When did you or are you going to do your first oil change? (miles)

Mine is right over 1000 miles, and I am going to do it this weekend. Going with Castrol GTX for my first change. I have ran it in all of my vehicles to 160,000 + miles without a problem. After that I am following the oil life gauge in the car and I am switching to Royal Purple full synthetic.
There is a lot of discussion about not needing to use a natural on the first change and putting full synthetic in it from day one, but I have heard it from so many places that i figure it can't be completely false and it wouldn't hurt.

I'm going to do mine when the car tells me it's time.

At 9 quarts, with synthetic costing what it does, I will not be jumping the gun on oil changes.

I have roughly 1,500 and will be doing one tomorrow. Going with Mobile 1

I hear ya. But I am just not sure what they put in there from the factory. Could be anything. I've hear its Mobile1 but who knows? I am sure they have a huge tank that just pumps stuff into the cars coming down the line....

But after this first one, I'm checking the oil life gauge to do mine.

As posted in another thread, GM has put so much thought into the oil life monitor that they stand behind it. That being said, if I have engine problems caused by following the oil life meter on the car, then I will be waiting for the dealer to open to file my warranty claim.

Also, I was under the impression that the G8 doesnt run Mobile1. It isnt printed on the oil filler cap like most Mobile1 cars (vetter, CTS-V, GTO, etc) either.

Hmm, I hadn't even noticed that, it was just something I was told.
All the more reason to get whatever cheap sludge they funneled in there out.:p

I am going to be doing the same. I just want that break-in stuff out for piece of mind. Even if it is okay to wait. I'll feel better if I do it. After this I am going by the monitor on the car as well.

Thanks. I'm just over 1200 miles and I think I may do it this weekend. I'm still unsure whether I'll go with synthetic or not. For this change I probably won't.

Get your Mobil 1 at Wal Mart as they have it in 5 gal containers which brings the price down a bunch.....

I should be close to 3000mi the weekend before I drive to NY. I've got 9qts of Royal Purple 5w30 and a Purolator PureONE Micronic (PL12222) filter. The ramps I had for my z28 are the same ones someone was using in another thread.

After that I'll go by the oil life monitor. It kept my Silverado healthy well past 100K with Castrol Syntec Blend. It should do as well with the G8 using RP.

My stupid ramps and my floor jack won't get under the stupid car! I guess I will be going to Home Depot tomorrow to buy some 2x8's. :(
