Any benefits or hazards to taking the engine cover off because I hate for it to get dirty!!

There seems to be some debate about whether or not removing it will help keep the engine cooler. I have also heard it is there for sound baffling as well.

So who remove it and who didn't?

Not sure if it runs any cooler, but it doesn't sound noticably louder either.:dunno:

I just don't like those covers. I like to be able to see the engine. That way I can see if any wires/hoses are coming out of their keepers and if anything is seeping out of the top of the motor.:oldfogey:

Oh, and incase you're wondering, the cover is only held on by clips that slide over a couple lines on top of the engine. You only have to pull up gently on all four corners and it pulls right up and slides out from under the cowl. It only weighs a couple pounds so I doubt it helps much in that department.

Another option is to change out the one big engine cover for split covers like this.

Since I opened up the hood vents I notice that when it rains hard (always here) you get enough water on the cover to keep it nice and clean. The steam coming out of the hood when you stop drives other drivers nuts too. :stickpoke:

I took mine off, engine looks better without a generic crappy cover.

No noticeable differences
