: Upgraded Interior (if you live in China)
SRG963 04-15-2008, 05:25 PM Would you like a better interior on the G8? This is what our cousin in China is getting.

^ Buick Interior...
Pontiac != Buick. :D
Rob Moser 04-15-2008, 06:44 PM We were in China last fall. VERY surprised at the vehicles on the road. Besides the bicycles, we saw lots of BMW's including some 650 conv's. Traffic was unbelieveable, though I think I could drive in Beijing, but no where else. Have pic's of the big Buicks and Caddy long wheelbase STS. Don't understand why they don't build them for this market as they would sell better than what's currently offered. As for Chinese, we felt very secure. Everyone was friendly to us, especially kids. THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE IN CHINA THAT SPEAK OR ARE LEARNING ENGLISH THAN SPEAK IT IN USA.
As for G8, the brushed aluminum looking plastic horizontal strips on the dash will certainly be offered in wood or wood look as they can be replaced in about 15 sec. Has to be ways to add other wood or graphite panels. Certainly wish for a neutral/beige interior, but am lovin the car as is! After 60 new cars, this is near the top and definitely is a "best value" . People in FL are starting to notice and they are selling faster than I expected.
bracketracer 04-16-2008, 04:14 PM I wish GM would offer a light tan (taupe, tan, beige, whatever!) interior like this on the G8 too. Onyx or Onyx/Red just isn't enough to choose from. If Holden offers a lighter option, there is no good reason not to offer one on the G8 too! Come on GM, offer it, and many of us will buy it!
Looks nice! did anyone else catch the window switches on the armrest?

Yes, and the Nav system is positioned HIGH in the dash. A variation of this interior should have been in the G8. It looks to be better suited for our market. I am guessing that this would have caused manufacturing difficulties in the Holden plant, but no problem for Buick since I believe that Buick will be built in China.

ChipI am sure it will be built in China as there is a 100% import tax on cars, that is why so many have set up shop in China including BMW and Audi (and Shanghai GM)
BBBBGXP 04-16-2008, 10:49 PM And I'm sure everyone noticed there is not a stupid hole leading to the trunk when the rear armrest is down. That little cover probably cost them $2.00 each, way too much for a Pontiac!
TriShield 04-17-2008, 12:57 AM That interior is unique to China using Chinese parts from Chinese suppliers. It was designed by GM Shanghai and Holden for that market only. They are also paying a whole lot more for the car than we are paying for the G8.

Foreign automakers are required by law to partner with a Chinese automaker to sell cars. The Chinese partner is responsible for assembling the cars from knock down kits or domestically sourced parts for their market. These Chinese automakers are also getting all their partner's engineering and design for free.
neelnug 04-17-2008, 07:09 AM Wow. That is a Buick that people in the US might actually WANT to buy!
chiefpontiac 04-17-2008, 07:24 AM And it would not surprise me if they actually get a chance to buy Chinese-built Buicks here. Better chance of that than an Oshawa-built rwd Impala. :slap:
First thing my wife asked, since we are getting red, is if the interior came in tan like our 97 GP did. :whine:

New Buicks are awesome cars. My wife has an Enclave on order...it has got an Escalade level of interior refinement yet costs about $25-30K less.
That Chinese Park Avenue doesn't offer the V8 though.
If you could get the V8, I'd love to have one.
G8>550i 04-17-2008, 11:17 AM They would need to redo the back end, however, it screams "Impala"

It might be a little while extra... that plant is about to go on strike. :(

Just like the UAW to screw Buick's best product. Let's hope her's got built already.

You know, I have read that a lot of people dont like the window switches on the G8 (and GTO for that matter) being in the center console. I personally prefer it. I guess I am used to it since goat has it, but I like the look of the clean door especially since you have four switches on the drivers door of a four door. That my opinion and Im sticking to it! :driving:
Ryan M 04-27-2008, 04:13 AM Was going to post a thread about this in the lounge but I searched first :)
I must say, if someone could manage to import one of these things and drop a 6L or even 7L in it that would be a nice riding sleeper!
_G8GT_ 04-29-2008, 02:43 PM Oh my, thats gotta be the ugliest version ive seen yet!!! the interior maybe ok but the exterior! ...
