Does anyone know if the roof rack is an available accessory yet? If so, is there any useful hardware available for it, or just cross bars? I intend to put two bikes on the roof in the warm weather and a snowboard and skis in the winter. That's actually one of the primary reasons that I'm so anxious to get rid of my Trans Am. Even though I can fit a lot of stuff in the hatchback, it's just not very useful for my hobbies (besides the fast driving hobby :gears:).

I'm really interested in a Yakima roof rack setup, but they don't have anything ready for the G8 yet. I'm hoping that since there is (supposedly) a factory rack available, that means the folks at Yakima should have no problem coming up with rack systems to work with this car. If anyone has knowledge on this topic I would love to hear it.

In the black separator channel on each side of the top are two plugs that are apparently where the G8 roof rack mounts. They are almost not noticeable unless you are looking for them.

Hey, thanks! Looks like GM is only offering the crossbars, for now at least. I'll have to see if anyone makes attachments that would fit on those to accomodate the bikes/snowboard/skis. Or wait for a complete rack system from Yakima or some other company. I wonder if the Aussies have something like that already?

Holden make a ski carrier (p/n 92166679), a bike carrier (p/n 92199529) and a roof mounted enclosed pod (p/n 92177448). All three mount on the roof rack shown in the link of Pontiacs accessories.

Excellent. I like the scissor style ski carrier. I'm not a huge fan of the bike carrier, though, as it requires the front wheel to remain attached. I prefer the kind in which the front wheel is removed and the front fork bolts to the rack. Thanks for the informationt, though. It's interesting to see how many accessories are available for the Commodore on the Holden website, as compared to what's available for the pontiac right now. I hope they bring more of those accessories over here.

do we know if we'll be able to buy any of the Holden accessories for the luggage rack?
I am looking for a snowboard attachment and bike attachment.

Sure. JHP-Monaro promotes itself as a direct importer of genuine Holden parts and accessories. There are others, as well.

See my experience here.

I haven't taken it to the dealer for their attempt to make them fit, but I think I will.

And I bought the bike rack (remove the front rim) from Rocky Mountain Racks, I think. Reasonable price and good delivery time.

I posted a response - I had no issues installing my factory load bars.
None of these so-called "typical GM experiences."

The load bars are the same as the Australian market items, so no reason they won't fit.
Follow the instructions - that is what I did.

I'm considering buying the bike and snowboard attachments from JHP, but the price is insanely expensive. Particularly for the bike attachment: $467 each! So, in order to get the factory rack from Pontiac and two bike attachments from JHP it's going to cost me over $1000? That's nuts. Why won't GM just bring these attachments over as Pontiac parts and sell them at reasonable prices? What's the point of selling a factory roof rack without these attachments available?

If you buy the bike and/or snowboard attachments from JHP I would love to know how they work out for you as I am also interested in these.

Bike part? You can get a roof rack from the dealer (online dealer would be much cheaper, FYI) or the Rhino racks (4 different styles and I ready somewhere they make the dealer racks anyway).

Then on those crossbars you can mount any bike racks you want for the type of bars you ordered (round or square, and some bike racks go on either).\

For example:

Here are the rhino styled angled bars on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Rhino-Rack-Black-Sportz-Pontiac/dp/B0037ODVGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333401815&sr=8-1

Here are the ones that look OEM and are wider:
http://www.amazon.com/Rhino-Rack-Silver-Aero-Pontiac/dp/B0037OC36A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1333401815&sr=8-2

And then you can mount anything that attached to oval bars:

kyack rack:
http://www.amazon.com/Thule-835XTR-Hullaport-Rooftop-Carrier/dp/B00152SA22/ref=sr_1_4?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1333401998&sr=1-4
or
http://www.amazon.com/Univerisal-Roof-Kayak-Canoe-Carrier/dp/B003V57NUQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1333401998&sr=1-1

bike rack:
http://www.amazon.com/Yakima-HighRoller-Rooftop-Upright-Bike/dp/B000Q5K0L8/ref=sr_1_4?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1333402013&sr=1-4
or
http://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Upright-Mounted-Bicycle-Carrier/dp/B003WHT9BO/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1333402013&sr=1-1

etc....

Once you have the crossbars mounted on the roof, you can put any attachment you want on it. Even a big storage box or ski or snowboard racks, etc.
