kinda wondering the same thing. i like the air box design of the roto much better, but I can get the K&N for a very good price (around $250). Has anyone gotten any horsepower comparisons done with these two setups?

Roto-Fab hands down, K&N makes crappy cheap sheet metal intakes.

I just bought a new era intake from that other place, used for $170

now I need pink couplers!

the one they're putting out currently is a molded plastic one, just like Rotofab's. My interest is in power and economy. While I am curious to hear opinion, I like numbers more :)

Last I saw everything BUT the elbow going to the throttle body was stamped steel that is coated. Did that change recently?

maybe i need to double check; I thought the 63-series of kits was strictly plastic; it does appear that the "air box" may be stamped steel. Maybe we're both right?

I recently installed my Roto Fab CAI. I love it, sounds great I can tell a difference in power and acceleration. My only problem is that my MPG went down after putting it on.. but that's probably because I like to drive faster now. :)

maybe I'm just being thick skulled here, but I guess its just not getting through to me. I KNOW that everyone seems to like the roto-fab more and I know the roto has a better airbox design. In my case, is the roto-fab worth $100 more than the K&N when we're talking power and mpg? K&N has already put out there that theirs does 10 hp, but nothing on mpg. What does the roto do?

Do you want the answer for rotofab with a tune or without?

When I first put my roto in, I seemed to be running rich and my gas mileage went down. After the tune, I had more power and better gas mileage.

a tune seems to a mute point at the moment; us V6 can't get a tune to my knowledge. I'm looking to see what people have for numbers on the RotoFab CAI on a V6. better means a lot of things to different people; I'm really looking for numbers so we can make a solid comparison.

"also showed gains between 10-18 RWHP over seven runs on the chassis dyno. " right from RotoFab's page.

alright, I admit to missing that note on their website. I'll accept that I sounded like a jerk and apologize for not doing all of my research.

so what I've gathered so far, and I hope I haven't strayed from the OP's questions:

1. both units are quoted to have 10+ hp gain
2. no mpg quotes for either

personally, I like the look of the Rotofab box since it's as complete as you can get and grabs air from down below (possibly colder). when priced about the same, the roto-fab seems to be a better buy.

I heard about 2 MPG. Before the RotoFab I got about 18.6 MPG going to and from work. Now I get between 19 and 22 to and from work depending on my mood. If you don't mind physically modding your car and are not worried about getting water where it shouldn't be you can mod the honeycomb around the light that will give more cold air. I would just go with the RotoFab. I love mine. I have no experience with the K&N but I wouldn't want my CAI any different. Hope that helps.

Everything about the RotoFab looks better - box design, filter size, where the air is drawn from. But, when looking at the photos from the two web sites, the K&N picture clearly shows a plug position on the intake tube and the RotoFab does not. What is it? MAF sensor? And is it just down and out of sight on the RF or not included (needed) with their installation? OK, technically that's three questions. :dunno:

OK - it looks like it is there in your photo. Just outside of the airbox after the second hose clamp. It does not show on their site.
