I am thinking about getting a GTO now and then get the G8 in two or three years. What should I know and look for when looking at used 05-06 GTOs? Also what are some price ranges for one with under 20K miles?

Good luck with that. The lounge is a perfect place to increase you post count. (by the way, lounge post do not count toward your post count)

- Get an 06 with 18" wheels (check the build date for strut failure, and if it was fixed)
- Plan upgrading your suspension to pedders (start with street II, then work your way up)
- Plan you performance upgrades (hundreds of avenues you can take)
- Then, if you'd like, take a look at the various appearance options available. searching through the aussie versions of gto will get you some good ideas.

The worst part of owning a GTO is trying to get that SEG off your face. Impossible! :D

GTO's are excellent cars. The interior and ride quality is also excellent. And you can't go wrong with the LS2. Also the aftermarket is currently going pretty strong for the GTO (headers, cam packages, superchargers, etc)

When the LS2 GTO first came out it had a reputation for not running as fast as GM advertised. With the 06 GTO, I think GM may have made some adjustments to the tuning ,because many of the 06s are running strong. Plenty of average Joes are running 13.2s - 13.3s in bone stock GTOs.

The G8 will also be an excellent car with high quality, but it will be a step down in performance (stock vs stock) compared to the LS2 GTO.

The G8 should run high 13s on average compared to the low 13s for the LS2 GTO.

Got a 2005 GTO in May of 2005 and have had no issues. Outstanding build quality and the car pounds the ground, humiliating just about every Mustang I've come across. The most priceless face I've seen was the groover in a Dodge Magnum R/T that saw me laughing at him as I left him in the dust. This was after he had pulled up to me at a light and revved his rather lame "hemi" at me. I suspect he doesn't do that to GTO's anymore!

Never once have I regretted getting this GTO. It's been everything I missed after selling my 1996 Camaro SS and much better build quality/comfort. I won't ever have to worry about buying another GTO becuase I'm never letting this one go!
