: G8 Vehicles Do Not come with XM Radio
wyd_trkr 04-06-2008, 12:26 PM Talk about a Rip-Off, just like the 04, 05, 06 GTO Owners went through, including myself, is why in the world would any Automobile Manufacturer not offer or include an XM or Sirius Radio in their new Performance Package Sedan cars for 2008. Fact is the Holden Corporation does offer 3 different Radio CD Radio Combinations for the Holden Commodore SS Sedan, but Do Not offer it for the new G8 Vehicles.
My local Dealership did not even have any information on any Optional Radio/Cd/XM Radio Combination , either for the present, much less the Near ot Immediate Future. The only thing my Dealership has to offer is a aftermarket Suction Cup or Velcro Mounting type Stand Alone XM Radio , not an Integrated Unit, so you would be able to see all the XM Radio Channels onto the Factory LED Screen.
Talk about a big dissapointment, even I was thinking about buying one of these cars, but I will not, if they Do Not offer any Options for a better sound system combination. For the $31,825 Sticker Price for these cars, you would think it would at least come with a built in XM Radio, long with the AM/FM/ 6-Disc CD Changer. What do you guy's think?
yevot 04-06-2008, 01:01 PM They'll have it next year (MY'09) but decided not to wait for it to be developed (Australia doesn't use XM) before releasing the car.
I don't know how much the integration is worth to you, but I would think a stand-alone device plugged into the AUX would be enough for me.
isszy 04-06-2008, 04:28 PM Holden do not offer XM on any of their cars. There are no satellite radio providers in Australia, so while we may be able to pick up American satellite stations, there is no understanding of XM in Australia.

I can't believe you're not going to buy a bad ass car because it doesn't have satelite radio. Just go buy a Pioneer Inno 2 or that RC Express color display model.
If the G8 had XM, but only offered a 4.3 liter engine, would you buy it because it had XM, but a sucky engine.
Think of all the things the SEMA people do with their vehicles. Adding XM is not a big thing. Don't miss out on this car!
dodson914 04-06-2008, 05:04 PM I would have had the XM cancelled anyways. LOL There are definitely options out there. Unfortunately most if not all are going to be through the aux at the moment. I am going to hold out for a way to have it integrated into the head unit. Or for someone to come out with a head unit so that I can still see what my a/c is doing.

meh, I wouldnt want a whiner to be an owner anyway. see ya.
G8 Ray 04-07-2008, 10:13 AM Why pay a manufacturer the money for radio options when we all know it's better and cheaper after market.

................
If it had a 4.3 it wouldn't be a GM. Now, a 469hp s/c Northstar 4.4 LC3 from the STS-V would be another thing altogether. Except for the sucky fuel mileage.
wyd_trkr 04-07-2008, 04:09 PM Why pay a manufacturer the money for radio options when we all know it's better and cheaper after market.Aftermarket you say? How about some options that maybe you have investigated or someone else for that matter, has checked on, as I am a XM customer and have it in all of my cars, even my 05 GTO. So, who has changed their factory head unit for an aftermarket with XM or Sirius Radio integrated into the unit? Thanks for the replies and sorry for the rant, but I want my satellite radio , over the regular AM-FM factory version.
Zaphod B 04-07-2008, 04:58 PM I want my satellite radio , over the regular AM-FM factory version.
Just get an add-on unit and plug it into the AUX jack.
wyd_trkr 04-07-2008, 05:04 PM Just get an add-on unit and plug it into the AUX jack.It has to be totally integrated into the head unit or a complete aftermarket head unit replacement. No Mickey Moouse Add-ons for me.

Then instead of complaining on a thread about it why don't you do some research and figure out how to do it or go get another vehicle?
wyd_trkr 04-07-2008, 05:17 PM Then instead of complaining on a thread about it why don't you do some research and figure out how to do it or go get another vehicle?Oh BTW, isn't this the G8 Tech - Stereo / Electronics Forum here?
My reasoning here for all the questions, is because I want someone in here that has already done the research to step up to the plate and share their information with all of us, that are contemplating buying one of these cars and planning ahead as to how we want to set it up is all. No Complaining or Cry Babying here, just looking for good info, Isn't that what Car Enthusiast Forums are all about? Sharing information? Speaking of which, Do you personally Own a G8 ?? If so, what have you done about upgrading or adding onto your Factory System?
wyd_trkr 04-07-2008, 05:21 PM Why pay a manufacturer the money for radio options when we all know it's better and cheaper after market.Good explanation. Has anybody upgraded their Sound System yet on these cars? If so, please share your information, as so the rest of us can see what can be done to satisfy most enthusiast taste.

Yes, I do own one. Thanks for asking. I planned on putting in a kenwood 7100 along with some focal components and a new amp. That plan was shot to hell when I learned that the a/c is integrated into the head unit. So now I am playing the waiting game like many others to see who is going to come out with what to fix this problem. If no one does anything I am sure that they will have sirius or xm add on that can be used with the current head unit. I don't plan on replacing the speakers if I can't change the head unit.
Zaphod B 04-07-2008, 05:37 PM I think a small XM/Sirius add-on would look perfect right in front of the gratituous alternator / oil pressure indicator.

