Forum Activity has majorly dropped, is this due in fact that so many people are dissapointed with no LS2 in the G8 of the announcement at the autoshow?

yea, I think it is because there isn't going to be any news for a while
(my guess is until pricing is announced) and nobody is going to be driving one
for almost a full year.

I, for one, was disappointed with no LS2 for a bit, but now am pretty
excited about the L76. I think it was the way to go. I think the L76 has great
potential for those that want it, but good specs (HP, mileage, and no
premium gas) for the casual public. Good overall sales will only help in the
long run.

I am a little concerned talking to the dealer (that I bought the GTO and G6
from) the other day. He didn't talk about selling it for above sticker, but
he alluded to nothing off sticker. I guess I wouldn't be surprised, but I was
hoping for a little more flexibility. We'll have to see.

Yea, the G8 board will have LS1GTO's old web server in a month or two. Yes there is a slow spot in news. But as production starts we should have much more traffic. Until then all we get to do is inspect the aussie versions.

Everyone that has seen the car that I have talked to absolutely loves it!

There's really nothing to talk about until GM announces pricing and availability. We have a whole year to go until people can get their hands on it.

I'm sure it will pickup as soon as there is something new to talk about.

Pricing and RPO codes will be the next change that will boost discussions. Until then everything we do is guided speculation. And they have to save something (LS2) for the GXP model. My guess is that will happen when the Zeta Impala SS enters production (alongside Camaro)

Ooo. I just saw a current gen Impala commercial and took the opportunity to tell my dad about the next gen one! He, of course, wrinkled his brow when I told him it was from Australia. Best GMs in the world come from there!

I know. Totally OT but I just wanted to post whore a bit to get my count up before all the newbies come flooding in later on. :)

I'm sure that you are aware that the nex Impala (Zeta) will be built in Oshawa, Canada. Not from Australia as the G8 will start. GM will be upgrading the Oshawa plant in order to start production of the future North American Zeta line-up.

That's true! I do remember that (now that you mention it). IIRC, and maybe I don't, I was just thinking that it was going to essentially be like a reskinned Holden Statesman hence, the Australian connection. I had forgotten at that particular moment about where they will be built in the future. Thanks for setting me straight! :slap: :drink:

Many on this forum have been asking that the G8 have an LS2 instead of the L76 V8. Why? You like paying gas guzzler taxes, like the LS2 GTO (only more, since the G8 is heavier)?

More likely the L76 will be supplanted in a GXP model by a new, high-performance engine that will meet fuel economy laws, probably with the AFM feature (and others?).

That's the reason that both the Camaro and new Impala are still quite a ways from production, at least a year after the G8. Even if the G8 never gets built in Oshawa (or Kansas, like the previous gen GP) you shouldn't be able to tell much difference.

I believe the new 6.2 for 'vette and trucks has DOD for economy.

Yeah, the rumor was that GM wanted a reskinned Statesman for Buick. But, Buick dealers have turned down that idea. :slap: I still hear that the Zeta Impala will be a night & day difference from the current one.

Zeta Impala to me will just be a front and rear clip G8

The theory was that Buick dealers saw the Statesman as a "stop gap" car until the North American Zeta Buick started being built. But, in automotive terms, 2 years might as well be an eternity.

Some of us 'core' members are still here.. but activity is low(er). I think as we hear more about the actual pricing/production of the G8 the forums will jump alive.

Give it a few months, and remember us 'core' guys =)

RLS,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the various DOD and AFM systems show about 14% gas mileage improvement? Will that in fact keep a G8 out of guzzler territory? Going to be close....!

I would be very surprised to see the G8 have the gax tax attatched to it.

I bet the manual won't. The same way the GTO and Corvette get around it (1-4 shift under light load), the G8 could get around it as well.

Granted, with DoD/AFM, It probably won't have all that much to worry about to begin with

Lack of news and information about the car more than anything else.

I am not convinced that GM \ Pontiac is doing ( did ) the right thing by releasing detailed specifications so far before ( expected ) launch...

I don't see how they are going to maintain interest.
I and the 7 (?) others here & on other such Forums may still be interested early next year. Still 9 months from now.

We'll see.

The only other information I need now is pricing... they got me at the edge of my seat until then. I know what the power is.. I don't feel spoiled by GM releasing that at all. If anything I want inside one now because just prior to the G8s announcment I was on the verge of buying a Mazdaspeed 6...

Friends have a few of those and driving in those makes me want one, but ... must.. hold... out... for... G8.

dude, G8>MS6 hands down. a dude i know has one and 2 be honest its not that impressive. and with 100 less hp theres no real potential for power. IMHO the G8 looks to be much nicer. Hold out and you will most likely be happier in the long run.

Oh for sure, I was just mentioning that prior to any G8 announcement I was considering a MS6. :quoties: Regardless... I'm going to wait for the G8 GT.

They would be smart to produce more show cars in different colors. They should also release pricing information and GXP tidbits up to the launch.

6 speed LS2 cars never got the gas guzzler tax. M6 is the only way I'd order this vehicle. I'd rather have the extra power and torque! Fuel economy? Newsflash, any of these cars whether LS2 or L76 aren't gonna get great MPG's if you keep your foot in it, so it's really a moot point. However, even a moderately driven M6 LS1/LS2 can still manage 18 mpg in town and mid 20's on the highway. Very respectable for a 400hp performance car!

FYI, Buick DEALERS don't have a say in what GM gives them. Buick's product team and management in Detriot working alongside with GM decides that! Buick dealers can give feedback, but that's about it!

There would be alot more activity if the people at GM would get off their duffs and release some info. Keep the target market excited about the product.

They are doing the usual ( which is nothing ) and that is what loses them sales to the competitors. GM should at least say here we have a product and we want to sell it. Here are some brochures, press releases, E mails. Pre production models will be on tour at x,y,z cities to test drive and you can put your name down on the order list at this time.

Notify GM card holders that the G8 can be one of the pics on your card you can choose. They should also be adding the Camaro to the available pics. That way people will be reminded that every time they make a purchase they will have money put toward their car. Simple enough, definitely not too much to ask and it's effective.

GM advertising and P.R. Dept's are GM's worst enemies. Their lack of effectiveness is just like giving money to the competitor's advertising and P.R. Dept's.

Cool Handy Luke: Your words are as true as you can get. There is like nothing going on with this car pre-release. This is supposed to be part of their "New Rear Wheel Drive World Architechture". Whatever! 95% of GM's commercials suck. You hit on all the good points about GM and their Advertising & PR shortcomings.
