TriShield 04-06-2008, 10:46 PM I am aiming to purchase the GXP once it's released and I just watched this video about it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9lrzjxHZDk
The orange the car was shown in was for the show only? That color MAKES the car and is exactly what I would pick.
Why is GM so averse to giving this car some high impact hues to set it apart from the crowd?
Brazen Orange is what sold me on the GTO and kept me from getting an SRT8. It would be the same story with the GXP here.
Please GM give us this orange as well as Holden's Morpheus purple, Crunch yellow, Passion red and other colors.

yes, the copper color that was on some G8 prototypes was excellent. When I say ignitiion orange , it looked too creamsicle for me

Agreed. Compared to Fusion/Brazen on the GTOs and the orange on the GXP show car Ignition left so much to be desired. Ignition should be replaced by what the GXP show car is wearing.

Evoke/Magentic Grey is kind of close the Shadow Grey of the G8 show car GM unveiled last year.

That one made me laugh. :D
I'm with you I like COLOR in a vehicle. I drove by a parking lot the other day and amidst the sea of grays, silvers, whites and blacks was sitting a YELLOW vehicle. My eyes were drawn to it and the rest ignored. Some people like it that way. Some of us like the attention grabbing colors. Choices are the key. Hear that GM?

i prefer neutral colors for the simple reason that the police pay less attention to those vehicles... i've already had a yellow car and within a year i managed to rack up 9 tickets... the previous car i had none, and the following 4 i had none...
not that i hate those colors, but even if i owned a Lamborghini, i'd get white or burgundy... only because white, silver, black, gray, burgundy, etc neutral colors don't make you come off as a self loathing, ADD bearing, young-and-needy kind of person... if you want a loud color, thats cool... i won't talk down to the person who owns a bright car, but for my tastes i'd pass...

Holden already paints this car those colors too which adds insult to injury. They designed this car with bright hues in mind. Muscle cars and candy colors are a natural combo.
GM already offers numerous mild colors but I prefer a special car to wear a special hue to make it pop, especially one styled with contemporary styling like the G8. It doesn't stand out on the road as much or get attention as well without a color to draw the eyes.
Bill@hptuners 04-08-2008, 05:26 AM I agree the orange from the shows shouldve definitely been offered.

To each their own but let me pass this on about color being a "police magnet". I got 3 tickets in the matter of about 5 years in a $hit brown colored car. I got 1 in 3 years in a BLACK car. I've gotten ZERO tickets (knock on wood) in 9 years of driving "look at me" blue vehicles. I think the ticket thing has more a correlation with the STYLE of driving a vehicle, not it's color. I like to see colors as they "excite" my senses. I don't care what others think, if they equate that to inadequency then I think it speaks VOLUMES about that person and NOTHING about me. :) To each their own.

GregKJ 04-08-2008, 10:30 PM I think that I'll have to side with Russo on this one...
For a 4-door car, the orange would be a little too much for me. A sporty 2-door car can get away with more. The orange on the GTO fits it.
And don't say that just because Dodge does it, GM should also. I would never buy a lime green 4-door Charger. A lime green Challenger? Maybe.
isszy 04-09-2008, 12:46 AM That color more or less reappeared in 2006 as Spice Red on the GTO and it was an awesome color in person. I'd still rather have orange though.
Spice red was similar but not the same as far as I understand. The concept car was much more metallic.
TriShield 04-09-2008, 01:20 AM And don't say that just because Dodge does it, GM should also. I would never buy a lime green 4-door Charger. A lime green Challenger? Maybe.
Holden already paints this car these colors and actively promotes them. Why are we getting screwed?
And you can't throw a rock without hitting a bright green, yellow, orange, purple and red Charger here.
If GM wanted this car to be boring and blend in why did they tack hood scoops on to it? Why did they add chrome everywhere?
GregKJ 04-09-2008, 02:53 AM If GM wanted this car to be boring and blend in why did they tack hood scoops on to it? Why did they add chrome everywhere?
GM wanted it to be a sporty and tastefully done 4-door....not an over-the-top 2-door wannabe.
Are you disappointed that GM doesn't offer Lambo doors on it? I hope not. Lambo door would be too much and that is how quite a few people would judge a 4-door sedan with bright paint.
I'm not saying bright paint is as bad as Lambo doors, but the majority of people wouldn't want bright paint, and options that are seldomly chosen do add cost to production.
Look on the bright side (pun indended)... You'll have a one-of-a-kind G8 if you get yours painted!
johnh 04-09-2008, 10:55 AM I love the the Brazen Orange.....please offer it on the GXP!!!
They should definitely offer it on the GXP, otherwise why tease us with that car!!?
BTW Fusion Orange and Brazen Orange are not the same color.
spd98 04-09-2008, 11:01 AM I miss my brazen goat. I loved that color! The GXP will be the wifey's though so she can get what she wants. since there looks to be no coupe anytime soon for pontiac looks like my next one will be atomic orange.

