: Paint Protection Wrap
AOCAS-NY 04-24-2008, 09:28 PM last weekend I went to get my wrap installed but they could not get the front plate off. Apparently the drill bit screws used by pontiac are extremely rare. At first they wanted to force the screws out but they could not gaurantee being able to put the plate back, so I said ABSOULUTLEY not. I decided to go directly to pontiac instead and the front plate was removed in less than five minutes with out damage done to the car. So this weekend I should be able to get it out on...finally!
Gpdan 04-24-2008, 10:21 PM Thats funny. My plates were taken off with just a phillips screwdriver when i got my clear bra yesterday.
GR8 Vino 04-25-2008, 07:26 AM What type of prices are you guys paying for your clear bra?
Urthman 04-25-2008, 07:48 AM Do you think the clear "bra" is worth getting? I considered it when I got my tint done but I had never seen it before and was unsure of how it would look. Am I correct that it only covers the front portion of the hood?
AOCAS-NY 04-25-2008, 06:54 PM Did they take off the whole bracket that holds the plate or just the plate itself? If so then you got lucky. lots of luck with it.
AOCAS-NY 04-25-2008, 06:55 PM I am paying $800 for my wrap.
AOCAS-NY 04-25-2008, 06:58 PM I had a black infinti G35 coupe prior to my G8. My coupe looked horrible everytime I washed it because you could see all the paint chips from the rock dents. So I would say its worth it if you want to keep your car looking brand new. The wrap will only last approximately 5 years.
68Rustang 04-27-2008, 09:50 AM and you can unsually have the front end painted for less than the cost of the wrap.
GR8 Vino 04-27-2008, 10:14 AM I was the first G8 GT to have one done from my dealership so they used mine for their pattern. I got it for $599, regular $799. The custom installer company had to keep the car overnight because of black being so much harder for the coating to "cure".I have had a lot of black cars and I do quite a bit of freeway driving so it was a must. The clear bra actually lasts easily up to 10 years, they come with a 5 yr complete replacement gurantee. The bra covers half way up the hood, the entire front bumper, lower front fog light area, light lenses and the backs of the side mirrors. I think it looks great. It is better than paying $300 for a vinyl/cloth bra that you have to take off every time you wash the car. And when it rains. I really like mine.
G8 612 04-27-2008, 12:32 PM Does anyone have pictures of this clear wrap? I'm tinking of doing it to my GT also just want to see it first.
Mr. Sandog 04-27-2008, 12:42 PM Wow, that's a lot of money for some plastic wrap.

Gpdan 04-27-2008, 10:12 PM I just got my clear bra on wednesday. They took off the complete plate bracket and covered the bumper, hood, fenders, side mirrors and even the door handles. Total, it cost me $575. It is well worth the money.

my wrap was installed today, but i had to leave my car at the place over night because it was raining outside. I was told to leave it over night so that the wrap can dry. I will post pics when i get a chance.

wow! that was a great price, i paid $800 for mine. I got everything done that u got done with the exception of my door handles.
4gasem 04-27-2008, 10:43 PM 600-800 bucks? I'll repaint the front after 5 years for half that! :dunno:
Snafu 04-27-2008, 11:24 PM I had a 3m clear bra installed on one of my cars back in 2000. You won't notice there unless you get wax residue on it. People would say wow...somebody keyed your hood. After 5 yrs...the clear bra was looking old. I was going to get a new one but I hit a deer and had the whole front end redone.

Not necessarily. Any reputable shop can repaint the panels and nobody would know they were resprayed. Add to that the fact that most dealerships don't really scrutinize trades that closely and I doubt you would "lose" anything.
I think the clear film products are a pretty good idea. I had every intention of putting one on my car until I found out what the installers were charging. Makes the $250-$300 per panel that you might pay later to have paintwork done seem like a relative bargain.
Just as a heads up for the more adventurous among us, there are quite a few ebay sellers that will sell precut film kits for you to install yourself for ~$200.00.

I spoke with a guy in Nassau County that does high end detailing work, and his proposal for clear bra seems very professional and extremely thorough, but so is the price, ballpark over a $1,000.
