See if you can "borrow" for measurement purposes the first one of these your Chevy dealer orders. Air travels through the piping fast enough that heat should not be a concern. Air will potentially move faster through smooth metal than rough plastic. Since steel and/or aluminum are much stronger than plastic of same thickness realize that plastic piping is smaller i.d. than any metal pipe that fits same rubber connectors.
