: Recall and ECM tune?
r1owner 05-27-2009, 08:44 PM It appears the TPMS recall will require reprogramming of the ECM. How will this effect those of us with a tune?
Will the dealer be able to overwrite the stock files if I put them back in before I go in to get the recall done?
If so, once they do that, how do I get my VMS tune back on there with the GM updates?
roSSco 05-27-2009, 08:58 PM I seem to recall VMS stating they would provide future updates. I read that to mean that if an update came out that was needed they would send an updates file.
Disclaimer: I may have no idea what I am babbling about.
roSSco 05-27-2009, 08:59 PM Do you have any info. on the recall?

SO VMS would reprogram the TPMS and brake light issue with an update rather than going to the dealer?

Where do you see this?
As of today the ECM calibration on GM's website is the same as always.
keglo69 06-03-2009, 04:34 PM Just had my recall completed, and they went in and "reached around" and nothing. I went to another Pontiac-Chevy-Old Coot Car Dealer who was happy to accommodate. Funny I pulled up and a guy in a nice shirt and tie comes out, likes my car all over and puts in the seat cover, mat and wheel wrap and drives off. He was was the Service Manager, the Service Writers were velcroed to their bar stools. Real nice guy and liked my upgrades, discussed warranty issues with them and he had none. Young mechanic made a positive notation on my invoice. I found a better dealer, they are out there, and like a marriage there is "re-bar" showing at times in the highway of bliss. Funny thing my totally re flashed computer/car performance characteristics has not indicated that the 93 octane tune is any wonder performance upgrade. My trip from the dealer-highway and city did not indicate my stock tune outshone my Cortex 93 tune??? Any thoughts? Thanks
DRCUSTOMPARTS 06-03-2009, 04:56 PM The recall is for a TMPS and brake light issue, it has nothing to with making your car perform better. I hope you flashed it back to stock with the Superchips tuner BEFORE you took it in, otherwise you won't be able to load the Superchips tune back in your car.

Ah... bad assumption on my part then... my apologies.
Jaysin 06-06-2009, 07:56 PM Took mine do the dealer yesterday and had the recall work performed. Not a big deal, just uploaded the stock tune and took her in.
speeder 06-07-2009, 02:16 PM Are buyers receiving the Recall Notice from Pontiac? This forum is the only place I've seen anything about a recall. There is no mention of it on my Pontiac Owner Center either. Seeing the size of the recall, I can't imagine many G8's will be exempt.
keglo69 06-07-2009, 02:38 PM In fact when you have the occasion to talk to On-Star they ship you over to Pontiac and while on with the Pontiac C/S they tell you about the recalls. Nice touch and I felt like I was flying First Class and the cabin attendant came by with drinks, and not the crappy soda, juice, water. Yup I have the Stock Tune in the can and went back to 93, and with the updates seems to be a raging bull dressed as a sedan.
DRCUSTOMPARTS 06-07-2009, 02:40 PM I'm not having a problem with the TPMS or the brake light, so unless they send me a notice or say something about it if I have my car at the dealer, I'm not too concerned about the recall.
Silver G8 GT 06-08-2009, 08:47 AM The update does not affect the part of the ECM that SC modifies. I had the recall done and I got my Cortex out to download the updated stock file and it wouldn't do it. This means the info that SC access is not affected by the recalls.
Zodiac 06-08-2009, 05:37 PM I got my recall letter in the mail just to let you know. Received it today although my recalls were performed on 6/1.
speeder 06-08-2009, 06:07 PM Just got mine in the mail today.
DRCUSTOMPARTS 06-08-2009, 06:30 PM I got mine today too, but a guy with a GXP has a check engine light after they did the TMPS recall, so I'm waiting to see if anyone else has that issue before I take mine in.
Norm8332 06-08-2009, 06:56 PM I'm not taking mine in, I'll have to find another way if I have a problem..
