: Clearly, I Need Back Up Assist

Either my head is up my ass, I unconciously hate my G8, or I'm just getting older and my depth of field problems I've had since a kid are getting worse.

I came ".." that close to really whacking the G8 backing up last night. Had it not been for a dude in a NY Yankees hat who ran up and started beating on my car (ahh, thank you US military, that "whap whap whap" sound from the rear made me instantly mash the brake to the floor) that stopped me from plowing my passenger rear corner into a concrete wall.

".." that close.

I know the harness is there, I know I can get the kit through PFYC for $299 or Crazy Paul for $237 for the rear parking assist. They even come color matched. But I sure as Hell am not drilling holes in the rear bumper. Making this a bigger priority over the spare tire before my ass end becomes a collection of dings.

Phew.

The backup camera solutions work very well. I can accurately get within 1 inch of an obstacle when backing-up. No holes drilled in the bumper (only had to enlarge a hole in the trunk, but that was because of the camera I used).

New Equinox uses a small camera located in the license plate area. Unless you look for it you can even see it! And the image is displayed on the right 1/3rd of the RV mirror and goes away when not in reverse. Pretty cool really!

I am actually more concerned about the low-hanging front end, I'm constantly in fear of banging it into a curb when parking since it's hard to see and sense where the front end is exactly from the driver's seat. Has anyone found a good camera setup for mounting in the front end?

Yep, definitely the way to go. Not as expensive (unless you get the VIM), and works great!

I'm looking at this as my next project. No holes.

The one that I'm using that bolts to the license plate would be good for the front as well. In the rear I'm pulling power from the back-up lights (so it's only on when in-use), but with a front facing camera you'd have to figure something else out.
