buzz8907 09-05-2009, 09:59 PM well today i was bored before going to work at the hospital so, i did the washer mod...i used inside diameter 3/16" lock washers. two on the bottom bolts and one on the top. I cant say its exactly what i thought it would be, but for 3$ and 15 minutes i cant complain, its some were between a ricer and a muscle car lol. IDK itl do until i find an exhaust system that seems right for me. Drive by videos will be up in a few if anyone is confused on how to this PM me

That seems to be on the agressive side (two on top & one one the bottom) as far as the washer mods go. What ever trips your trigger. You cant beat the sound for the $$$. Besides this mod is "tuneable" :)
buzz8907 09-05-2009, 11:46 PM i originally used one on the bottom as well, went up to two liked the sound better, little more drone but completely barable. and i completely agree, theres no beating the price.
hazer396 09-06-2009, 02:14 AM ya but you lose alot of power.. i put mine back after losing to a RSX.. with the washers...
now ill kill that motherf$#%er
buzz8907 09-06-2009, 03:56 AM i really havnt noticed that much power loss, maybe on the highway accelerating from like 55+
The Dark Knight 09-08-2009, 10:32 AM I noticed a little power loss. I had done this and loved the sounds...but then I felt like hearing what others heard...so I pulled over when I was driving with the wife this Saturday...and I got out...told her to take off fast...and turn around and do a fly by...I HATE IT!!! Sounds like crap from outside...but nice from inside...went home and removed them...I prefer the sound of the engine lol
hazer396 09-08-2009, 09:54 PM my custom air intake makes my **** sound like a V8 from time to time...
and man i hate the inside cabin noise the drone from 1500rpm-2500rpm
sounds like a old camry thats missin an exhaust
hazer396 09-08-2009, 09:56 PM but i was told from the outside it sounds good
G8JOE 09-08-2009, 10:10 PM I got one 5/8 on top n bottom but kept the gasket. Sound great everywhere and no drone. Rumbles a deep big block sound at idle and slow going, dissapears in 5th n 6th. Under full throttle only sounds slightly louder then stock. I notice absolutely no loss of power, nor can I see how you would, there's still plenty of back pressure etc. I like it.
majesticix 09-09-2009, 12:07 AM You're not losing power with a washer this far back. At full WOT, at least with an intake, the engine w/intake overpowers all sound from the washers. I'm running with 2 (1/16") on each bolt. I only notice the washer effect on low-medium throttle. I've gotten nothing but compliments on the sound. To each his own, very easy to put back to stock if you're not game.
VQ35DE 09-09-2009, 05:19 AM Where do the washers go ?

And you right but your in a V6 forum....and you have a V8....the Sound from the V6 and the V8 are 2 totally different sounds...and on the V6 you do loose allot of back pressure and also sound like a rice bucket.
hey guys am just being honest.....i hate the washer mod!
majesticix 09-09-2009, 07:41 AM Good call, I just realized this.

Crawl under the rear of the car right behind the rear tires. You'll see two flanges (one per side) that have two bolts on them. Towards the rear of the car from those flanges are the rear pipes and mufflers and tips. Simply use a ratchet (when the car is cool! OUCH on hot exhaust!) and loosen both bolts, then take one bolt completely out and use a hand on the muffler to rotate it a little bit to allow you to put a washer between the two flanges and held up by the bolt. In other words, thread the bolt THROUGH the washer that you inserted in between the two flanges. Tighten down the bolt that you removed that now has a washer in between. Repeat for the other bolt on that side, and start her up for a few seconds. If you like that sound, then do the same for the two bolts on the other side of the car.
I got one 5/8 on top n bottom but kept the gasket. Sound great everywhere and no drone. Rumbles a deep big block sound at idle and slow going, dissapears in 5th n 6th. I'll give you about 2 weeks. Your gaskets will be totally gone. I'd highly recommend that you re-do that and remove your gaskets, just washers or no washers. Once the gaskets are exposed to the internal-pipe temperature of the hot exhaust (through the artificial hole that you're creating with the washers) then they'll burn up and char over time, so this removes some of the "plug and play" capability of the washer mod -- you'd have to buy new gaskets if you remove the washers to return it to stock.
I have the V8 car and have a single washer on each of the 4 bolts. I've also removed my gaskets after the second day and kept them in my toolbox for safe keeping.
Good luck V6ers !!
The Dark Knight 09-09-2009, 09:46 AM That's right! I forgot to mention...I got a V6! lol...I'm pretty sure with at V8 is would sound awesome!
majesticix 09-09-2009, 01:00 PM I just see "washer" and jump into the thread guns blazing. The V6 Engine Tech category should have been an indication to me :)
