way.
Mr. Sandog 03-30-2008, 12:56 PM I like it both ways actually. Normally I hate spoilers (hardly anyone drives fast enough to need one), but the G8's is classy and understated.
Regarding 'deficient design' - I agree with you but more along the lines of when the exterior of the car is deficient, it needs the spoiler to distract you from how hideous the car is (e.g. Mitsu EVO).
gbcop 03-30-2008, 01:20 PM Just like the Dodge Charger's to me. They don't look bad without it, but they look tougher with it.
yevot 03-30-2008, 03:27 PM I like the spoiler delete but not enough that I'd do it myself (and therefore have to deal with the holes). I'd prefer a relatively short wing though, enough to get a bit of downforce and let people know you have the goods...

...but not so much that it obstructs your rear-view and looks like you designed your car in Need For Speed Underground.

I would agree but I'm curious as to how much downforce 82mph would get you.. and if that added traction would ever be practically useful on the interstate.
They don't look bad without it, but they look tougher with it.
I agree with the second part, anyway. :eek2:
but yeah, looks tougher whether it's useful or not.
My dad's '04 Camry has a spoiler and I don't think it's ever used much but man, I think the Camrys look ugly if they don't have one. It completes the trunk/rear.
sccaGTO 03-30-2008, 10:33 PM Neither. I picked the angle so you can't see the holes. There are 7 small holes along the spoiler.
I see the holes. :D At least you don't have to worry with the 3rd brake light in the G8 spoiler.
HSV GTS 03-31-2008, 05:24 AM i like it with the spoiler... i felt the same way about the Evo/STI spoilers...
There are 4 options of spoilers in Down under for the Commodore VE sedan (G8): (1) SS = large high spoiler (2) SV6 = mid size high spoiler which is similar to SS but just smaller (3) = Calais V (G8 GT) lip spoiler (4) HSV GTS = super large high spoiler.
All of the high spoilers dont really block much of your rear vision, but gives the vehicle a more agressive stance, IMO the SV6 which is 1" shorter than the SS is the best choice.
Just add JHP Tein suspension and larger wheels !

Is that why every new Caddy has a spoiler designed into its truck lid? One that cannot be modificed or removed? Tell Cadillac to get rid of that huge ugly brake light they put in the center of every car. It wrecked the vertical flow of Cadillac lines
HSV GTS 04-25-2008, 07:36 AM I prefer the "spoiler." is that thing on the back of our trunks even big enough to be called a "spoiler"????
if you dont want to deal with the stock G8 spoiler holes, there is the GM HSV Senator spoiler

V8Mac 04-25-2008, 08:14 AM Looks good without it, but I prefer the subtle G8 lip.
Fifteen years ago I would have gone for the big HSV wing!

Is this spoiler the same price as the other?
Ajava 05-18-2008, 07:18 PM Here are some classy spoilers that some should consider.:drink:

Now that's what I'm talkin' about.
Slizzo 05-18-2008, 08:50 PM Don't know why you posted the second pic as if it were a ricer spoiler as that's the stock wing that was on all Dodge Daytonas.... I think it looks good, as it's a classic... :damnyou:
Heli411 05-18-2008, 09:06 PM I wonder what would have to be done to remove the stock spoiler and replace it with the SV6. I guess that's what body shops are for.
Rob Moser 05-18-2008, 09:28 PM So...So... ??????
Used to like spoilers but got rid of the one on my YELLOW GTO-(04'M6-9100mi). Makes that car ASS HAPPY!!! On my White GT, I like the spoiler. Might not have added it if it cost extra, but since it's there, and I assume it would cost $200-$300. to fill the holes, WHY???WHY???WHY??? Buy a CAI or ECM!

Batman 05-18-2008, 11:43 PM Thoughts on the subject:
1. Looks a bit "softer"
2. Doesn't look BAD
3. Would I do it? No, but because like someone said it came with the car, not a HUGE spoiler like say the stock neons or evos, and the work to remove the holes would be trouble.
4. I dunno if anyone else has noticed, but when hand washing my loverly G8GT I sometimes find water pooling on the trunk lid, and I assume that spoiler deletion would stop that happening and allow the water to roll right off. Not a big deal, but would certainly be a small comfort.
5. Looks good man, make sure and keep us updated and let us know how it works out/how you end up fixing the hole problem
glugo1001 05-21-2008, 03:02 PM Not bad. Actually, it's what I thought the V6's were going to look like: no spoiler, red tails, no hood scoops, and possibly less aggressive front/rear fascias.
