: Magnaflow magnapacks and X pipe installed
I just got this setup installed the other day and absolutely love the sound. I actually am going to have to add a couple more packs in the rear to dampen the drone a bit as it is quite loud at higher speeds / rpm. Click on pics below to hear a samples. (Sorry for the poor quality as all I have is a camera phone w/video.) But hopefully it will give you an idea.

drob8 04-06-2008, 12:49 AM Videos man!!!! I'm dying to get an intake and exhaust on this thing. I'm thinking Mangaflows with an X pipe is the way I want to go. Or...wait for Corsa and load up the Touring package. I'm getting antsy though..........

(OR VIDEOS)
EDIT: NICE VIDEOS!!!! any pics under the Car?
lonewolfz28 04-06-2008, 09:07 AM That sounds like a V-8!:biggrin2:
What are the chances of getting a drive-by video?
drob8 04-06-2008, 09:41 AM Thanks G8er! I'm surprised at how quiet it still is. You can tell it's a V8, but it's not so loud that you wake up the neighbors. Interesting...it may almost be too quiet, but I'd love to hear a drive-by if you get a chance.
SRG963 04-06-2008, 10:59 AM That sound perfect to me. Still can fool some people at the stop light. That's exactly what I want, sounds great!
and the tips look nice.

I'll get a drive by done today for ya. I went with more of a performance V8 sound than the heavy rumble that you hear in alot of trucks...or the old muscle car sound of the past. Just my preference. My setup is similar to what alot of the vettes are doing.

I added a few more sample of drive by and inside. Check my original post.
Ausstar 04-06-2008, 02:03 PM do you get any interior vibration with the Drone?? I have found this with mine (just rear mufflers) and realise now why they put those stupid bin sized rears on to start with. This car is loud and once you open it up it will really be loud.
I think that the way to go is a magna or custom h or x pipe, get rid of those little glass packs and put some bigger ones in and the rear Muff swap. I wonder if there would still be any drone after that!!!???
dodson914 04-06-2008, 02:07 PM that's absolute MONEY imo! Great job. Gotta love the magnaflows. :)

I don't necessarilly get vibration, but it is a high pitched noise at certain rpm's that is a bit irritating (atleast to my personal taste). My exhaust guy said that it may be a bit too loud and that a remedy would be to put a couple more packs in the rear to tone it down a bit while keeping it as free flowing as possible. I wanted to hear what it sounded like first with just the packs up front with the removal of those huge boxes / restrictors in the back. I will be going back next week to have the packs put on the back. I don't mind the sound around town...it's just when driving long distances on the freeway over 70 mph it gets annoying.
I'll check with my guy to see what his thoughts would be with an X up front and larger mufflers in back. Thanks for the input.
GeorgeInNePa 04-06-2008, 02:56 PM Nice wheels!
Who makes those?
lonewolfz28 04-06-2008, 02:59 PM Thanks for the drive-by and especially the interior video. That's what I want to hear when I get on the gas.:gr_devil:
Nice wheels!

Thanks. Zenetti. Take a look at the tires / wheels section of the forum where I have more pics and a complete discription of setup.

NP. Hope it was of some use. I love it although I am going to tone it down just a hair as I drive quite a bit on the hwy and need a little less drone. I was seriously going to consider getting one of those exhaust systems they have on the Vauxhaul....the one that you can hit a switch from loud to soft exhaust depending on your mood. I just didn't want to wait for it to become available in the USA.
JAWDRPNG8 04-07-2008, 06:33 AM nice video..clean sound....did you take out the resonator? (is that where your x pipe went jus curius...i left my on...didnt know if it would be too loud inside)

Resonator was replaced with x pipe for better performance. I will be making a few more modifications as I love the exterior sound....but the interior drone needs to be stiffled somewhat. Going to put a couple of the most freeflowing mufflers at the rear to see what happens.
Boomer 04-07-2008, 10:21 PM looks and sounds awesome! it would be great if you could sneak an under shot picture of your setup :)
did u leave the two glass pack looking resonators? or is that what your talking about in the post above mine....
Mike @ New Era 04-07-2008, 10:41 PM Sounds pretty good , would like to see some pics underneath though .
Rue_G8GT 04-08-2008, 10:21 AM Sounds great man! Love that deep tone!
still a little too quiet for me, idk maybe it's the video.
JAWDRPNG8 04-24-2008, 04:19 PM Nice wheels and Exhaust Michael..C YA at hooters GTG tommorow at Arden!

Remember that Magnaflows will gain in volume about 30% I think is what SF said.

30% decible increase??? Long term testing shows 1-2 db increase with HEAVY use.
If a car has a stock db output of 80 db and it is increased 30% numerically it would have output of 104 db. 30% is HUGE and not the case.
Remember that db is a reference point from TOH or the threshold of hearing. A sound which is 10 times as intense is given a value of 10db. a sound which is 10 time more intense than that sound is given a value of 20 db. For each time a sound is increased in intensity by 10 times it it given a value of 10 db more.
A typical muffler used in the correct application will remain within 2 db of how it sounded when initially installed. The "break-in" as this change is often refered to by is a result of teh packing materials expanding under intial heating cycles to fill the muffler case. The acousting damening material is initialy more dense and compacted as is required for packing and assembly, however by design will expand to fill the case under normal operating exhaust temps.

Well, obviously you are the expert in this area. My personal experience as well as many of those who are running my Magnaflow axlebacks on the 05-06 GTO have experienced a welcome increase in sound volume after the initial break-in. Without the high tech testing equipment that Magnaflow has at its disposal us owners/enthusiasts are left with estimates based on personal experience. A 30% increase in fact may be impossible as your testing has shown but how the increase is percieved and described is something altogether different.

jsalbre 04-25-2008, 12:17 AM Since a 3dB gain is double the power, a 30% increase in volume would be roughly 1-2 dB gain (I don't feel like doing the math at midnight,) making you both right.
If I'm wrong (and I'm pretty sure I'm not) please correct me.
g8ace 04-25-2008, 12:29 AM guys i have two straight flow 3" magnaflows that are qued up for the g8. my only question is should i also remove that big ass coffin and replace it with an H or X pipe or just slap the magnaflows on it. i had a c5 with the loudmouth and a loudmouth resonator and it still sucked balls on the freeway especially the l.a to las vegas trips. the drone made me want to blow up the vette.

This is correct. You have to double the power to get a 3dB (spl) increase.

I'd put on the H pipe, you can tone it down if it's too loud, but you still will pick up a couple HP with the H or X pipe.
Gpdan 05-04-2008, 11:23 PM Any chance of getting an under the car picture?
malofquist 05-24-2008, 09:14 PM 30% louder is:
80db + 10*log10(1.30) = 81.14dB
in the field of audio, that's known as 'barely perceptibly louder'
it's pretty silly to say the integrated output is higher. typically the pitch has changed, so the low frequencies might be 20 times louder and the higher frequencies might be 1/20th.
a boost in the frequencies that pass throught the floor board of the car would cause a drone.
it seems these things are rarely approached scientifically.
