I've only done 1/8 mile races at Irwindale and really didn't think that it was a long enough distance to make it as exciting as a 1/4 mile race. And these are on Friday nights it seems, which is typically a family night for us.

Still, if there are going to be G8s going on a particular date, I may be up for it. Heck, it may be interesting to see if the 1/8 mile times and speeds I was getting at Fontana during my 1/4 mile runs hold up at the Q. In looking at my slips, the best 1/8 mile time I have is 8.858 and best MPH is 82.21. And it would be cooler as well...hmmm...

Show up to this one and I will show up to the next Fontana. I also prefer 1/4 mile but at least we could practice our launches/RT's.

Yes, I can confirm I will be there along with a buddy who also has a g8 that he will run as well.

should be fun!

and yes a helmet is necessary, however you can rent one for $20 for the night.

thats pretty good compared to the 9.1 best my buddy had last friday. he is stock except for a homemade air intake. he ran about 7 times and only lost once to a turbo skyline by about two cars.

I just hate 1/8 mile tracks. I drive faster harder and farther from a stop light here in town.

Great. Looks like at least four G8s on 8/21, then? I'm hoping they do a better job of prepping the starting line than Fontana does, and maybe since it's night and cooler, I'd like to see some 8.7s and maybe 83 MPH.

I prefer 1/4 mile myself, but without much of a choice in SoCal, it's better than nothing, I suppose. And since it sounds like there'll be a group of G8s, I'm going to give it a go.

sounds like we have a few g8s there. im really wondering what kinds of times the SC tune plus volant is gonna get me. also, it will be the first time im running my g8 so itll be good practice. also, if we show up right on time there are hardly any cars there, so you can get a good run or two in right after you clear tech.

It was my first time out to the track running my g8, and it was a good learning experience. The fifth run was the one that won first for me. If hunter would have stuck around for the trophies, he would have won 1st!
I ran with the traction control on for every run, and i really was having a hard time getting traction on the all seasons with about 30 psi or so. I feel with some drag radials, I could have been more consistently in the lower 9s or higher 8s and they would have really helped with the 60 foot times. It was cool to meet everyone that showed up, it was a great turnout. People were asking if we were some kind of G8 club or something like that, it was pretty funny. They told me that my picture was gonna be on racelegal's website for winning first. All in all, it was a good time!

Finally have some time to post. First off, thanks to Julian for setting this up. It was fun having six G8s representing at the drags. And I'm sure people who didn't before are now taking notice. The G8 is definitely not a car to mess with. I know I didn't lose a single race all night. I easily beat a Mustang Shelby (not sure if he missed shift or if it was his passenger slowing him down), a Mercedes AMG E63, two Chargers (at least one was an R/T and he was the one who asked if I wanted to race him), bunch of rice, and other cars.

My best time was 8.936 with my best trap 80.78 MPH. Here are my slips:

1 1.082 / 2.258 / 8.994 / 80.78
2 0.724 / 2.228 / 8.969 / 80.64
3 0.863 / 2.239 / 9.058 / 79.92
4 0.739 / 2.256 / 9.074 / 80.35
5 0.813 / 2.214 / 8.936 / 80.78
6 0.832 / 2.208 / 9.008 / 80.21
7 0.714 / 2.225 / 9.047 / 80.06
8 0.612 / 2.277 / 9.062 / 80.50
9 0.668 / 2.157 / 9.004 / 79.64

I wasn't used to the different tree at the start, so my R/Ts were awful.

By comparison, my last three runs at Fontana had 1/8 miles times of:

2.127 / 8.833 / 81.76
2.154 / 8.859 / 81.73
2.152 / 8.858 / 81.99

So, there is definitely a difference in the tracks. While I really do prefer 1/4 miles (it seems anticlimactic that I have to shut down when I hit 80 MPH), it was definitely a fun night. It was great to put the hurt on so many cars. :)

Mark your calendars, folks: October 31 is the next Street Legal Drags in Fontana.

Hey for those of you I showed my LIP mod i was going to do, here is a pict.

That looks pretty good. The red stripe on the rims also looks good - I'm usually not a fan of that on most cars but on yours it work's well with the red/onyx interior. Good job!

For any doubters out there the G8 is faster on regular drive w/ the traction control off. I have timeslips to compare the difference 9.0 consistant (sportmode/tc off)best time-8.8/8.9 consistant (on D/tc off)best time.

Interesting - So regular Drive mode ran better times than Sport mode? TC was off and what was your launch RPMs? (I assume you torque braked) Thanks.

i also experienced the same. My times in Sports mode were much slower. 9.3-9.4 in sport. Fastest time in Drive was a 9.0. I am completely stock.

I launched between 1300-1500 w/ sportmode & Drive (TC off).

Rob you are going down this time, I am taking that throphy. What did you have to do once it ended? to know you won, or who won?

BigRob

lol! actually, you raced in the 5000s i believe, so i got that one fair and square! all you have to do is stick around toward the end of the races. they usually hand them out at the end of it all near the trailers. id get into the 3000s with your mods now, im sure you can run some consistent 8.8s. we will see tomorrow!

Like the competition - Damm Hunterswift you will force me into to getting a cam sooner than later... hehehehe

Im sure your car will performe great - One thing I know about the Vector tune & rotofab combo - they have tested the Sh--T out of it and they have it down perfect for that combo.

Hmm, I'm going to need to make this tonight. I want to see how well my car with just the VMS tune stacks up against Hunter's VMS with Roto-Fab. :)

I know that Scott with his VMS + Roto-Fab is only slightly faster than my car at Fontana in the 1/4 mile, so I wonder....I really need to find that 100 Octane...lol

Should be interesting what the difference is in the 1/8 mile - I think the 1/4 is a whole other animal.
