I was reading a Mustang Tuner magazine at work & came across an ad for something called a Water/Methanol injection kit. The setup itself looked quite simple & I was wondering first and foremost what is it's purpose, are they expensive, does it require engine upgrades & lastly is it easy to setup & worth it?

Check out this post from a subaru forum, it has some good info:

Water Meth is normally used for Forced Induction applications to reduce the intake temperature during high boost. This improved hp/tq numbers without damaging your engine (detonation). This kit is recommended for all the S/Cer owners.

Its big with GTI owners (Which I used to be) and very simple, works off of vacuum-boost. The methanol also helps with carbon buildup and keeps the oil cleaner (because of the carbon).

I have not considered it for N/A performance.

That said, I have not read about any negatives associated with Methanol injection except for maybe where to locate the tank (or use the washer tank) and remembering to refill it.

On the 2.0. FSI (Veedub turbo direct injection, the ls motor of the 4 cylinder world as far as power is concerned). people have seen 30whp on stock motors from methanol.

If I ever throw a Maggy supercharger on my GXP I will run Methanol for sure.

ya I've never heard of anyone doing it on a N/A, I just assumed you had a supercharger.

its really designed for boost applications. We have seen gains of 30+ rwhp with a simple water/meth kit.

Keep an eye out for next months GM High Tech Performance magazine. There will be an article with a MagnaCharged G8 that we did a few weeks ago, where we installed and water/meth kit.

If anybody has any questions, just drop me a line

Rule number 1 of 1 when it comes to meth injection......

DO NOT RUN OUT OF METH.......EVAR

You will be buying a new engine!

Its a cheap, simple way to keep the engine going for a few more miles when you force induction your engine. Cools the heads and raises the oct level IIRC~

Well, I have always heard of running a standard tune with the Meth injection, if it runs out, you just lose power. I would not tune the car to the meht, just let the meth do its job.

I may not know much about this system but I highly doubt that simply running out of h2o/methanol will blow your engine, you just won't get the cooling or boost effect.

WOW... I should look into this?

So it would not help a naturally aspirated engine? Would it damage a naturally aspirated engine? Thanks

What does meth cost to replace once you use it up?

I'm using a stage2 snow performance kit with a 25/75 mix (water/meth) and i was able to make 575rwhp @ 9psi. I have a D1SC procharger with 3.70" pulley and 1 7/8" kooks headers with catted x-pipe, the rest is stock.
