Just wondering if the G8 is like my Caddy. When you turn the key, do you have to hold it till it starts, or can you relase as soon as you turn the key and the car realizes it's being started and starts.

This is a great feature to have. Prevents flooding the engine and grinding of the starter.

I have no idea! I'll check it out the next time I drive it.

However, if you use remote start you just press the remote until the marker light flashes, then let go, and the car does the rest.

You don't have to step on the gs pedal to start these cars. I've never worried about it with modern fuel injection.

Exactly. In fact, you can confuse 'em if you treat the gas pedal like a carbureted engine during startup.

JPrevents flooding the engine and grinding of the starter.
I don't think it's possible to 'flood' a fuel injected engine...

When I was on a business trip overseas a few years ago my associate and I had a rental Opal something-or-other. He did most all the driving since the car had been rented in his name. We both commented on how the car ran really rough on startup, but after a couple of days I noticed that he was pumping the gas pedal while the car was starting. I advised him to stop it and the rough starts went away.

I don't know if the engine was being fed too much gas, or whether that just confused the ECU. Either way there isn't any reason to touch the pedal on startup.

It is possible to flood a fuel injected engine, and oddly enough the fix is the same as a carbed car. Hold the pedal to the floor and start.

I think is even listed in the G8 owners manual somewhere.

Regardless, you should never had to touch the gas pedal to start an FI car, so really it should never flood in the first place.

:iagree:

I just twist the key real quick and don't worry about holding it. Figured that out by accident a couple weeks ago. Works like a champ.

Thanks for checking this "feature" out guys. Good to hear that it's as easy to start as my current ride.

That auto start really throw me and my wife for a loop.

I swear the car is already running and it doesn't disengage.... but then where's the grinding sound?

It is supposed to prolong ignition switches and lockcylinders. Time will tell.

I didn't know that - tried it today and sure enough it worked.
