GigaHz 04-04-2008, 03:29 PM The tune comes with the intake?
GigaHz 04-04-2008, 03:31 PM Does the intake come with a tune?
SOcaliG8 04-04-2008, 03:32 PM :worthless:
besides the dyno....
dodson914 04-04-2008, 03:33 PM Are these #'s an increase somewhere in the powerband or overall?
GigaHz 04-04-2008, 03:33 PM Check out graph.
dodson914 04-04-2008, 03:36 PM Check out graph.
LOL it's been a long day. ;)
Mike @ New Era 04-04-2008, 03:49 PM We don't do mail order tunes , sorry , just custom tunes in house on the dyno .
J Wikoff 04-04-2008, 03:53 PM I assume you tuned for premium...?
Mike @ New Era 04-04-2008, 03:55 PM Yes , that is correct .
4gasem 04-04-2008, 05:15 PM Those are amazing numbers...
OK so this is an otherwise stock car right? No exhaust mods? IE: Headers, hi flow cats, 3" exhaust...
Do you have any idea on what this might cost us or is it too early to tell?
The A/F ratio to be spot on... Is that what I'm seeing? A couple are a bit rich. Which ones are those? I would imagine the ones with the stock air box.
rushhour 04-04-2008, 05:20 PM Great job Mike - I guess I know where a few of my pesos are going.
Steve
Russo 04-04-2008, 05:32 PM good numbers
xp3nd4bl3 04-04-2008, 05:33 PM How about some pics of the intake!!
Mike @ New Era 04-04-2008, 05:34 PM Yes , the car is completely stock otherwise . The G8GT runs pretty rich stock , and with the intake on as well , I leaned it out when I tuned it which is the tuned run in the graph .
SOcaliG8 04-04-2008, 07:15 PM hey mike do you have any pics of the intake?
just wanna idea of how it looks like....
thanks
Mike @ New Era 04-04-2008, 09:11 PM I will have pics up as soon as I get a chance , just took some today .
888GT#31 04-05-2008, 01:23 AM Nice job Mike! :)

The silicone components are high temp 4 ply construction , and the tubes are t304 stainless steel bends that are powdercoated black chrome to give it a nice unique look and is also scratch resistant so that they look good for a long time (unlike polished aluminum) , and all the clamps are t304 stainless liner clamps so that the silicone doesn't poke through the slots in the clamp . This kit also uses a 9 inch k&n air filter . I didn't see any need to use a heat shield due to the tucked away location of the air filter , it would be a waste of time and money to gain nothing . Retail price will be $259.95 , we will be doing an introductory sale at $239.95 from now until this Friday .
You can now order them online at www.neweraperformanceparts.com .
Thanks ,
Mike

WANT!:yumyum:
Ordering tomorrow. How long does it take to go from Rochester to Clarks Summit, Pa.? ;)
Mike @ New Era 04-05-2008, 07:28 PM 2-3 days .
4gasem 04-05-2008, 07:34 PM 2-3 days .
Hey Mike,
It states "it uses and K&N filter" Does that mean it comes with one too?
If so I am ready to buy...
G8 Ray 04-05-2008, 09:21 PM I think I'll be on this too.
Mike @ New Era 04-05-2008, 10:14 PM Yes , it does come with it , we use K&N with all of the induction systems we do , and all of our kits come with a lifetime warranty of course .
GeoffA 04-05-2008, 11:01 PM
I was so happy when I clicked on your link and saw that your out of Rochester NY. A local tuner. Now all you have to work on is a super charger for this car and when I buy one later this summer I'll be breaking in the engine on the way to your shop.
4gasem 04-05-2008, 11:02 PM Yeah I ordered it and found a local shop that has the software to tune the car and they are charging $375.00 to do it. Didn't seem too bad as it's custom for the car and I will have all the additions on it straight away so I can do it once and be done...
Yeah right...
You show it without the engine cover on it, but I assume by looking at it that the cover will fit right?
jkgmh 04-06-2008, 06:32 AM Geez the engine bay looks ugly with the radiator cover left off. They did that in 2007 models here in Oz. My car has it from factory being a 2006 model.
When I put the Cold Air Intake on the car, we made up a CAI cover which suited the CAI curvature and mounted to the radiator cover. The pic below shows the setup in my mates HSV R8, but mine in my SSV looks the same...you don't look down the gaping hole left by the factory airbox and see all the hoses etc...

Mike @ New Era 04-06-2008, 09:30 AM The engine cover fits , but I think it looks better off , plus it is heavy and retains heat so it is better staying off for me .

:iagree:
Ausstar 04-06-2008, 04:05 PM thats looks good mate.
Im in. How long for shipping??
And also could you give us any help that we can pass on to our local shops that will tune the car after CAI install??? Will an HP Tune be sufficient??
Cheers
Caerwyn
vhato 04-06-2008, 07:46 PM Ordered. I can't wait!!!!
2010G8GXP 04-07-2008, 08:54 AM does this kit utilize the stock air box or does it actually go into the fender well?
4gasem 04-07-2008, 03:16 PM does this kit utilize the stock air box or does it actually go into the fender well?
If you look at the pics you can see that it goes in the place that the stock airbox was located. It's facing down towards the front of the car.
Looks like a pretty nice kit. I am going to look to see if I can direct some cold air up there with another tube.
Mike @ New Era 04-07-2008, 10:14 PM It goes into the fender well , gets rid of the stock airbox .
SOcaliG8 04-07-2008, 10:45 PM any chance of you guys developing a OTR (over the radiator) intake?
I ask you cause the guys over at Australia are getting GREAT results...
Thanks
Mike @ New Era 04-07-2008, 11:35 PM I would love to test one of their intakes if they would like to send me one .
locrzng888 04-08-2008, 03:13 PM Mike, does the car have to have a tune to run the intake, no codes hit the dash, etc. Some of us don't have a place to get it tuned, but, would love to have the intake. Its definetly going to make a bunch of noise. I like it without the cover, I'm going to order some smooth fuel rail covers from street and performance. I love the way the intake looks, Just need to cover the coils.

dodson914 04-08-2008, 03:16 PM Are they ready to ship now? If not, any idea of when they will be ready to ship?

