Will there be a manufactuer supported G8 race team (like the Caddy CTS-V effort)? I read somewhere that a factory backed race team might have boosted GTO sales.

They had a factory-backed race team. At least for a while. It ran the GTO-R in the Rolex series. But, they replaced it with another car halfway through the season.

With the success of teh Commodore on track in Oz it would be sweet to see, if not factory owned, at least factory sponsored G8s running at Daytona and Sebring next year.

Which is really the same car as the GTO.R with the G6 body stretched over it.

With GM cutting costs in NASCAR I wouldn't expect to see much out of them for support in other racing venues.
