: 5000-7000 GXP to be built
SRG963 04-11-2008, 06:14 PM Hey guys, found this over at camaro5 and don't know if it's already been posted, but just in case.
.....The Camaro SS will be the bad-ass brother to the G8 GXP LS3 (Their momma's name is Zeta). They are only building 5000-7000 GXP's because this small number will not greatly impact GM's CAFE.
Camaro SS V-8 = LS3 Manual six-speed available, no AFM, and sold in limited numbers same as G8 GXP. (Don't get me wrong I hope the LS3 is the entry level V8 engine)
What do you think? Will there be enough to go around for the :pimp:'s?
Russo 04-11-2008, 06:19 PM i still require a 4 door since it will be my only car, but i'm sure GM learned it's lesson from the GTO

Seems like a lot if they are gong to charge $40K (w GG tax).
Of course, first they ought to get my G8GT to the dealer.
40k for a pontiac are you out of your mind? I don't care what that car has I can think of 5 other cars i would get for that money that would have a better resale/depreciation.
chevcat 04-12-2008, 03:30 PM Remember the GXP is basically a HSV Clubsport R8 which is
great car so even at $40K it will be great bang for the buck, checkout the HSV website..........
TriShield 04-12-2008, 05:05 PM Actually the GXP is a Commodore with an LS3 and HSV's seats, not an actual HSV car.
OilfieldSS 04-12-2008, 05:53 PM any preliminary GXP MPG numbers? just curious since it looks like it won't have AFM, don't bite my head off with the "you don't buy this car for the gas mileage" argument.

I can think of none
Solrac 04-13-2008, 01:38 AM lol, who cares about resale...
this is one car u wont ever want to get rid of :P

hey! if you cant afford it, go buy a car you can afford.:soapbox:

Don't forget the big Brembo brakes. :D Power, braking, & seats are usually the biggest complaints about most cars. Other than price.
BBBBGXP 04-13-2008, 05:27 PM 5000-7000 per year, pretty exclusive. $40K sticker sounds about right. That is not a lot to pay for a car that rare, as long as its worth it and all the promised goodies live up to the hype! People may think that is a lot to pay, but you pay over $25K for a VW Bug, $23k for a Corolla, and ask someone about the price of a new pickup truck or SUV! The closest BMW is what $55K? So what's the problem here?

$37k - $40k sounds about right. No reason to cheap-out on suspension, brakes, seats, etc, especially with the new powerhouses on the block, like the C63, IS-F, and M3.
need4spd 04-13-2008, 10:25 PM don't forget the FE3 suspension (vs the GT and base FE2)
GregKJ 04-13-2008, 10:44 PM I'd like to see less than 10k or so produced per year. Exclusivity is cool.
SRG963... Who's the source of the info? Is it reliable or just another typical forum speculation?

Then you should go on those car boards and talk about those and not post on a board about the G8.

Supposedly it came from inside GM, but y'all know how that goes.

I agree. There's still a part of me that wants a gxp just so in a couple years, I'm not 1 of a million g8s cruising the streets.
People will say, woah.... that's a gxp. Holy ****, you don't see one of those everyday.
spd98 04-14-2008, 01:13 PM 5-7k production should be about right. That would put them on par with the GTO's rarity. considering that these will more than likely be produced 6-7 years verses the 3 for the gto.
I love when people talk resale. Look at the GTO's thier prices are now starting to go up! I had an 06 that was totaled in January (idiots running stop signs!) Anyway I was paid exactly 200 less than I paid for it out the door! Most cars in that range would loose 5-6k off sticker in a year. The build quality of these cars will speak for itself. I know first hand how tough they are!

