I just read that GM and DC are in "talks" for GM to buy Chrysler from DC

Not real sure how that would turn out if it happens...

It could come down to one of those deals where it becomes in the best interests of the country for a domestic corporation to re-own Chrysler, to preserve as many jobs as possible (understanding that even after planned downsizing more jobs will be on the chopping block with a merger).

To me it just seem they have too many simular vehicels. I mean segment wise.

I can think up a few reasons why GM would want to buy Chrysler.


To block anyone else from buying them, thus eliminating a competitor especially if they get them cheap.
To leverage the use of Mercedes Bluetec diesel technology
Instantly gain a huge lead over Toyota
To force the UAW to deal
Brand new minivans ready to roll out
Merge Jeep and Hummer to create a complete lineup


Most likely it's not going to happen unless Diamler is willing to split the legacy costs.

^ I think Daimler got in cheap. SO they ought to be able to get out cheap. I bet most of the engineering went one directional. I haven't seen any Hemi-powered E-class Mercs running around.
