Was wondering if gearbox whine in first was normal for this car, mine is quite noticeable but this is my first GM six speed so nothing to compare it against?

yes, there is a whine but nothing different than past GM auto's I've had... I guess it doesn't bother me at all...

OK so nothing to worry about thanks , this sure is a great car with power to spare. Working my way through the first tank 16.8 mpg (DIC)so far on mixed driving.

I agree. In M mode 1st & 2nd sound just like a manual tranny. If you pop it into 1st at about 30-40 mph, the rev matching and whine will fool anyone.
