Hey All,

I am looking into getting a V6 and I was wondering if the car will lay some rubber if you turn off the stability control? Also if you manual shift down to 1st around a right hand turn and floor it will you fish tail? Will a need a V8 for this kind of fun?

Thanks!

94-96 Impala SS could do it ten years ago with about the same amount of horsepower and 200 more lbs. You may need a tune though. My 96 Impala SS will put a stock GT to shame as far as burnouts. Torque management is some BS.

If I go around a corner with traction control on and in sport mode, she'll fish tail a little until traction control kicks in. So I would think if TC was turned off, I would really be sideways in my V6. I also tried the burnout. I had traction off and held the brake. I gave it gas and broke the tires loose and the rear end started side stepping. It was a so-so burnout because I was in small road and I got out of the gas when the back end came around. If you want to see some good V6 burnouts, do a youtube search on G8 rental car burnout.

My STS-V with it 469 hp V8 wont even do smokey burn outs neither will my friends SRT8 jeep.

I think torque control keeps you from losing traction even if stability control is off.

If I hold the brake and apply gentle throttle, I the tires will squeal.

I test drove a GT with Bridgestones in the rain and I couldn't get it to break loose under normal driving. My 04 GTO M6 would spin the tires without even trying. It was kind of dangerous in the rain.

aren't those both AWD cars? If so that was a dumb statement. Obviously they won't do burnouts.

STS-V is a rear drive car so you are not too smart either it seems and my friend does 4 wheel burnouts with his Evo VIII so whats your point?

V6 could squeal a tire but NO burnout. As for power steering the V6 out of a tight corner, are you kidding? Get a V8

Before coming in a V6 thread and saying "Get a V8" as the habit seems to be here, get informed. I can tell you I did a demonstration with my V6 in which I drove an improvised course using the steering only to point the car in the right direction and counter extreme oversteer.

256HP is not enough for burnouts, but it is enough for a lot of driving fun.

Thanks for the feedback ! I am going to have to look into this whole torque control thing. It doesnt sound very fun. Thanks Again. I should be picking up my V6 by the end of the week.

i bet it could be done. My '95 Astro does great power-brake burnouts and it only has 200hp. (however, the final drive is only like 2.93...so that helps.)

250HP in a RWD car LOL! Fun if you don't drive hard maybe. By the way, my wife rents a car every week as part of her job and about a year ago she was given a V6 G8, so I HAVE driven this piece of crap

How do you guys say no burnouts? Didn't you watch the video that was posted above.

I imagine you could if you got a tune because of torque management. The torque MGT is very invasive when it comes time to do burnouts, at least it is in the GT. Not sure if the V6 employs the same torque MGT system. Does anyone know the answer to this? In any case, you should be able to have some fun! :)

Well I guess you must be better driving a V8, cause when I drive my V6 hard and with TC off, it'll go sideways if I want it to, and it will push you back in your seat if you squeeze the pedal. All it really lacks is a shorter 1st gear and a bit low-RPM torque. I know it's not a V8, but remember before coming in the V6 forums to tell us we drive pieces of crap, that some of us don't **** money and would rather be driving a V6 G8 than a Cobalt (my previous car).

Thank you.

So your calling the G8 a piece of crap. If you don't like it, buy a Ford then.

Question... What is the quarter mile on the V6 bone stock. I have heard different numbers from sub 15's to mid 15's. Anyone take it to the track?

Unless I powerbrake the thing, I can't do a burnout because of the TM.

People like you are Pathetic how come you didnt get the GXP which would eat your car alive better yet why not the Camaro SS which would make you look like stary eye kid ready to cry haha get a life dude. This must be your first fast car cause seem like a tool funny thing is Ive had a SRT-4 which would destroy alot of 8cyl out there and its half the size, But bite your tongue a little modding goes a long way you spent 30k+ or around when I spent 22K and saved the rest for a supercharger coming my way So BITE ME BIATCH!:judge::slap:

Ditto on that. I'd rather be driving a V6 G8 than my previous car, which had a V8 but only 200 horsepower! 256 HP is plenty of power for any sane person. I just couldn't resist the GT since the difference in gas mileage wasn't too big. This is the first car I've ever had where I never ever wished for more power. Less, sometimes, but never more.

I totally agree with the "some of us don't **** money" comment too. My $800 per month car payment seemed a whole lot smaller in theory than it is in practice. Cue the Alka Seltzer commercial's music "I can't believe I financed the whole thing!"

Hell, Benny, I don't waste my time on this forum trolling the V8 board trying to prop up my self esteem bashing other people. I do look at the V8 board but it's always for info and actually enjoy reading what people are doing with their rides.. Personally I have no right to ANY response at all I don't own a V8 so I shut the f**k up. Why don't you do the same? I enjoy what I have and can afford. Why is it some of you GT guys just can't provide some useful feedback instead of the same old **** time after time. Why waste the bandwidth???

Yeah man you really need to chill with trashing the V6 calling it crap.....You have a G8 too and just because you have a 6.0 and we have a 3.6 it does not matter , the looks are the same....In the long run they are both made by the same company it does not matter if you have a V8 and i have a V6 and just because you have a V8 does not give you the right to call a "G8" V6 "Crap" because really your calling your car crap too!!!!!!!

:bs: :banghead:

WTF? Just ten years ago very few cars had more power than that. We managed to drive hard and have fun then.

With a TCM tune, 256 hp is way more than enough to lay rubber.

I wish people would stop ragging on the V6 G8. It's a great full-size sedan with more of a driver's character than the competition. And by historical standards it's very fast.

Driving "fun" is a very subjective thing. That being said, there are many things that go into making it "fun" other than just HP. As was said, the car has great handling for it's size and driving dynamics that most cars that size would love to have. I haven't driven one, although I have driven an LTZ Malibu which I think has basically the same engine and I think you could have "fun" with that car if you wanted to. It had very nice pick up compared to the Sonata that we were also considering for my wife at the time.

The same thing happens at the Cadillac forums. STS-V owners trash talk the V8 owners and the v8 owners trash talk the v6 owners...well the non-di v6 owners that is. I had a G8 v6 loaner car and though it was not as exciting to drive a the V8 it had the same looks and performed pretty well. yes 256 hp is alot for cars back in the days but these days thats entry level so of course the more powerful guys are gonna think they are better. Anyway people are gonna think what they want.

I have a STS-V and have already been told how my car is barely faster than their stock V8s and if I owned a Srt8 they would be telling me the same thing. I guess what I am saying is everybody feels their car is better so who cares?
