"This adapter works with the following Blaupunkt audio/video receivers: St. Louis MP56, Memphis MP66, Melbourne SD27, London MP37, and Kingston MP47."

I didn't know the G8 came with any of these radios?

Going Back to the future, what Blaupunkt radio is in the G8?

"The Interface is compatible for all Blaupunkt aftermarket radios and navigation systems from model year 2002 and up that are equipped with CD changer controls, telephone mute and phone line-in functions. The following Blaupunkt CD players are compatible with the Blaupunkt Bluetooth-/USB-Interface - 023BAHAMAS, 023BERMUD6, 023KINGSTN, 023LONDON, 023MELBOUR, 023MEMMP66, and 023STLMP56."

After digging a little further into the product, it seems to me it will only work if you have an "aftermarket" Blaupunkt stereo. It doesn't seem it will plug into the G8's stereo at all.

Is there anyone on the forum, that can check the radio part numbers for model years '08 and '09?
Perhaps the difference is only programming and the interface.

Actually, a lot of vehicle manufacturers are making it so you can not take out the factory head unit and replace it with an aftermarket one. But, there is an option: Get a factory system enhancer like one of these http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Group/ProductMenu.aspx?g=302950

This way, you can add on amps, speakers etc, yet still maintain the factory look. Its what I plan on doing.

Why is everyone so hung up on Bluetooth? Several studies have shown that talking on the phone while driving is the same as driving under the influence.

Before I bought the G8 i had a Hummer H3 in which I installed the Pioneer Avic Z2. Amazing Navi head unit. I added blue tooth to it and it really does help. I don't ever have to touch anything or even take my eyes off of the road. I just told it who to call and it did it. Done. A little bit safer and different process than driving while holding a phone up to your ear.

Because it gives me my hand back. I can't stand holding my phone while I drive. I know using a phone while driving is distracting but my conversations last 30 seconds usually. Quick answer type things. You cannot compare it to being under the influence because you can't hang your drunk up when you are done using it.

I agree... bluetooth is essential now. Granted I have my bluetooth headset and although i like it i find that half the time i go to use it it's dead. I was in my friends Maxima and next thing I knew the car was ringing, nothing to turn on, it just enabled bluetooth once the paired phone was in range.

I really wanted Nav also but I can deal without it... bluetooth i can't.

It is already illegal in some places to talk on a cell phone while driving (chicago), it is also illegal for teens under 18 to do so statewide. This will probably be the case everywhere in a short period of time. So bluetooth may be an option u can't do without in a few years.

Not only is it for phone conversation. It will work with other Bluetooth devices, like MP3 players (iPhone).

I'm outside sales/applications. I can spend hours in my car going to customers. I too get tired holding the phone while driving. While I have a blue tooth headset, it is not the most comfortable thing to wear.
As far as talking on the phone while driving, I'm a better driver than a drunk. When I'm in traffic, the other party needs to be patient until I can get back to the conversation. I also may say, " can you repeat that?"

we are currently working on integrating Holden factory bluetooth into G8. We had successfully tested overriding Onstar, now we are looking into having them work together. We might have to have additional speaker if we are not successful with combininig onstar and bluetooth outputs. If everything works out, buttons on the steering wheel will be reassigned to bluetooth and for onstar you would use buttons on the mirror.

Now thst sounds great!!!:hail:

I work with people who enjoy wearing a piece of plastic in their ear all day, and their bluetooth works just fine. And did I mention, Crown Vic's don't offer blue tooth???

What's the big deal about the car not having it?? I guess you don't use the phone when you get out of the car??

Like i said I do have a headset and it works fine when it's charged but sometimes it's not. Having bluetooth in the car is one less thing to worry about. By no means is it a deal breaker for the car, just saying it's a convenience I would like.

Truth is i hate talking on the phone, but with the experience of every driver being on the phone in LA and driving like idiots, and the headset law going into effect it would be nice to have.

Great info on the mod Monaro@JHP... it wouldn't really matter to me if both worked or not because i seriously doubt i will ever use On Star.

Definitely a trend I do not understand.

Typically, when you have a growth in your ear, it is something to be removed (surgically, if need be) :D

I definitely like the idea of using the buttons on the wheel for this, would it be cheaper (no speaker) to just completely override onstar for someone that doesnt plan on using it?

Gal on cell phone blew through red light this afternoon missing the nose of our GT by inches. I don't care if it is blue tooth, headset or handheld, too many people are too stupid to talk and drive. The frigging GPS's in the phones should determine it is moving and shut down!

Anyway, I'm looking for answers on this bluetooth thing. I just bought my wife an 09 GT and low and behold no bluetooth. I'd like to get it added for her, but in doing so I want it to work as close to "factory" as possible.

If anyone's got an update I'd love to hear it.

FYI: 2009 Pontiac G8's Bluetooth works fine. When a phone gets a call, the call goes right to the Bluetooth function of the car. You simply press the phone button on the steering wheel. You can dial a number. As soon as the phone rings, the Bluetooth picks up the call. It works really well.

I have 250 OnStar minute. I need to start using it...

OVerall, I am very happy with my G8 GT so far.

I'm with you dheizer. I was hit by a lady talking on her phone. Drifted right into my car doing 70 mph and ran me into the swail on the interstae. That is why I got rid of my beloved GP Comp G and bought the G8. Sure insurance fixed it, but it was never, ever the same. I hate people talking and driving. And for those that say they don’t drive like a drunk, that is only because you can’t see yourself driving. I drive 30 miles each way to work on the interstate, and I can spot people talking on their cells all the time. They weave, they slow down and speed up, just like a drunk. Makes me wonder how we ever survived before cell phones. Sorry if I piss people off, but I nearly got killed. That’s my 2 cents.

I have MO plates but I actually took drivers ed up in Chicago. I can testify that MO drivers are the dumbest drivers I've ever been on the road with. Damn P*ssies don't know how to merge. I pretty much drive down 40/61 with my middle finger out my sunroof to let everyone know how much they suck.

This is why cellphones are bad in the car:
In two different experiments, associate professor of psychology Dr. Amit Almor found that planning to speak and speaking put far more demands on the brain’s resources than listening.

“We measured their attention level and found that subjects were four times more distracted while preparing to speak or speaking than when they were listening,” said Almor of the 47 people who participated in the experiment. “People can tune in or out as needed when listening.”http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/05/080531084958.htm

When I'm talking and driving I can feel the loss of concentration on the road. I only try to talk on the phone when the car is stopped.

I would have to say that 60% of women drivers in the morning are on their cell phone here in MO. Many times they're blocking their peripheral view to left and often change lanes without noticing someone is in their blind spot. They definately get the bird.

Ok, help me out here. WHY are you driving in their blind spot? :slap: ( I couldn't resist :gr_jest:)

Cause you have to drive through their blind spot to pass them..... I guess you never pass people nor understand that you have a blind spot to your left.

EDIT: Well, alot of people that don't have their mirrors set up correctly have a blind spot to the left.

It's against the law to hold a phone here in the UK - so bluetooth is a must. My Blaupunkt has it built-in and full controls on the steering wheel. Pretty basic controls actually, but by pressing the phone button, 'Say a command' comes through loud and clear through the Stereo so my Blackberry's voice commands work really well.

Bluetooth for 2008 G8's, Factory Blaupunkt with CD changer. The Costar "Bluestar II". I ordered it Sunday, it arrived today in mail. 10 minutes to install in my office work clothes with NO tools. All steering wheel controls and mirror controls work just as you would expect. The only thing I did not try was Google nav on my Droid Bionic. The single, simplest, and most satisfying upgrade to any vehicle I have owned.
