: My Dyno Tune results!

The day finally came and Alan Futral worked hard on it. I lost track of how many pulls he made. I would say in all maybe seven dyno pulls.
My only mod is the New Era Performance Intake that was in place during the first to the last dyno run. So I dunno what I made with the stock box. Sorry to anyone wondering. The NEP Intake is mouse quiet with plain regular driving, but mash the gas and it lets the driver know a big V-8 is under the hood screaming like a mountain lion. Combine that sound and power, at first it seems scary fast from a 20mph throttle dump.
Anyway he found a peak of almost 42 hp and 40 ft-lbs torque on 93 Octane Fuel as shown by the DynoJet. He figures if you factor in Engine temps, and ambient temps an average gain of 28 hp and 26 ft-lbs should be a target.
Driveability was OK for him (he drives way faster stuff very often), but to me...WOW. With traction control off I can honestly say traction is an issue. It won't "smok'em down" from a dead stop or anything, but there is definately much more wheel spin than stock.
So to anyone wondering, once you factor in the power loss at the tranny, my G8 GTs estimated max engine power is:
411 HP
432 ft-lbs Torque
Ain't bad from 361 HP and 385 ft-lbs torque.
All I can say, with the lower rear axle ratios....the GXP is gonna be AMAZING when it comes out.
Torqued 04-25-2008, 03:13 PM Congratulations. Alan's a great LSx tuner.
Boomer 04-25-2008, 03:21 PM heck ya! great results :)
HardEight 04-25-2008, 04:46 PM How can I get in touch with the guy who tuned yours? I live in MS and LA is only a short drive for me, and would rather take it to someone with experience...
Mike @ New Era 04-25-2008, 09:09 PM Damn , nice results ! Alan Futral is a great tuner indeed , he's been building lsx cars for a long time .

My wife and I rode around tonight and MAN is this car fun!! The Dr. Jeckel to Mr. Hyde attitude the NEP Intake has really adds to the fun. Quiet like Grandpa's Cadillac then BAM!!!
Gas mileage is in the toilet. I simply can't stop with the fun. Infact, its so much fun, the price of fuel isn't bothering me yet. To anyone wondering, get a tune and intake. Exhaust is next, but I am waiting for more results from users here on drone.
Mike @ New Era 04-25-2008, 10:01 PM Glad to hear you are enjoying it !

Awesome news! Does the engine 'growl' with CAI kit now with the tune?
If you can do a video clip on an engine bay rev, that would be awesome!
Looks like a Magnaflow cat back is in store for you!

It growls and I will post up a clip!!
Thanks for posting. As i think this will be as far as ill take my car. CAI + 93 tune.
Either get the G8 GT or get the GXP.. but i don't think i can wait that long. Really want a new car by July 09
hotshot2003 04-27-2008, 03:13 PM Any idea if Alan can do the TCM tuning on the tranny as well? I grew up in Walker, where his shop is at and would love dealing with someone local if he could provide all the things I want. Thanks.
vhato 04-27-2008, 08:03 PM As of now, he can't do a TCM tune. It REALLY needs a line pressure increase with the removal of Torque Management. I would guess as soon as HPTuners releases a way to tune the TCM, it will be off-limits to him. And for whatever reason, the HPTuners beta software keeps the electric fans on and disables Displacement-on-Demand. The best mileage I saw out of tank after a tune was 20.4MPG. The tank I ran after the tune came in at 17.9MPG for obvious reasons....that tank also included the dyno runs.
HardEight 04-28-2008, 09:12 AM A lot of other people are saying they are getting great fuel mileage numbers after their tune. Are you saying yours got worse?
or is that just because you can't keep your foot out of it? lol
Mike @ New Era 04-28-2008, 09:57 PM Hey vhato, HPtuners doesn't keep the fans on all the time and disable DOD, the tuner does this in his tune.
Mike P 04-29-2008, 01:21 AM vhato: Hey, I haven't seen the video clip of your car's engine bay revving now that you got your tune & CAI.
Post it up when you get a chance..... Thanks!
...
vhato 04-29-2008, 06:32 AM Haven't had a chance to post up the video. Maybe this evening. My gas mileage with moderate driving is at 19MPG, I was seeing 24MPG. I asked Alan about the fans and DoD and he said he didn't recall changing those values, so I will return and have him make adjustments. Eitherway, when in Engineering Mode it stays in "All Active" all the time. My HPT upgrade should be in soon too.
HANNlBAL KING 04-29-2008, 08:06 AM Very impressive numbers. It looks like an intake/tune/catback setup may put these G8's in the 350rwhp range :D
vhato 04-29-2008, 05:58 PM Here is a WOT video letting everyone here how angry the girl sounds with the tune and New Era Intake. If you listen close you can hear second gear on this hot day. I let off the throttle a tad just near the 2nd-3rd upshift, then totally off after shift. Stock exhaust. Totally quiet until WOT. Maybe I should video that.

Mike P 04-30-2008, 01:08 AM Sweet video! Thanks for posting it................. I'm hoping after this weekend I will also be posting my own CAI & Tune video!