Never mind. LOL
SRG963 04-08-2008, 05:53 PM It goes into the fender well , gets rid of the stock airbox .
Thanks for answering everyones questions Mike, I have another one for you. Sorry if someone else has asked....Will this fit on the 09 G8 GT....I placed my order today!
Thanks
Mike @ New Era 04-08-2008, 10:16 PM I would imagine it would fit the 09 , but obviously I can not know for sure until it is released . All order placed by Sunday night have now shipped out , didn't realize we would run out this fast ! More tubes are being delivered to the powder coater tomorrow and hopefully we can be caught up within less than a week .
You do NOT need a tune to run this intake and make more horsepower (you won't get any codes or anything along that line either) , but , a custom tune will increase your horsepower by quite a bit to go along with this .
4gasem 04-08-2008, 10:42 PM I would imagine it would fit the 09 , but obviously I can not know for sure until it is released.
I hope so because I bought it for my '09...
locrzng888 04-10-2008, 09:38 PM Hey Mike, there is a tube sticking out of the stock intake, close to the throttle body, a tube with a little clamp connects to that tube coming out of the intake box. What is that and does your intake have provisions for that connection?
thanks

I got mine yesterday! WOW! Fast as schitt!
It looks like there is a hole in the 90º tube coming out of the T/B and a black hard plastic tube too.
No directions??? Must be self explanatory huh?
Solrac 04-11-2008, 01:00 AM Mike can i use this on the v6 ly7 engine?
vhato 04-11-2008, 05:23 PM I installed it. Fairly simple and the design is very basic. It looks better in pictures IMO. The engine had a sophisticated appearance stock, now it looks like a 16 year old had fun with dads Lowes card on moms G8 GT.
Quiet while cruising, LOUD as hell at Wide Open throttle, yet nice and cool at part throttle. I dunno.......it lacks sophistication, I dunno if I will keep it or not. My butt-o-meter cannot tell if I gained any power at all. I would rather something like a UPD Intake. If they are still around.
....and my dyno day was shot too because either the tuner was afraid to tune my car, or wanted to leave early on friday and wasted my ENTIRE Friday stalling me. I gave him plenty of time to say, we ain't tuning today, from 9:30am-, but at 3:00pm he pulled my data and said peace. I think I won't go back.

He probably realized he didn't have the right program, sucks he left you waiting. You can order a ECM from Vector, they are running a sale I believe.
4gasem 04-11-2008, 07:12 PM It's an Cold Air Intake. It's supposed to look a little raw and tuner like. :err:
At least all the ones I have bought have.
The powder coating is top notch and all the parts are as stated.

I know your right, I just would like something that doesn't look like it should be on a teenagers Honda Civic. New Era hasn't misled me at all. I saw the install, jumped on the purchase then realized, it isn't for me.
For my money I would rather own the one "jkgmh" posted. More metal tube, less rubber hose. The New Era is more Rubber hose, less metal tube. Not their fault. I think I will sell it here for $149.00.
My first test doesn't show a difference through the Mass-Air Flow meter either. Maybe small increases in Grams makes a huge difference in power. The stock intake may look bad for power, but I think all the crap is there to reduce sound as it doesn't get in the way of air-flow. The stock intake pulls air from an open space in the bumper below the headlight. As air moves in through the signature Pontiac nostrils some air is pulled to the airbox.
Mike @ New Era 04-12-2008, 12:26 PM Can't please everyone I guess , you are entitled to your opinion , if you don't like the way it looks then you don't like the way it looks . As for the Mass-Air Flow meter not showing much of a difference , it's not supposed to , when I had 4 inches of straight tubing in front of the MAF and when putting a filter right on the MAF , the car ran so rich it didn't make any more power because the MAF was reading more increase in airflow and it would also pull timing when this happened , when putting a bend right before the MAF in the right location , it read less air and made more hp because the higher velocity point is on the inner radius of the bend allowing some unmetered air past the MAF which didn't richen up the AFR so much so it would make more power on the stock tune . It's kind of tough to feel 10 hp in a 4000 lb car though .

No doubt! You add that to a bike and you feel it, but a 4000 lb car makes it hard for the butt dyno to pick it up.
vhato 04-12-2008, 06:29 PM Thanks for the info Mike. For what it is worth, the NEP Intake is still on the car. I will leave it until the rescheduled dyno tune. We will do a run with the stock box, then tune the car and make more runs. After we are satisfied we will swap in your intake, make another run. At this point we will tune to the readings given when using the NEP Intake.
At the end of the day, my RWHP should be within your advertised claims give or take a few horses. Wish me luck as your car is my goal.
Mike @ New Era 04-12-2008, 09:38 PM Much luck ! Keep me posted with the results .
