You are right. At idle it sounds poppy because, I think, as someone on here once explained to me since the center dual muffler allowed both left & right cylinder banks to mix to some degree, like an H or X pipe, you are hearing both L & R banks firing separately so there is no detonation overlap.

Personally, I like it. To me, it sounds nasty at idle. Sounds good at higher revs, but no drone or interior noise at all.

H-Pipes help to produce a deeper more muscular rumble sound while X-pipes are slightly higher pitched exotic roar. Each type has a very strong following and it is totally a matter of personal preference.

The above is for the GTO resonator which is made by Walker (parent company of Dynomax) which also make the G8 exhaust. Once I get a G8 resonator in hand, i'll be cutting it open as well.

That's right Mr. Fox......You were the one who explained that to me a few weeks ago.

Yikes, I do NOT like that sound. Makes it seem as if something's about to explode.. or at least fall off. :eek2:

Second that... I believe I'll be waiting till I get my H-Pipe from S.F. before I remove the resonators...

Tell the guy with the Harley to turn that bike off. :p That sound doesn't appeal to me. But, I do give you an "A" for experimenting. At least your test will allow others to hear what a potential mod would sound like before they do it. Oddly enough, after I had the resonator removed from my GTO, it didn't change the sounds that much. :sneaky:

and we were expressing ours to give you some feedback. It's much less embarrassing to have a bunch of no-name, no-face people that "you don't even know" tell you that they don't like it than rolling up to some real, actual acquaintances and being received with something along the lines of, "Oh, shoot... yeah man, I don't know what that could be, but I'd take it to the dealer and try to get it fixed". I don't mean any offense but that's honestly the kind of thing I'd say if someone's car sounded like that around me.

and pick up two mufflers up for around 100 bucks...

I duno if youve had muscle cars before..but there are sooooo many different ways to make your car sound..its crazy ...ill post alil video of mine..i went safe and only replaced the rears...but the sound is a deeper ..consitant ..."clean" sound..some like it..some dont...I only did a cell phone video ...tommorow i will get someone to hold it while i rev it....soo it will give you all a better idea of just what old school flowmasters sound like on it....

Penguin, that sounds really good when the revs are up, and the popping on deceleration sounds OK, too.

I can't help but think that the odd, discordant-souding popping at idle sounds better in person than on the video. I'll bet the microphone in that video cam is losing a lot of the low frequencies.

The important thing is that you like it!

The Viper has that issue, no mix of sounds from half the engine. A couple years they did pipes out the back insted of the sides with an H pipe I believe.

Thanks JAWDRPNG8, The only other "muscle car" (???) car I've owned was a '65 GTO back in 1966 but I modded the exhaust on that with a system off of a Fiat 600. It was HOT! :p
