Any idea what that stock sub amp puts out for power?

I was wondering the specs on the stock amp too. Because when I use my XM radio through the AUX in port the bass and volume don't get loud enough.

I have an Alpine 5 channel amp, that I would love to use if it has more RMS power than the stock amp. I think my Alpine is rated at 75 RMS x 4

'IF' I remember correctly - there is an adjustment on your radio that allows you do increase the gain of the AUX input. It's buried somewhere in the radio setting menu.

Again 'IF' I remember correctly the G8 brochure stated the amp rating of 230 watts for the 6CD/Radio.

Yep, pretty disappointed with stereo as well. I don't mind that they kept costs down and used typical low-grade paper speakers, and subs that even with amp gain maxed dont act like subs. But, when the head unit does not play the full spectrum of Hz, in the name of speaker preservation AND cannot be replaced due to climate controls, Im irritated. Even addtl amps and quality speakers will only see a modified sound signal still.

Ive heard of a few devices to help compensate for lack of RCA outputs, but for the price are only bandaids.

Anyone else got any reasonable solutions?

I wish someone would remove their amp in the G8 trunk so we could get the specs and maybe see how hard it would be to replace it. Once I ditch the speakers for some decent 2 ohm Infinity's, it's on to the amp.

Providing there is room, what about removing the Battery gauge above the head unit and making an adapter to put an aftermarket head unit in there and running it seperate from the stock system?

I hear that. I want to know the specs on the stock amp. Because I've got a pretty decent 5 channel Alpine AMP that I'd love to use instead of the stock one. Or I could buy a higher powered one.

The "radio" (FM, AM) has plenty of power, and my iPod has enough power through the AUX in port, BUT my XM radio does not have enough volume and bass through the AUX IN port. I've turned up the bass & treble on the xm radio and I turned up the "line out" option on the XM radio.

I need more power & better speakers.....

I agree. My XM RC unit is much lower in volume to my MP3 and the Cd/Radio volume? What gives???

i have m/b door speakers and a 10 in sub in my trunk but when i put my x/m radio on the volume is very low so putting a better amp is not the going to help

Is it possible to turn up the gain on the factory XM receiver? Radio and CD sound OK but the volume on XM is way too low. When I switch back to radio its always blaring loud.

And if I remember correctly they also claim (we have yet to find all) 11 speakers. That would put our systems at about 20 watts per channel and explain why we can't get good bass/ volume:(

The sub amp is located in front of the battery in the trunk. The sub amp is weak and adding a sub amp and replacing the stock subs makes a huge difference.

Speakers:

1 center channel front
2 tweeters dash
2 front doors
2 X 2-way rear doors
2 rear deck 8" subs

11 including 2-ways.

The other is in the head unit.

I added a sub amp and it made a big difference It sounds much better with the missing low bass added.

I'm just trying to figure out where to put the audiocontrol LC6i. I have already added an eD Nine.1 amp and a 13Av.2 sub today. Just used a Monster LOC. But I want the LC6i put in the car and replace the doors and add a Nine.4.

Lot of work, I think someone posted the outputs of the HU somewhere in this forum...

Norm8332: Do you just have the aub amp directly hooked up to system, or do you have one of those OEM Integration units.

Also, now with the amp, when you go past 35 does the bass still go up?

This sounds like what I want......

I'm not a pro by far, but all I did was get a line level converter and put it in between the output of the sub amp and the new amp I installed then ran the outputs of the new amp to the existing subs. I turned down the output of the stock amp to limit added distortion.

I do recommend changing the stock subs because they are only rated at 50W. They are 2ohm. They do take about 150W each music for extended periods without problems. But they start to clip and distort when you really turn it up. I could blow them with the AMP I installed but haven't yet.

I think it sounds good, but I'm going to change the subs when I locate some to fit in the factory location that are decent.

I think the HU does pretty good for the mid/highs.

I don't need audiophile quality. Some on this board go to extremes to get near perfect sound.

i know this if off topic but i dind't want to create a new thread, I swapped out subs and amp(Kicker 08zx400.1) but i don't know what to set the low pass filter at. Do i adjust it by ear or does anyone know what frequency the head units puts out?

pantherblack09
09-29-2008, 11:53 PM
all the LPF does is limit what the frequency the sub will play, you have 2 8" subs so I would not put it any lower than 80HZ to 100HZ, well i shouldn't say that, you can put it to whatever you like
