vhato,
Tint percentage numbers refer to the amount of light allowed to pass through. Higher number means lighter tint, lower number darker car. I think "Limo" tint is 15%.

Anyway, I have an appointment in the morning to get mine 60% all the way around, which is the legal max here in Ohio.

Thanks, according to the weather channel probably won't have a chance for that until next week :( Ideally I would have gone the next step to 35% but There are some areas around me that really like to write illegal tint tickets. They don't care if their own grandmother is driving,if it is too dark you get a ticket. I could've gone darker in just the rear, it is legal but I don't like the uneven look.

True limo tint is 2 to 5%
Legal is usually somewhere around 25 to 35%
I go 5 to 15%, typically the lower
and remember, that % is vision into the car, not out of.

Yeah, WI is 35% rear 50% front unless your an SUV or truck then who knows.

I have 5% on my GTP as posted above and I have been pulled over once for doing nothing wrong (the cop was "fishing" ... my car may have set off a red flag in their mind.... clean black car, black windows, chrome rims, big brakes... DRUG DEALERS!..."

But nah. I don't really think the limit is enforced too much around here until lately when departments need more money. So far my car has been tinted for 4 years and no big problems.

30% is very nice. I think i shouldve gone with that instead of 20%. 20 is just too dark to get away with in NJ. I had 35% (which is what i'd just consider 30%) on my Trans Am for almost 3 years and never got a ticket. I've had tint on my G8 for about 3 months. I've been pulled over twice, got a ticket once. I tried 35% with ebay pre cut tint. It was too light and I screwed up the back window and creased one side window. MI law doesn't allow anything on the drivers and passenger front window but a 4" strip which looks stupid. Just had it tinted yesterday and went with 15% on the rear doors and back window to keep it legal. Took the shop about 45 minutes and ran me $140 with a lifetime warranty. Here's a few pics from a car show today. Need to get some better shots by itself.

I would go at least 50%, anything less won't be very noticeable inside or out. I've done 35% on my cars in the past in Ohio. If cops are pricks, they can hassle or ticket you for it, but generally they don't worry unless you go alot darker like 20% or less. At 35%, you can still see inside the car during the day when you're up close. Going darker than that looks cool but makes driving at night difficult to see and dangerous. Really depends on the cops where you live.

A trick I used on my Camaro to tint violations - as soon as you know you're getting pulled over, roll the front windows all the way down, leave the back windows up. I don't care if it's zero out. Shut the car off. When he asks you about the window tint, tell him the back is tinted but not the front, which is not illegal in Ohio. If the windows are all the way down, he can't check them. If he tells you to raise them, say the switch is broke (crappy GM product, lol). The cop will get pissed but he knows he can't issue a ticket for the fronts if he doesn't put his meter on them and he can't do that if you won't raise them up. Then, never drive through that area again, as he will tell all his cop friends to watch for you.

I have a question, the law says it Must allow more than 70% of light in on both front and back side windows, and the front and back can let any darkness for front and back... so that means i will be good with 35-40% ?
Also how much does it usually cost to tint the windows?
thanks,

35% is pretty light. You can tell it's tinted but it's not very dark at all. 15% is perfect for me. Looks dark on the outside but just slightly tinted from the inside. It's easy to see out of at night.

As for cost, it was $140 to have the rear doors and back window done. It would have been $160 if I had the front windows done. That's with a lifetime warranty too.

Funny.. I lived in NC for 4 years for school, got pulled over 3 times and no hassles about tint at all and I had 20% all around with 40% on the windshield (all passed state inspection). I hear it really depends on what part of the state you're in..

Allowing 75% of light in means you can't really get any tint on the front windows (I hope they're talking just about the fronts) in NY. The % you get tells you what percentage of light it should let in. I usually get my cars with 20% tint so in a perfect world, only 20% of light should be let in..

With that said, I personally wouldn't go lighter than 35% no matter what the law was because anything lighter doesn't really make a difference to me..

I think some cars actually come from the factory with 70% tint (maybe even slightly darker like 60%). According to that site you posted, the NY tint law means you'd be illegal with any type of noticeable tint (50% or lower). You could go 35% all around in NC but once you get back to NY you'd be breaking the law. It's all in if you're worried about getting tickets for tint, I personally have never been worried about it. There are a few members from NY with tint that may be able to chime in..

leave the windshield as is... as for the front windows, I have seen a lot of cars without the front tinted.. i prefer tinted, altho you can do 20 in the back and 35 on the front two

On my 06 GP I had 30 front and 20 back, the car was white, and the front IMO was too light, on a black car it may have been better.. But then I had to get it inspected, so I had the front done at 20 to match and it looked better... I think 20 is just dark enough without being too dark..

where are you stationed?
