Would locking lugs prevent that?

Yes, it will for the basic moron who just wants a set of nice wheels.. But if you have the proper tools, you can break off the lugs and still get the wheels.

I know, because a buddy of mine lost his key to his lug, and pepboys had a tool to break the lug off.

PS- that sucks for that owner.. Do I have locking lugs? I don't know. Do they come standard, or do I need to buy them for extra?

No locking lugs, you have to buy them.

My son lost all four wheels and tires on his Mustang GT while protected by wheel locks. Slows down the scumbags by about 40 seconds. I told him to move to a better neighborhood.

I have a guy at the lil shop next to my dealership that now has 30s on his H2. He used to have 28s on it. With three different style wheel locks on each wheel.... Those 28s were stolen in downtown LA. All the lugs were left laying next to the rotors. sorta like that poor camaro pix.

Similar thing has been happening around me lately. Someone has been targeting cars for specific car parts. In one case, the thieves busted into a couple cars in a gated community and the cars were in a parking garage. They stole steering wheels, side mirrors, etc...

Well, right before I got my G8, I went to go jump in my Explorer and the parking space had a Tahoe liberated of its wheels and sitting up on blocks. A couple days later, I saw a guy looking at his car and the drivers side headlight had been pulled/yanked out of his car.

Sadly it is the owners fault in this situation, he left the car unlocked. Had the car been locked the factory alarm system might of have went off and scared the theives out of the area.

Pretty obvious it sounds silly to say it's the owner's fault :slap:
That's like saying it's his fault for driving a nice car...still sad to see a new Camaro like that.

I don't know if owner had locked his doors theft could've been prevented, but owner had a modicum of responsibility by making it convenient for thieves.

I can empathize with owner. Years ago I had some nice tools, a 2 ton floor jack and jack stands stolen because my neighbor forgot to lock the garage door on his carport one night. I'm still suspicious about that one.

i dont think it makes a difference if the car is locked or not the wheels are not hooked up to the alarm

True but the jacking thecar up and or harsh movements might of have set off the impact sensor.

...and that's why our cars don't come with a jack! lol

OEM alarms SUCK. My CX9 was locked and asshats broke the window and looted it and it didn't make a peep.

Then the K9 unit got them. :-)

My LS1 Fbody had a factory alarm that would go off if the doors or trunk were opened or if the car moved at all. Pretty decent setup for factory i thought.

To the original post, how would you go about picking the car up off the ground to put wheels back on? What would the lifting points be???

Good point! But to go even further, How did they get the jack out from under the car in order to set it down on the ground like that? :dunno:

I'm sure they didn't gently set her down. Probably, just yanked real hard on the jack and dropped the car where it sat.

If they want your wheels, a locking nut will only slow them down.

locking lugs are easly taken off with a reverse thread lock removal tool and air gun. actually i think the car looks better with no wheels on it. but i feel bad for the guy, cause its probably all scratched up on the bottom and sides

What shame!!! Dirty scum bags. If I ever was walking up to my car and saw someone trying to steal something from it or do something to it, the back of my mind I would say jail is worth it!!!!

I work at Midas and we have a kit to remove locking lug nuts incase the customer lost it, or doesn't know if they ever got a key for it.

Basic tools:

It was a 1LT with 18" wheels - the base wheels for the 2010 Camaro. Trust me, the thieves will have a VERY hard time selling those wheels. They are butt ugly!
