I purchased a POS ford truck with over 220K miles for 150 bucks. This is my answer to driving in winter....last year me and the G8 did not have fun in the snow! I am going to avoid the headache this year!
lol

Where does one get deals like this? I would happily buy a POS for under $300 for use as a winter rat.

I put some 18 inch dunlop sp winter sport m3's(245/45/18) on my gt last winter and had no problems with them. Same winter tires I used on my '05 g35.

If I was buying now i'd go with the blizzak lm-25s at the closeout price. Those are a steal right now at $160 each.

Where are you all seeing these $150-$160 deals on the LM-25s? I'm in the market. Feel free to PM me if needed. Thanks.

Why 18" rims?

The 18" tires have taller sidewalls to soak up winter potholes better, and tires are much cheaper in 18" than 19".

I am also interested. It snowed a few flakes here today...and I'm still running summer tires!!!!

Please PM if you know anything. Thanks!

I bought a set of 4 Enkei 17" wheels with Hankook ice bears V -rated 225/55-17 for under $900. As I don't usually get that much snow, I should be fine. I don't plan to carve ice with my car.

They must have raised the prices on the LM25's
What do you guys think of Blizzak WS60 ?
With Sport Edition SE-14 ?

The prices are still $155 (H-speed rated) or $160 (V-speed rated) per tire in the size 245/45/18" for the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 tires on TireRack's website.

Does Boston get alot of hard core snow & ice storms ?
If so: Get the Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60 winter tires.

IMO, I would go with the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-series winter performance tires.
They will last longer.
Drive better on cold dry pavement.
& handle a whole lot better in spirited driving days.
But will have less snow/ice traction.

I ordered from TireRack on Thursday night after-hours.
3 tires/wheels arrived to me yesterday by UPS Ground.
& 1 tire/wheel today.
That is 2-3 business days to me from South Bend, IN to Toronto, ON in Canada :)

I went with the new Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 winter performance tires & 18"x8" MSW (designed by OZ) Type 16 wheels.
But I live in the city area.
So, if there is too much snow/or a storm day: I will take public transit to work :(

It depends. Last year we got hit pretty hard and this year they are saying will be a lot of snow.

I did the search on tirerack and it didnt say $155, but I will try again, I must have done something wrong.

I will also look at the type 16 wheels.

Thanks

Oh its because they post the runflats in the search for the tire they recommend for the G8.

Pass on the run-flat tires.
(I bought a space saver spare tire & jack kit from JHP.)

Everyone that has run-flat tires comments on how hard/rough/bad the ride is, because of the hard sidewalls required on the run-flat tires.

Has anybody here downsized their winter tires from the stock tire size?

Yup, stock set is the sports 19 inch wheels with 245/40-19 summer tires. Winter set is 17 (17x7) wheels with 225/55-17 winter tires. I have not mounted them yet but they should fit according to discount tire's site. It is still relatively warm, but there have been a few mornings with frost.

It is good on paper with an excellent price. I had ordered my wheel/tire set from discount tires with the Hankook Ice Bears when I saw these tires the next day on the web. I did think of changing my order and called my salesman on Discount Tire to inquiry about the tires. He could not provide any comments as the tires are new so I stuck with the Ice Bears. After reading Consumer Reports ratings, I wished I had changed my order because Consumer Reports rated the slightly more expensive Ice Bears dead last. I would have saved a few bucks for the set of 4 tires and the Falkens should be at least as good as the bottom rated Ice Bears. But I knew going in that the Ice Bears and other similar V-rated performance winter tires are not going to be as good in the deep snow as lower speed rated non-performance winter tires with deeper threads. The threads on the Falkens look good and grippy in the snow.