LOL! I don't follow your logic.
The Charger Daytona and SRT8, the Challenger R/T and SRT8 versions are both considered performance muscle cars so why would it matter why a color such as lime green matter if one car is a 2 door coupe or a 4 door sedan?
Lime green is one funky looking color on ANY car!

brazen has alot more gold in it, where as fusion has a more true orange tint, and then there is sunset orange metallic also (ss's and ws6's) which has more red in it, very similar to cambells tomato soup with a little sparkle lol

GregKJ 04-09-2008, 06:26 PM I finally watched the youtube video that the OP linked to (youtube is blocked at work). I left a comment on the video, but I doubt the guy allows it to be shown.
What was with that host? He was leaning all over the car...blocking the camera's view of it. What type of person conducts an interview while leaning all over the topic of the interview like that?
TriShield 04-09-2008, 10:39 PM GM wanted it to be a sporty and tastefully done 4-door....not an over-the-top 2-door wannabe.
Then why did they tack on hood scoops? Why does the GXP come with huge gaudy chrome wheels? Why did they paint the SEMA and NY GXP show cars orange? Why are they working on a body stripe kit? Why don't they advertise it as a luxury car instead of solely on performance and cheap price? None of that is exactly tasteful.
The Pontiac brand itself has never screamed class and that will never change, wrong brand, wrong image. GM should be leaving that stuff to Cadillac and the CTS, this is a muscle car and it should look like a proper muscle car.
If Holden built the car with scissor doors already and we weren't offered it for some reason I wouldn't feel any differently. There's no reason we shouldn't be getting the same colors and features that Holden is already building this car with.
By the sentiment I see elsewhere I know I'm not alone on nav, bluetooth, the high spoiler, a manual on the GT with the L98 and the colors we're missing out on.
The car is already offered in colors you like, it's not going to hurt you if they offer the car in colors people like me would rather have. Holden designed this car for high-impact, hero colors in mind and as a flagship it deserves to be noticed. If GM wants me to drop a large sum of money on one I would like a color as special as the rest of car just like Brazen on my GTO.

TriShield 04-10-2008, 12:30 AM You don't really want a L98 do ya?
I do not like cylinder deactivation and that's one major reason the GXP interests me.
I think it would have been smart for GM to certify both the L76 and L98 for the US so both the automatic and manual could be offered on th GT.
GregKJ 04-10-2008, 03:21 AM Then why did they tack on hood scoops? Why does the GXP come with huge gaudy chrome wheels? Why did they paint the SEMA and NY GXP show cars orange? I thought I already gave my answer on the hood scoops question. They wanted it to look sporty (because it is a sporty RWD 4-door). Big wheels aren't gaudy...almost everyone wants them. I'm not saying they're going after the high-class look. I guess your definition of tasteful and mine is a lot different.
They are offering an orange...just not that orange. There is probably a lot of reasons for it. For one, show cars need to grab attention and need to look as best as they can, so I would bet that the paint job on the show car likely cost over $10,000.
The Pontiac brand itself has never screamed class and that will never change, wrong brand, wrong image. GM should be leaving that stuff to Cadillac and the CTS, this is a muscle car and it should look like a proper muscle car.
You need to look up the definition of "muscle car" because the G8 and Charger don't fit it. So no matter how hard a paint job will try to scream "muscle car", it doesn't pull it off in my book.
If Holden built the car with scissor doors already and we weren't offered it for some reason I wouldn't feel any differently. There's no reason we shouldn't be getting the same colors and features that Holden is already building this car with.

