: Airbag Flashing Light

Just got my G8 off the lot today. One minor problem, the airbag light continuously flashes and never turns off. In the owner's manual it says that the airbag light should flash for a few minutes upon starting the engine then it should go away. Mine never goes away, it just keeps flashing. Is anyone else having this issue?

Guess i'll have to take it back to the dealership tomorrow and rip into him about it.

I bet they need to give it a run over with a tech 2 to clear it.

They just need to program the airbag lights. My dealer never programmed it from the factory. They plugged a cord into my G8 and i was out the door in 10 mins.

I'm guessing mine is the same situation. I'm going to ask the dealer reimburse me for gas since they were dumb enough not to originally take the 10 minutes to do it before we left.

If possible could you post more information.

Could find nothing in the Service Manual or Owner's Manual that says there could be a flashing airbag readiness light beyond the several flashes at start up.

Also could find no requirement that the air bag system requires any special attention during new car or delivery prep.

I don't really have any information beyond that. The service guy just told me that the airbag indicator timeout was never programmed. He plugged a cord in, we waited maybe 10 mins and he said there ya go. That was it.

Are we talking about the air bag on / off light on the rear view mirror that never goes off? Can this be turned off?

Mine did the same thing and the dealer reprogrammed the computer and that took care of it.

No, they are talking about the one on the cluster/speedometer. The one on the mirror just wasn't done right by Australians hwo built it:D. If you plug any GM US built mirror with airbag sign, it will dim at night and be barely visible. When I installed my dimming mirror in that place, it solved the issue - the airbag sign dims at night and is barely visible. By the way, I ended up with two dimming mirrors so I'll put one up for sale soon.

Does the temp feature of a silverado auto dimming mirror work on the g8? Also if it doesn't how hard would it be to wire a sending unit on front of the car like the front of the truck?

Cool! Where did you obtain the mirror?

Ebay is the best best...cheapest. If you can get a CTS mirror, most of them do not have the compass/temp in them either. Most trucks/SUVs have the compass AND temp in the top right corner of the mirror. I think they are like 30-50 bucks on Ebay and a couple of hundred at the dealer.

(no I dont have one...yet!)

It's a 10 minute job. Just remove the mirror and open the case. Insert a small strip of electricians tape between the led panel and the mirror window. Reinstall the mirror. Now you'll never see that annoying airbag light and the modification is reversible if you ever decide you want it back.

Of course it would be easier to put the tape on the outer surface of the mirror.
