: Front Spoiler too low?

Hi everyone, I am a new member here and I just picked up a Liquid Red G8 GT. I absolutely love the car, but I am concerned about cracking the front spoiler on speed bumps and whatnot as my work is riddled with them. Does anyone else have this issue/concern?

We've got some pretty tall speed bumps coming off base and I haven't had a problem.

Curbs and steep driveways, on the other hand, are the devil. I have to be careful getting in and out of my driveway or the valence will drag slightly.

Even normal sized parking curbs are to be avoided. That's not a big problem as long as you keep it in the back of your mind to park short in the parking places. This isn't a long enough car to have to worry about sticking out of the spot so there's no real reason to pull in far enough to risk damage.

I almost lost mine on the first day of ownership. Speed bumps are not so bad, but parking bumpers can be deceptive, especially in hot areas where front wheels of previous cars have caused an indentation in the blacktop, thereby lowering the front of the car. On a flat surface, you can clear an 8" bumper, but not by much. I am always very careful now pulling into parking spaces. I think the folks who are actually lowering this car are in for a recurring high dollar gotcha!!!

If you just accelerate at the Speed Bumps, the spoiler will lift more than enough to clear them.

SO WILL THE CAR! I would heed the curb stop message. This front clip is as low as the GTO, and I just about pulled mine completely off last year, pulling back out of a space. Luckily, the clips released without damage and we were able to pop it back together, once we figured out what to do. Have no idea if G8 will repair as easily, but hope so.

Ha, yeah, it will lift the front end for just a second. What are you going to do once the rear wheels meet the speedbump?

Rear clearance is higher than front. I never run my front end anywhere NEAR a parking curb. When exiting driveways with a dip, cross at an angle and you won't drag the front spoiler, and do it slowly.

:iagree: Blue's got the right idea here. My GTP, though it's not low really at all, I take the entrance and exit from my apartments at a 30* or greater angle usually just to make sure I don't rub the front end. Has happened a couple times and I'm a quick study when I don't want my front end falling off prematurely. :D

When I picked up my G8 I talked to another owner who already damaged his front spoiler from a parking curb. It wasn't the actual curb but was the bolt heads that were a couple inches higher then the curb. He went over them fine but when he backed up they got caught on his spoiler. I don't think it ripped off but it was probably damaged or scratched.

Beware!!

The front end is lower than my firebird I think. I have noticed that if I was to pull too far into a spot I would have done quite a bit of damage. I just have to pay attention thats all.

Happy to help. It's always good (and cheaper) to learn from someone else's mistakes.:D

My Grand Prix has a special edition front lip that hangs lower than the G8. It is like stabbing yourself in the chest everytime you scrape the bottom of that thing on something. I've only bumped the front once or twice, but the bottom will often scrape on the ground when pulling into or out of a steep driveway. Need to get some hydraulics to lift that puppy :p

I allways backed into spaces with my GTO to make certain I didnt end up yanking of the front bumper cover on a parking stop.

Heard that horror story one too many times........
