Today I got my license plates and the technician at the dealership wanted to put the front license plate on, but GM forgot to make a bracket to mount the plate on. So the only way these guys could put that plate on is to drill holes on the front bumper!!! I told the guy.. Oh hell no!! not on my front bumper!! So now I have to find some type of bracket to bolt to the honeycomb grill at the bottom of the spoiler. I wish GM would have made a bracket like their Solstice.

Sounds like dealer error to me. My GTO came with a bracket in the trunk for a front plate. Luckily, here in PA, we don't have to have one.

It came with the bracket, but no holes to bolt the bracket to??? You have to drill holes through the bumper!

We've seen front license plate brackets on the G8 and I'm pretty sure they were designed by GM. Your dealer must've forgotten to order it or the plant forgot to send it with your G8 (could be mistaken as to which areas are required to have front brackets).

oh, well, in that case, great! It saves random holes from being drilled onto the cars that don't require front plates! :eek2:

I think that's common now. Even the big Caddi DTS had a bracket, and you had to drill holes.

Texas requires a front license plate.

My GTO was driven for 2 years without a front license plate, nobody ever pulled me over for not having it.

I'm in Texas also... I hope to have that same luck.

The dealership is supposed to drill the holes in the front bumper and attach the bracket. This way, cars in the states that don't require a front license plate, won't have a bracket on the front or worse, holes in the bumper. Just drive around without the front plate and if you get pulled over too much for it, put the bracket and plate on..

This is common. My G6 has no front bumper bracket, however if you look, there are two dimples where the holes are to be drilled for front bracket installment. In the event that you move out of the state and front plates are not needed the holes can be filled. This is typical. Not all states require front plates; so they don't put the obvious locations anymore. They just mark it very subtly and leave it for the dealer.

GM makes a bracket that does drill into the front bumper... Hard to see in my picture, but when I found my car it was already done...

Subaru did not even have a bracket for the Forester till 2007. Before then you just screwed the plate right to the bumper. On a $25k car --Sucked!

I used to live in Texas and got away with putting it on my front dash with some double stick tape to the windshield. I didn't want it on my Camaro. Never got pulled.
