: Tranny Mode Questions + Dealership Drama
DoHBoY 04-07-2008, 03:12 PM Hey all, i unfortunately haven't gotten a chance to test drive a G8 yet due to dealers being asshats. Went into Ed Morse Sawgrass on friday told me i could come back saturday and drive one, come back sunday and another salesman tells me "its a high demand vehicle, we cant let you test drive it and put miles on it" and i told the guy he better check the mileage because last time i checked a "high demand" vehicle with 41 miles on the SHOWROOM MODEL is pretty damn high. Then another salesman walks by and hears me say it has alot of miles, and he asks how much, i tell him and he goes "uh, thats not alot at all"... i guess he doesnt know how "high demand" and picky the people being a G8 are...... Anyhow point being, if it was such a high demand picky vehicle it wouldnt have anything over the 5-10 from factory, i know i wouldnt buy an Evo X with 41miles on it. (each test drive is <1mi, how many employees tore ass in it to bring it up to 41 for them to tell me i cant drive it?)
Well on to the real purpose of this post, i wanted to know how the tranny modes work. Supposably there is 3, Auto, Manual, and Sport. How do you select sport mode and whats the difference between that and manual?
Also what launch controls does this car have if any? Or do you just have to brake stand it?
Last question... How the HELL do you turn on the fog lights? on the knob i see the foglight symbol on the bottom of it but where do i turn it to? seems theres only day time runners, normal lights, and brights none of which use the fogs on the bottom just the side amber markers.
Thanks in advance for the answers guys. Hopefully i'll be joining this community alot more in the future once i sell off this 08 Lancer GTS. I really hope to get a GT.
Chipless 04-07-2008, 03:20 PM The tranny has three modes. For normal automatic shifting, just put the shifter in D. If you slide the shifter to the right, it goes into Sport mode, and the shifts become a little snappier. Once you're in Sport mode, you can then move the shifter forward or backward if you want to take over and shift manually.
The fog lamps are turned on by pulling the light switch out. I had to read the manual to figure that one out. :)
G8 Ray 04-07-2008, 03:22 PM Pull the head light knob to get the fogs on. You can also turn the knob to the position to the right of auto to get them on.
Trans:
Auto mode: Fully automatic.
Sport mode: Side the shifter to the right of auto. Trans will upshift on it's own.
Pull the shifter to the -symbol and it will downshift and put you in manual mode. It will stay in whatever gear you have it until you hit the rev limiter or shift.
chiefpontiac 04-07-2008, 03:23 PM 41 miles on the first 1000 Solstices was about average and they only came from Delaware. They were road tested and water tested and such, one I saw had 13 separate factory inspection stickers as they were readied for distribution. Years back Chrysler got into trouble for disconnecting odometer cables when they put 50-150 test track miles on each and every Imperial prior to shipment.
G8Smitty 04-07-2008, 05:11 PM Keep in mind that “High demand” is relative. They are selling Pontiacs. :)
Smtkd 04-07-2008, 05:29 PM My car had 191 test drive miles before I bought it. Your dealership was just a bunch of crackheads. 41 is high but 191 now thats PCP high!

double true

Did they run out of room on the barge for yours? Seems like they DROVE it from Austrailia.. :eek2:
Smtkd 04-07-2008, 05:46 PM No it was used to train local dealers about it at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Thats where I test drove it and eventually bought it!
DoHBoY 04-07-2008, 07:39 PM Well i went back to the dealer today and the manager was there. he said "who the hell told you that? thats rediculous, when another salesman gets in here we will get you out there in one right now" So the first guy i talked to on friday came in and he brought me out in it. The car was fresh out the works 6 miles on it, just got done taking all the plastic off and gassing it up, they let me drive it about 2 miles, some back road and in traffic. I am amazed with that car, great speed and smooth ride. The comforts of it makes me highly unable to bring myself to spend another $12k for an infiniti.
The tranny seems to get confused easily, coming from driving a CVT that you can go up and down through the gears as fast as you want im use to blowing through them. When i pulled into the parking lot in the G8 i downshifted to first while breaking but it didnt realize it and then all of a sudden as im rolling in it downshifts and throws the RPMs hell high and at the same time i was just about to push it over to drive and it bucked and who the hell knows what i was going through but that was ONE HELL of a delay. Regardless it drove great, on the road the tranny was responsive but i wish there was some way to permanently turn off the auto shift because it annoys the hell out of me, ill shift when i want to and if i have to downshift (-) before it stops doing that everytime thats a bit of a PITA.
DoHBoY 04-07-2008, 09:16 PM As far as those fog lights go, go figure.. i try turning it every direction and pushing on it and the only thing i didnt do was pull !
Bit off topic, but whats with those google ad's at the bottom? "2008 Ford Official Site" "Dodge Car Dealership", google is advertising fords and dodges on a pontiac forum, amazing!
Solrac 04-08-2008, 11:22 PM I bought my Black V6 G8 from Ed Morse Sawgrass, i had no problem at all, as a matter of fact, i was the only one to test drive at 5 miles. I guess everyone was to busy testing the V8... they had a Liquid Red V8 in the show room with 46 miles on it

Did you buy yours this week? just monday it still had 41mi, wonder if someone else took it to weston again to get that 5mi
but yeah even the guy i dealt with said the other salesmen is a douche, so it was just who was there. Needless to say my experience was wonderful on friday and monday!
Blackbirdws6 04-10-2008, 10:37 AM thats just stupid. I test drove a car that had 81 miles on it and they could care less. It was a good idea they let me at least test drive the car since I ended up buying the car that came in 2 weeks later. I expressed that the car not be driven by anyone and sure enough it came with only 4 miles on it. I was very pleased.

Zaphod B 04-10-2008, 12:14 PM Shoot, the black GT that I bought had 124 miles on the clock, so everyone and their grandmas had had a shot at it before I did. :eek2:
Solrac 04-10-2008, 12:52 PM i live in weston... u live in weston too?

I've seen your grand prix at Trails! Very cool and unique car! I used to take my mustang there once in a while...Marion too.
TrickStang37 04-11-2008, 01:19 AM haha After working at a dealership, 40 miles is not alot at all. Actually, its average. Most dealerships dont have a specific car they test drive anymore, they just test drive whatever is in stock and the customer likes most to try and make the sale on that specific car. I wouldnt even call it rare at all to see a car with 80-120 miles. I'd say the average test drive is ~4 miles but do range up to ~15+ miles.
68Rustang 04-11-2008, 01:38 PM Mine had 3 on it when I first saw it, 9 after my test drive, 10 when I picked it up, and now 536 1 week later :)
SparcV 04-11-2008, 02:28 PM When I test drove a GT it had 350 miles on it! Apparently the owner of the dealership took it for a week to try it out. The one I got had 14 miles on it. The dealer post delivery prep sheet stated the car had 4 miles when it was delivered and when they were done prepping it it had 14 miles and now a week and a half later I'm at 700 miles.

that is quite normal.
actually, I'd say 50% of the miles put on a new vehicle are from the sales guys driving them, from running quick errands and that sort but the majority from making food runs, which means a good percentage of cars with any miles (cars usually have ~3-4 miles from the factory) had some sort of fast food in it.
BlueGoat 04-13-2008, 01:02 PM 4 miles on mine. And I know the mechanic that pre-delivered it didn't run it more than a couple of city blocks.
