Has anyone done any horsepower & torque tuning for the current 6.0 liter engine L76 / L98 for the current VE Commodore?

There is an HP Tuners file but its almost 4MB for a VE .... Vbulletin doesnt like uploads that large.

Can you upload it?

If you have HPtuners (required to view this file) ... it's in their file depository on www.hptuners.com

My Goat Bites: Sounds awesome! I cannot wait to get my G8, this waiting is completly killing me! I've been looking practically daily at the Austrailian LS1 website for all the VE news / mods I can find & they've been doing an awesome job.

I am totally getting a CAI, Tune, and maybe an exhaust system right off the bat.

Then if it's not fast enough I may consider getting a more aggressive cam and possibly headers.

The G8 GT's can't get here fast enough!

I agree, I too am waiting for the day I can place an order. Something like the Thunder Cheater cam and a set of headers will really make this car a beast.

that gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling :gears:

MyGoatBites. I see you on trailvoy also. I am torn between the TBSS and the G8, so I am impatiently waiting. unless I can get a screaming good deal on a TBSS before the G8 arrives. You haven't helped me directly yet but I appreciate your input as well as everyone else's on these forums (carsuperfreak specifically too). I love car people, usually they want to help each other, it's great.

I love the TBSS, my buddy has silver one along with a silver C5 Z06. I love the interior and handling of the TBSS. However, the G8 will surely be faster, handle better and get way better gas mileage all while running on regular fuel. I'd say it's an easy decision unless you need the TBSS specifically to tow. ;)

Actually, I would tow large loads once in a while. My 1968 Chevelle rarely (body shop to paint shop etc.) and a smallish landscape trailer (although I use my Impala for it now so the G8 is no problem, and maybe a couple jetskis.

But I really want it for the following reasons.

1. TBSS is drop dead gorgeous. I am not too hot on the largish lower fog light valence areas on the G8. I can live with the std. Pontiac themed split grill BUT the lower section looks strange to me.

2. It sits a little taller than the G8. I have a 9 month old son and think the car seat would be easier to deal with in a taller vehicle. Not to mention I kind of miss an SUV.

I used to have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 until it had like 115,000 miles and started to need to much stuff. So we traded it in for a 2003 Honda Accord V6 for my wife (awesome car), I switched jobs and got a company car, 2005 Impala. I am going to take the company car allowance in lieu of the lease and think it might be time for an SUV. UNLESS............ we get rid of the Honda (my wife wants a BMW X5, Volvo XC90 or Lexus RX350) and I get the G8. Man if I could only talk her into the TBSS. I'll keep you all updated on the status of our situation.

TBSS's are kick-ass. but if im going to have a Lxx motor, i want a stinkin six speed manual pushing the grit to the pavement. i got hooked on manuals after owning a WS6

Sounds like the TBSS is a better fit for you. Like I said...I love that truck. Have you checked out the Jeep SRT8?

Sorry for the hijack!

Back on topic, I've already got HPTuners and can't wait to unleash the beast!!!

I would not suggest towing with an SRT8/GC. The SRT8/GC isn't that great for cruising around or towing, it's meant for stupid speed, harsh ride, and plush interior loving narcissists.

Has anyone done any horsepower & torque tuning for the current 6.0 liter engine L76 / L98 for the current VE Commodore?

G'Day from Down Under. Just found out about this Forum so thought I'd join up.

I have a 2006 VE SSV Commodore 6 speed manual, lowered suspension, cold air intake (CAI). 20x8.5" Incubus Paranormal rims with Maxxis MAZ-1 255/35/20 tyres. I have also designed, manufactured and installed a twin gauge pod on the dashboard using 52mm Auto Gauge stepper motor gauges with oil pressure and volts.

Mods coming shortly are full exhaust and tune. Currently my car puts out 210rwkw, not sure of the conversion to rwhp. Maybe 280'ish...

I am a member of LS1.com.au in Australia and there are heaps of threads on there about mods to the VE's...

Anyway, hi to all. Good to see a few LS1.com.au members on here too....

Loof forward to helping out about the soon to arrive G8. Been hearing lots about it over here....

One of my friends over here just had a full exhaust system fitted ot his SSV, cold air intake and tune for a net result of 276rwkw (370rwhp).

Stock 6 litre L98's are getting anywhere between 200rwkw (268rwhp) and 230rwkw (308rwhp) depending on the dyno / dyno operator and whether they are auto or manual too.

Was that with headers or just an exhaust?

Pacemaker ceramic coated headers, high flow catalytic converters and custom catback 3" into 2.5" with quad 3.5" straight cut stainless steel tips...

Here are some sound files of the above exhaust, they are large files about 8mb for the outside ones and 2mb for the inside one

Well I just fitted an exhaust and had my car tuned yesterday. Here are the results -

Original Dyno Readout with CAI only - 210 rwkw (281rwhp)

Add exhaust 1 and 3/4" 4 into 1 long headers, 4" hi flow cats and twin 3" stainless catback - 236rwkw (316 rwhp)

Add tune - 256rwkw (343rwhp) and 78Nm of torque increase....

Congrats, how about a clip? :)

I don't mean any disrespect or anything but doesn't that seem somewhat low? shouldn't it be putting down at least 370whp?

jkgmh: Have you ran any 1/4 mile times yet? If so, how fast. I can't wait to take this car to the track and get some numbers.....

That's about the norm for figures over here. I have heard there may be a discrepancy in hp figures here to overseas. My tuner said my engine is a bit lower than usual so it may be closer to 350 / 355 in real terms. Having said that, the car above in the videos I posted was at 254 rwkw (340hp) with the same mods. He has now gone with an over the radiator air intake and mafless tune for about 275rwkw (369hp)

The increase is unreal, the torque delivery and the responsiveness of the throttle. Will try and get a sound clip up over the weekend.

Mike P,

No sorry mate I don't run at the drags but there is a VE with bolt ons only running mids 12's here.

I may be mistaken, but would the VE file be something that could even be used to compare what we might see in the G8 GT? The G8 will have DOD and I don't think the VE does. HPT will allow the DOD to be turned off though.
