Just got my Red GT G8 this week and before I could get a mile from the dealer found the first issue. My rear view mirror vibrates to the point you can not use it to see vehicles behind you.

Had it to the dealer today and they see it but compared it to another G8 with sunroof and it did not experience the same issue.

Dealer tried swapping the mirror which did not resolve it and then they tried swapping the wind shield and it also did not fix the issue.

They have a call in to Tech Support but do not have a solution yet. Has anyone out there experienced this issue? Has your dealer found a solution?

You let them swap the windshield on your brand new car?

Sorry, not the "windshield" but a wind shield that pops up when the sunroof is open. It is the plastic lid that redirects air when roof is open.

I am heading down now to pick it up. The matter is still unresolved.

They feel the shield is opening too much. Ticket opened with GM Tech Support.

I have a sunroof and have not experienced the vibration. Just another data point.

Yes, I am having the same issue with the vibration. At about 40+ mph and the roof wide open, you can't even see out the RV mirror. Let us know how they resolve it, cuz I'll be sitting at my dealer's door to get the same thing done.

I haven't experienced any mirror vibrations at all, although I do get a little of that thumping sound around 45 -50 MPH.

Why would you NOT want a sunroof? Are you a Vampire or something? :D

At every opportunity I can, I have mine open. I can't imagine a car without it (sans the GTO as it doesn't come as an OEM option).

What's wrong with a sunroof? I don't have any issues like the OP does.

Mine vibrates with the roof open. Nothing horrible.

1. They're ugly. Nothing is sleaker then an un-interupted hardtop roof line.
2. They reduce headroom
3. However #2 isn't that much of a factor since your wallet is so much thinner from buying that silly option.

However they're good for spotting flying cops. I got a ticket from a flying pig but it was far less then the cost of a sunroof.

1. thats an opinion. On dark colors, no one is the wiser. And plenty is sleeker than an uninterrupted hardtop.

2. In this car, hardly noticeable. I am 6'1" and I didn't have any trouble.

3. so funny. slap thigh!! After you have already spent $31,000 on the car, that $900 option is not making any larger of a dent.

The only plausible reason for NOT having a sunroof, aside from ones own cosmetic preferences, is that the roof will add weight, raising the car's center of gravity. Hardly relevant in this car.

The benefits of having the roof open on a nice sunny say outweigh the negatives IMO. Sure the roof isn't as sleek but it's not like it sticks out that bad really. As far as headroom, I have not had a complaint yet from anyone that has been in the car. I like open air motoring so its something I like, for you this obviously isn't the case.

I still haven't had any vibration with the sunroof open. What I did findout yesterday on the way home though, is that if you have the rear windows all the way down and front windows and sunroof closed @ 70mph the drumming sound feels like it is going to pull your eardrums out :)

Happy to report that after 2 weeks and 2300 miles back and forth to Beantown, that my rearview vibration has just about disappeared.

Nothing has changed except the mileage. Cruising up route 81 at speeds averaging 75-80mph with the sunroof fully open the crazy vibration I had seen in the first day was almost completely gone.

Side note: 25.6 mpg highway - much better than my '04 GTP

Best reason I found for buying the sunroof is that my G8 is the only one in a 100 mile radius (still is), it was the only car my dealer could get, and it was my only choice. No regrets!

Agree. Very typical.

With regard to the comments made about the limited headroom from having a sunroof...I didn't have any problems fitting in the G8 at 6'5 1/2"...and that's in the back seat as well. Just my observation.

Hi there - Just picked mine up a few weeks back and the sunroof vibration was horrible....At speeds above 50mph, the whole upper deck would vibrate so much that the rear view mirror vibrated and made me sick when I looked in it. I work for GM and so I contacted the Brand Quality Manager. At the dealer they came up with a quick fix (hope its not the final fix). They ended up using double sided tape to attach 3 rectangular wheel weights ( the kind they use to balace your tires) to the flimsy plastic wind shield piece. That weighed it done enough that it got rid of the vibration.

I am also looking into a huge annoying rattle around the pass door speaker area. Not to mention the aweful engine tick at startup AND idle....

I have also heard of the car dying from a crimped fuel pipe in the tank that draws fuel from one side of the tank to the other.

Later.....

The crimped fuel line is news to me. Would be interested to hear more about that.

I have that same freaking rattle. If you find a fix or find out what it is please tell me. I went to the dealer about it but they said it could be all day before they found it. I didn't have time to wait so I had them fix my other stuff and said I'd come back if it got worse. If I knew what it was it would make it a much quicker trip.

Hopefully, they get y'all new pieces for the sun roofs.

I guess I'll weigh-in on sunroofs too. I don't like them at all. Less clearance is pretty much a moot point in this car. But here are my reasons for NOT getting a sunroof:

1) I like the sunglass cubby that you lose with a sunroof.
2) Having the sunroof open is loud and annoying, windows open provide just as much if not more air flow anyway.
3) I don't like the sun beating down on me when a roof is open. What's the point of being WARMER when the roof is open for air circulation?
4) Living in Michigan provides 5, maybe 6 months of decent weather in which to even take advantage of the sunroof.
5) I do, personally, like the look of an "unbroken" roofline.

Some of these are opinions, I realize, but I hardly ever used the 2 sunroofs I've had on other cars so why bother paying for it?

I just see no advantage to having one, besides the ability to see air cops, but those aren't used much around here at all anyway.

My sunroof panel vibrates with the music along with the rear view mirror. It's not bad just kind of annoying. It's not to the point were I can't see in the mirror though. I just hear the sunroof control buzzing with music

Test drove a GT with a sunroof and it had the worst drumming sound when open that I've ever heard. I've always had and loved sunroofs, but specifically got my G8 without one because of the horrible noise I had during my test drive.

I'm sure I could have put that plastic piece in front of it to eleviate the noise, but think those look like crap.

yeah and the drumming noise is really bad when the back window is open. my ears were poppin'! It was actually really funny though. Me and two friends one in the passanger one in the back. Both of us in the front were like OMG WTF lol:laugh: Gotta laugh sometimes

That drumming noise actually happened in my 07 silverado when only one of the back windows were open (crew cab)...

it was weird... the first time i heard it i thought it was the AFM turning on LOL....(not really)

Here are some pics of how they fixed my sunroof - 3 wheel weights, double sided tape and some black spray paint. Problem solved.

I first noticed it on my ride home (350 miles) from the dealership.

The funny/sad thing is that if you reach up and pull the deflector down with your hand, the vibration (very low frequency bass sound or pressure) goes away.

It appears that when the deflector is up it actually causes the problem. :(

Whoever designed it and approved the design was :drink:

The fix is to keep the deflector from going up. It's to bad that it wasn't worked out by GM/Holden since it obviously costs them money to put the deflector on the car and then more money to deal with the complaints & warranty issues. :slap:

Looks like I will be adding wheel weights to my sunroof until there is a real fix.

Has anyone experienced a weird engine whine when u hit about 70?? I get it pretty bad and it stops at around 80. if u let up on the accelerator, it stops but when u give it gas again, it continues . Gonna have my dealer check it out. Very Annoying...

I had the drumming sound when I opened my sunroof but kept all the windows closed, come to find out the headliner parts were not secured all the way up, I pushed on them at certain points and felt the Velcro that I assume was factory placed attach and kept it up. Now the drumming noise is gone but I now have the rear view mirror vibration. Guess I will use the wheel weight option to until a warranty fix comes around, just hope they stay seeing I live in Las Vegas and double sided tape will melt in this heat.
