I am interested to know why some people would want to buy the V6 G8 and then spend money to add performance mods instead of just buying the GT to begin with. Is it that the mileage is just that much better. Isnt a V6 about $26K and a GT is $30 wont you be spending close to the $4K difference on mods or close enough to just justify buying the GT to begin with? not criticizing just wondering?

It can't be for mileage. I believe the mileage differences are very small like less than 3mpg if that.

I think some people just dont want the power. Or think in their minds that the V6 has better milage. I no theres not much difference in price but if some people just dont want that power and dont need it theres no point payin out another 4k is there.

Personally I would be willing to pay the extra just for the extra looks e.g. door handles, exhausts, rear lighting. all that would cost you aftermarket if you had the V6.

dont forget price gouging dealirships that raise the price 1k - 5k because its a limited production car.

dont forget most of them are fully loaded

also dont forget some people might be young (like me 20yrs old) and being raped by insurance is not fun

Dont underestimate the v6 in this car... its pretty damn fast for hauling just a lil less than 4k lbs

Good point about the insurance.

I cant speak for all insurance companies but I know for a FACT that Allstate insurance quoted me the exact same price for the V6 and GT

And as for the MPG, the V6 EPA is 2mpg better in the city and 1mpg better on the highway.

For the price difference I sure would take the GT and enjoy that extra 100+HP when I felt like it. Im sure the resale will be better on the GT too.

when people say v8 they think gas guzzler, and when gass hits $10/gallon we'll see who has higher resell value, PLUS i think i can tune the car for more mpg right?

Its the insurance like others have said. I mean they look at a V6 and V8 like a ford and lambo. you have a V8 then you need to be able to insure it like i found out being 18 :s
costing ME a LOT!

I was only interested in the V6 until I did some research and found out A, that you can run the V8 on 87 octane and B the gas mileage will be almost the same under normal driving conditions. I haven't looked into insurance yet (since the car isn't in Canada yet:dunno:) but since I have an excellent rating I'm sure that won't matter either.

I'd personally wait for the next series Commodore which will have the 3.6L Direct Injection V6... The current V6 is not bad, but it's thirsty when compared to the 6.0L...

Like I said, ALLSTATE INSURANCE does not charge more for the GT over the V6 so if you are paying too much more for a GT give them a call and see what they quote you.

Well if you can tune the V6 for mpg you can tune the V8 too...

Either way they are both nice cars. V6 twin turbo would be an awesome setup, even the V8 TT...

If its pure muscle or performance you want, why soup up the antiquated stock GT’s V-8? Simply save that 2k + 1-2 k markups dealers want for the GT, buy the base G8 sedan and apply those 4k savings towards a bigger badder 427 n\a bad boy. You then can grow it from there to your hearts content, but you're starting way ahead of the stock GT V-8.

You’ll be replacing the suspension and upgrading the drive train anyway one you top out the stock GT to 500+hp anyway so that’s a wash.

Oh, yeah…about the warranty issue, that gets blown on the stock GT V-8 the minute you add stuff. But the brand new shiny 427 should come with one.

On the flip side the stock V-6 is a new much more refined and sophisticated engine whose full potential we haven’t even began to scratch. Moreover, unless gas prices relent, it is the trend for the foreseeable future.

But on a positive note, the stock V-8 should eventually be a collector’s item if left completely stock and unused.

No remorse no regrets.

But that’s just me!

Cheers! LOL!