Maybe this car isn't for you then. And maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that this is or should be a "HEY, LOOK AT ME!" type of car.
Despite your opinion, adding additional colors to the palet does add cost (even if Holden already offers the colors). So yes, it would hurt me because the standard price would go up or GM's margins would go down, so I'd argue that it should be a cost option if they ever decide to offer it.
Okay, I'm done. Get a bright custom paint job and that custom high spoiler....or just go buy the Dodge.
GregKJ
It's statements like yours that alienate other G8 owners. I want the higher spoiler they are showing as an 09 dealer installed accessory. I want the brazen orange on my G8 GT. Got any more witty negative comments about other people's tastes (which happen to be offered on the Holdens)?
Cost is going to go up on the same assembly line where that color we want is already offered on the holden Ute before it or the vauxhall vxr after it? - Doubtful
Telling people to go buy a different car because they want Pontiac to offer a color they offer in another market is a little childish. Why do you care so much, it isn't going to stop you from getting what you want?
johnh 04-10-2008, 10:08 AM where as fusion has a more true orange tint, and then there is sunset orange metallic also (ss's and ws6's) which has more red in it,

Here's one... People's tastes are offered on Holdens? Wow.
Okay, seriously... I'm not trying to alienate...just offering my opinions. This thread would be awefully boring it is was completely full of comment like "I agree" or "+1". What would be the point? Forums are interesting because of the differing opinions of the members.
Cost is going to go up on the same assembly line where that color we want is already offered on the holden Ute before it or the vauxhall vxr after it? - Doubtful
I don't know the full numbers, but here's an example... Let's say that Pontiac orders 1000 G8s in black, 1000 in white, and 75 in orange. The orange G8s will likely be more expensive to produce because the factory isn't able to buy the orange paint in the quantities of the black and white. Make sense?
We all know that GM wanted the GT version to come in at under a MSRP of $30k. Giving up a certain hue of orange was maybe one of the factors that was able to make it happen.
These things aren't as simple as they first appear. (And I'm sure that they aren't as simple as I understand them either!)
If you can't see any truth is what I wrote, then what reason do you think that GM made not to offer that particular hue of orange? They don't make these decisions based upon a coin toss. There is a reason behind it, and I'm betting that the reason is cost.
Telling people to go buy a different car because they want Pontiac to offer a color they offer in another market is a little childish. Why do you care so much, it isn't going to stop you from getting what you want?
You're right, I don't care a lot. I could read a thread full of complaints, but I guess what I'm trying to do is defend GM's decisions. A lot of decisions they make are solely based upon costs.
So if anyone doesn't want the orange currently offered and wants the $10,000 (complete guess) paint job of the show car, their best bet is to get a custom paint job. Seriously.
I'm not trying to piss people off. I'm just trying to be realistic (and a little entertaining). I'm sorry if I didn't pull that off.
I just don't understand why they have chosen to discontinue orange and the current blue, then offer two new blues (niether of which I like, it may just be the picture), one additional red for a total of two red, and then silver is new too.
So if you like grayscale you have your choice between white, silver, gray or black.
If you like red you have two colors to choose from.
If you like blue you have two colors to choose from.
That's it! A version of grayscale then, red, or blue. What variety they are affording us... Is it too much to ask to get at least one vibrant color for 2009. I understand that color choices can change at any time, but at least plan in advance for one vibrant color.
Perhaps instead of offering redundant colors of red and blue they could get rid of one of the reds or blues and offer at least one of the following: yellow, orange, purple, green. It's as if they lost their elementary school color wheel out of their desk or they are in bizzaro world and only see things in black, white, red and blue. Maybe that is the theme... red, white, and blue. Can I get my car painted in 1/3s and an American Flag on the top.
