"The G8 will meet the growing demand for rear-drive cars"

...because big power and FWD have shown they do not go well together.

I'm falling in love with this car. I will own one.

Congrats GM, you pulled an import buyer over finally.

30,000 interesting. So figure a low % of V8 version and you have yourself a Dealer Gouging Festival!

OH I hope not... For the love of the GM game I hope not!

Let's see now. You're an auto manufacturer. You hope to make money selling cars, preferably as close to MSRP as possible. You're selling in the US, where V8s are king (look at the success of the Hemi).

You'll bring over a majority of V6s. NOT! You'll bring over as many of the higher-priced V8s as the market will bear.

Better re-look at those hemi numbers vs v6

There will be gouging in the first few months. Just hang in there. They will go to MSRP and then to Invoice.

Anyone know the production % splits of the Charger/300/Magnum V6 vs. V8?

Could we expect a similar split with the G8?

30,000 G8's could mean 20,000 V6's and 10,000 V8's. GTO averaged about 12 to 14 K sales per year. I think it's fair to assume that the G8 will have a broader appeal than the GTO. If that's the case 10K G8 GT's will go like hotcakes. a 50/50 split of 15K 6's and 15K 8's would be more on target. I wonder how many Oz can crank out maximum per year.

I'm waiting until the 2nd year to buy one. Don't want to deal with gouging and I want to know what the GXP will offer before I decide.

I'm glad they are trying to match the Charger for price because the V8 right now (with rebate mind you) is going for 27K at carsdirect.com, or about 29K with taxes and stuff.

COME ON GM, don't go nuts on the price because we all agree this thing will be a WINNER!

75% V6 and 25% V8 sounds right to me.

The deal will be on the V6 since they'll have more on the lots.......

Since the GP will be around during the first year or so, bring over more V8s during the freshman year. For year 2 bring in more V6s.

jizz,

Per Ward's 2006 engine installation data through March, 2006:

Chrysler 300 5.7L Hemi 34.7%
Chrysler 300 6.1L Hemi 3.8
Total V8s 38.5%

Dodge Charger 5.7L Hemi 46.6%
Dodge Charger 6.1L Hemi 2.8
Total V8s 49.7%

This after roughly 3 years on these models. Hemi penetrations were much higher than this initially. Also note what happens when the price is over $40k (SRT-8s) - not many cars are sold, despite the added power and other features.

^also, they would sell more if they allowed you to do it yourself (stick shift) instead of FORCING you into a dang auto.

That, because I like the look of the Charger (without the rear tail) is what kills the deal to me with them.

I will wait for the GXP - I'd rather have the larger engine and it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy in the second year.

+1 - Not necessarily worried about the gouging, but want to wait and see what the GXP brings.