Thanks again for the reply. Who else is going to step up to the plate on this subject of upgrading or replacement of the factory sound system equipment?
Zaphod B 04-08-2008, 10:00 AM Who else is going to step up to the plate on this subject of upgrading or replacement of the factory sound system equipment?
I'm not entirely displeased with the stock system. I may opt for some aftermarket speakers at some point. I have no interest in Sirius / XM.
I may add an aftermarket GPS/Nav system - something like a Garmin Nuvi series that can be used in whatever car it's needed in.
qbunny 04-08-2008, 10:24 AM I just bought an XpressRC off of Ebay to use in my G8. My MP3 player sounds good through the AUX port so hopefully the XM will work just as well. If they come out with an integrated option in the future, then I might get that and can sell this add-on to someone else or use it in the house.
BTW, wyd_trkr your last question that got the response you wanted is much different from your initial "how could they do this to me?" post. Try just asking for information instead of acting like you're assigning a project and everyone here works for you.
SRG963 04-09-2008, 10:32 AM I personally dislike any stock stereo system. Sounds dull and very cheap once turned up. Gutting out the stereo and replacing the head with Alpine/Clarion is my typical choice. If you have a good source, then the rest will sound much better. Looks like it's going to be a little harder on the G8. Maybe Crutchfield will come up with something.
I'll tell you this, if you live in Texas, you only need to deal with Custom Sounds, they seem to know everything...and have for many years. They can do about anything you want, and it's not any more than anyother shop would charge. Since I've moved from Austin I haven't found a shop that I trust to touch my cars. I just do it myself and it turns out perfect.
kfinto 04-11-2008, 10:22 PM Oh well, I guess another lucky person will get a G8 since you got to have the XM. I'm a bit of a high tech redneck and will soon have wires hanging around from the radar detector and Sirius satellite radio.
If you want to complain, complain about GM not installing Sirius in their vehicles. Sirius is so much better than XM....
chiefpontiac 04-14-2008, 07:11 PM http://www.quinden.com/clientinc/upload/g8xmoffer/White_page1_2a.jpgyes, the offer is for a new unit, complete with mini-plug cable. Not integrated, but should be able to purchase the cable separately if you already have an Xpress and XM.

68Rustang 04-14-2008, 07:20 PM That really isn't all that great of a deal. They have the same units available to current XM subscribers for $19.95/$89.99/$129.99 with normal lists of $69.99/$129.99/$169.99 for the EZ/R/RC.
chill 04-14-2008, 07:37 PM If it had a 4.3 it wouldn't be a GM
gm used 4.3's for many years =)

gartht 04-17-2008, 10:48 PM The only thing I hate about the aftermarket xm radios is running the stupid antenna. I wish there was a way to hook it into your regular car antenna. The xm one is ugly and one has to route it through the trunk or window.
gartht 04-17-2008, 11:07 PM I was looking at some pictures of G8s and noticed what looked like an xm antenna on the back roof. It's similiar to the one on my wife's 05 equinox. Does this mean that it can pick up xm signals? If so, that would mean an aftermarket unit would be easier to hook up.

You can mount the XM antenna on a corner of the dash and the only way you are going to see it is if you really look for it. The audio shop here in town does them all the time like that and they say there is never a problem with reception.

Like the title states, yes, I did buy a Brand New 2009.5 Bad Ass G8 GT just a week ago and guess what? It comes with an XM Radio. Now, I am very happy with this car. Glad I waited and bought an 2009.5, verses the 2008's that did not have XM Radio from the factory.
r33pwrd 02-28-2009, 02:18 PM The XM sucks IMO where I live i cannot use it to and from work or I get more static than music... even on my trip up I-5 yesterday it did not work all that well... nice to have when it works but sounds worse than FM when it works. If it wasnt there i would not miss it one bit!

r33pwrd, evidently you must have an antenna reception issue, as myself living here in Florida, as well as my friend that lives in South Carolina just bought our 2009 G8 GT's and have not had one problem with the reception on the XM/Sirus reception on either one of our radios.
Also, there must be allot of overcast clouds where you live, as that alone will hinder the reception on any satellite reception you get on XM/Sirus Radio equipment. Hope this helps, as the XM/Sirus quality sound and reception is as good as any FM reception on these 2 GT's.
RxApple 03-02-2009, 11:19 PM I think XM sounds way better than FM, and the only time I have a reception problem is if there is a tall building or two in the way....

And that's because both of you live way south or where it is flat at a pancake. Flatter really. :)
Up here in Seattle XM, Sirius. Doesn't matter. Dropout up the wazoo once you get off the highway. Trees? Dropouts. On north side of a small hill? Dropouts. I'm not about to optimize my commute for sat reception either.
I like both services. But I'd rather have HD.

wvg8gt 10-08-2009, 02:27 PM The quickest solution is buying a smart phone and using its output jack to stream the sat radio. It works with my Sprint Touch Pro 2 and will work with many other phones. The other beautiful thing is the Phone has GPS also...
