So the guy at the wheel/tire store says a +20mm backspacing will stick out too far, this seems backwards to me? Wouldn't it be tucked in too far?

from what ive seen its +35mm on a 10" wide rim (for the back)....

that setup with a 285/30-20 would put the tire right on the edge of the fender...

and to answer your question about the +20mm its WAY TO MUCH....

heres all the info youll need about offest/backspacing and stuff...

If backspace is greater than the wheel centerline the offset is positive.
^ Statement taken from the web site above.

Our offset is +48 mm. Adding 20 mm's to that would most likely cause tire rub.

But would the 20mm bs wheel be able to be spaced back out to the proper location? I've seen that site and it still looks to me that the 20mm bs would tuck the wheels too much, so adding a spacer would put it back to where in needs to be...

WRONGO - Stockwheel has 48MM offset. A 20MM offset would stick out 28MM. You'd look like a lo-rider!

I think he meant adding 20mm to the already 35 mm positive offset.

So let's say I have a 19x8 with only 20mm, it would be placed 28mm further into the well than stock correct?

it would be closer to the center of the car by 28mm. Remember out offset comes from the centerline of the stock wheel width. If you use a wider wheel subtract half the difference of the stock wheel.
Bear in mind, my math skills were left behind in HS. LOL

This should allow you to figure out whatever specs you want vs the stock specs-

Thanks! I guess the guy at the store was right. For some reason I just thought it would tuck them more vs stick out.

I'm still confused with this whole offset calculation thing.
So let me ask: I was quoted on a package price & the dealer says that the wheels I'm requesting for the front have a +28mm offset, the wheels are 20x8.5 and the tires are 245/35/20..will this fit? I mean not just fit but fit perfectly. Please help because I'm ready to throw down my cash to have them shipped & the last thing I want to find out is that they will not look right.