As for me I'm probly getting a c6. The wife however will be getting a g8!
sccaGTO 04-14-2008, 06:35 PM Hey spd98, that will buff out. :gr_jest:
AmpedG8 04-14-2008, 08:09 PM I can think of none
I was thinking of a few cars but seeing the latest MSRPs they are in a higher price range than the GXP. The Audi S4 and S5 are pushing 50k while the Lexus IS-F, Cadillac CTS-V, and BMW M3 are another 10 to 20k. :eek2:
However, a base C6 coupe can be had for the low 40s and only the upper 40s for a loaded one. :yumyum:
I still believe it's a death sentence for Pontiac and the GXP if they have to advertise it with a base MSRP of 40,XXX. Didn't they try that with the Bonneville GXP a few years back?
Habibus 04-15-2008, 10:10 AM I don't see why they wouldn't price the GXP at 35,000. 10K more for an engine upgrade and brake upgrade is ridiculous.

... and suspension upgrade, and front facia upgrade, and rear facia upgrade, and interior upgrade, and rear gear upgrade, and manual transmission option.....
Let alone, we STILL DON'T KNOW what MSRP is going to be, so all this speculation keeps flying around and getting people all worked up. Maybe it will be priced at $35k, then it's the deal of the friggin' century. Maybe it will be priced at $38k w/o options, plus gas guzzler tax, then it ends up at the $42k-$44k mark on par w/ SRT8s. Until GM announces the offical price, I'm planning for the worst, and expecting a $40k tag to show up. Any less, and bonus. Even with or more than, then that is what I expected and it's not a shock to the system. Regardless of what badge is on the sheetmetal/plastic, be it Arrowhead, Bowtie, Triple Shield, whatever, it's going to be one sick puppy!!

I still believe we will be right around $40K with GG Tax. Remember, the G8 will supposedly only have three options. One is the color. Two is the tranny (manual or auto). And three is with or without sunroof. Everything else is supposedly included.

SPARKYBOY5X8 04-16-2008, 06:00 AM M6 tranny only the first year. And still not enough power to throw all that extra weight around .

Source? first year?
sccaGTO 04-16-2008, 06:12 AM M6 tranny only the first year. And still not enough power to throw all that extra weight around .
Considering that they are not saying if a MT will go in the GT at all, the M6 option will more than likely be around as long as a GXP model is in production. The M6 cars will have to sit forever for GM to discontinue it.
No ConeSS 04-16-2008, 08:49 AM ... And still not enough power to throw all that extra weight around .
I don't know what you are used to driving, but with only 260hp/330tq, my '96 Impala SS had "enough power to throw all that extra weight around". Sure, it didn't break any records, but you couldn't wipe that damn smile off my face for quite some time after driving it. Now, this GXP is going to be smaller, lighter, more powerful.... oh, believe me.... it will have enough power to throw it around, and still have some left.
DollarBill 04-16-2008, 12:39 PM I don't see why they wouldn't price the GXP at 35,000. 10K more for an engine upgrade and brake upgrade is ridiculous.
It better have more add on's than that! This is a GXP!!! Every other GXP have more than their GT or base counterpart!!!
Everyone keeps saying that all of those options will make the price rise. Clearly you all havent known pontiac for very long. Look at the bonneville GXP. Fully loaded, sunroof, onstar, HUD, HIDs, 8-way power seats, etc. and it ran at over 35k! And the northstar was a pretty expensive engine! The GP had similiar options and it ran at over 30k! So wuts the problem with the G8having all those options for the GXP! Nothing!! Oh yeah, and a better DIC would be good, not just performance info like volts, oil, and all that mess!
And for heavens sakes, make the GXP badges bigger! Its like the G8 is saying its embarassed to be a GXP!
LSxcellent 04-16-2008, 01:03 PM M6 tranny only the first year. And still not enough power to throw all that extra weight around .
Clearly you have never driven anything with any real power in your life...
400hp/400lbft??? That will move a BATTLESHIP around pretty well, the GXP is going to move like a bat out of hell!
Did you see the numbers? 0-60 in 4.7sec? Go look that up and see how many cars can beat it... now look at their price-tags.
This is going to be one of the fastest cars for the money on the planet.

Just like any other GM RWD V8
Maplehawk 04-16-2008, 07:36 PM I can hear it now "The most powerful car under $40,000"

Smartly phrased. We are seeing horsepower inflation across the board right now, even a measly 335i is going for mid to high forties. If the GXP comes out at $35k, you probably don't want it, because it doesn't have all the goodies it needs to be a true performance car.
