menace 04-09-2008, 07:05 PM Drive.com.au has tested Holden's biggest rival the "Ford Falcon"
I can't seem to directly link it, but visit www.drive.com.au
IMHO it's looks pretty good.

The Falcon XR6 Turbo is king for the moment.

dodson914 04-09-2008, 07:07 PM I like the exterior styling of the G8 better.
menace 04-10-2008, 01:26 AM Yeah i like both actually.
I didn't post any of the 5.4L V8 Falcon times because it's a POS.
The turbo 6 is 1.2 seconds quicker 0-62mph...
superNoid 04-10-2008, 10:14 AM I wish Ford would wise up and bring this to the states. It would fuel the market, competition and only help produce better cars for consumers here.
I hate that the average consumer here wants a 4dr 4 cyl slushbox.
macgto 04-10-2008, 02:18 PM Looks suspiciously similar to the 2010 Taurus.

G8>550i 04-10-2008, 03:57 PM Don't figure this:
<Less impressive is the 5.4-litre V8 reserved for the Falcon XR8.
While the V8 may be the most powerful in the FG Falcon range, it’s not the fastest, mainly because it doesn’t have the low-range torque of the ‘rival’ Turbo engine.
Our testing showed the Falcon XR8 managed just 6.3 seconds to 100km/h. >
A turbo with more grunt torque than a V8? Is Ford still using the flathead from the 1930s down under? Most turbos are slow off the line.
Wouldn't the Falcon make a great Taurus. :) It was what the new Tauras should have been to begain with.

Call it the Falcon. I like it better than Taurus. And the Taurus name has recent baggage. The Falcon name is only remembered by old timers as the donor chassis for the Mustang.
menace 04-16-2008, 05:01 PM Ford Performance Vehicles has just released same more figures for the FPV F6 Falcon...
Turbo 4.0L straight-six engine now producing 416 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque at just 1,950 rpm

Holden needs a Turbo V6 sooner than later...
:barf::barf::barf::barf::barf:
menace 04-17-2008, 02:57 AM Yeah i don't like the FPV front end...
But an Aussie Sedan that does the 0-100km well under 5 secs is very tempting...
Not to me.........it has to have many things to get my interest.
A combination of style, performance, comfort, reliabilty and value for money. I am sure the Ford meets most of those requirements, but the looks don't send my blood rushing to the most important part of the males anatomy.................no sale.
TriShield 04-19-2008, 02:44 PM I would have an XR6T over any Holden any day. It's a ripper.
It's really a shame Ford isn't offering this car in the US.
oxidizr 04-20-2008, 01:50 AM Looks like the Volvo designers are chatting with the Ford guys on the non-us market cars.
_G8GT_ 04-24-2008, 05:10 PM thats a nice lookin car

wrong. it matters what size turbo and the tuning they use
Ford execs went over to Aus recently to test out the straight six turbo because they are thinking of replacing it with the new TT 3.5 V6 "EcoBoost"
i think the straight six is better but im sure the TT 3.5 has more potential...
i like the front end of the FPV's....its something that definitely stands out(Alice Cooper)
rumor has it Ford might make the Falcon global around 2012 MY with its new GRWD platform...i hope they do
i like the G8's looks a little better but i like the Falcon's drivetrain more

it's not a V6, it's an Inline 6 cylinder
unless you want Holden to make a V6 turbo instead

Hmmmmm, looks like a bottom feeder. Like a carp. :p
Mach 5 06-01-2008, 11:18 PM Long live the Holden vs Ford battle. Makes for some great cars and racing! Although I have to say the F6 looks like it's been binge drinking. ;) Might grow on me in time, but I think Holden defilitley has a much better design at the moment.

Kind of almost has a Lexus flavor to it, I think it might grow on me...We won't be seeing it in the states anytime soon.
G8 Ray 06-02-2008, 06:25 AM I like the look of the Falcon. Too bad Ford isn't selling any cars. It would be nice to see the GTDI Duratec 3.5 in any car at this point. Are they even offering any 3.5 in the Fusion? GM has had it since at least 05.

An inline six has quite a few advantages, especially when turbocharging it, over a V6. The best one, is based on space. There is a LOT more space to stuff the turbo in. The second, is having ALL the exhaust ports on one side, which makes the piping to the turbo shorter (better efficiency, better spool time).
However, the inline six SUCKS on gas. Its an old motor.
Also, with an automatic, that turbo probably is capable of spooling REAL quick off the line.

You can trace the history of the Ford Aus 6 back a long way, but it has been continually updated of the years. In terms of detailed design and its components, it is an up to date engine. It simply shares some basic proportions, like distance between bore centers, with earlier engines.

Still sucks on gas, for its displacement.
SS Enforcer 07-01-2008, 12:13 PM The Ford 6 here is a very good motor and almost indestructable. Sure it's a bit thirsty but it's also very reliable and pulls like a freight train even in N/A guise. The introduction of VVT to these motors had a huge effect on their power output.
As much as I like my V8's i nearly bought a F6 last time out car shopping .... maybe next time.
cheers
MtbDoc 10-30-2008, 06:04 PM Nah...just call up Martin and get yourself fitted w/ a GenTT for your Holden! Trust me, the GTO is AWESOME set up with it.
travs_g8gt 04-28-2009, 08:35 AM I'm sure it is fast, but I think the VE is a way better looking car.
