: Vararam Fix
leadsled 09-25-2009, 12:41 AM Ok I dont think I am the only one out there that hates the color of the intake coupler that come with this intake. I am not sure why vararam didn't just sell the intake with a reducer rather than 2 fittings? That along with the brass nipple for the PCV has me thinking WTF (love it other than that). Both of these items make this intake look some what cheap under the hood. I have a solution for the coupler it is a 4" ID reduced to 3.5" ID intake hose and its BLACK.. but nothing yet on the nipple. So any one aside from me take it upon themself to fix this if so please let me know what you did.

TrUcKeR 09-25-2009, 03:16 AM it's 'coupler', not a 'cupper'.
Now, back to your jumbled, hard-to-read post.... Did you order that reducer and fit it? Did it work?
Please take the time in your response to type in some semblance of proper grammatical structure so that it doesn't make our brains hurt trying to figure out what you are saying. KTHXBAI.
LBStacks 09-25-2009, 07:36 AM TrUcKeR- Get some sleep, your grumpy. (More than usual)

Ok you have me with the suck ass spelling... I called summit and they don't have in stock so its going to be a little bit of a wait. I want to see if anyone else had the same thoughts or not and if so did they do anything about it.
iceman302 09-25-2009, 04:06 PM I think this is a great idea. I will order one when they're in stock. Let us know. Thanks.

If your going to buy one on line.. This one is$10 less my buddy uses this on his 6.0L in is truck and loves it. I am going to go into summit tomorrow and see if they have something else that will work in stock I some times feel bad making the sales guys look up small stuff for hours over the phone.
Omega 09-26-2009, 05:03 PM I have no need for a hose that is triple reinforced for boosted applications. This would do the trick too:
$11.50 + shipping

Step two in this would be relocating the PVC? hose to somewhere other than the reducer. I am pretty sure I can tap into one of the plastic hoses that are there on the TB, but I am not 100% sure.
leadsled 09-26-2009, 11:51 PM Pics of the updated intake...

leadsled 09-26-2009, 11:56 PM I bought the coupler from Summit Racing. It was made by Spectra... part # spe-9741. It even came with new clamps! It cost about 15.00. I ended up painting the brass nipple black, and made "L" brackets for the radiator. For $20.00 and an hour of work it looks 100% better- the way it should have been!
leadsled 09-26-2009, 11:58 PM This really looks like crap when you compare it...

SleeperG8 09-27-2009, 06:32 AM I just ordered one. Can wait to try it out!
Walter 09-27-2009, 06:38 AM may i recommend some tbolt clamps too? they look alot cleaner then hose clamps.
SleeperG8 09-27-2009, 06:44 AM Which size tbolt clamps would we need? 4" and 3.5"?
Walter 09-27-2009, 06:46 AM not a clue, just trying to help :)
SleeperG8 09-27-2009, 06:48 AM :slap:
Thanks for the heads up. :wink2:
Walter 09-27-2009, 06:48 AM lol.
Omega 09-27-2009, 09:46 AM That looks MUCH better.
Any plan to remove the intake silencer cover? Did you just tuck the heater hose off to the side?
TrUcKeR 09-27-2009, 07:54 PM You'd want clamps that will fit the outer diameter of the reducer. But I bet 3.5 and 4 would work cuz they have a bit of leeway built in.
TrUcKeR 09-27-2009, 07:57 PM and made "L" brackets for the radiator. !
'splain yoself! L brackets? LOL.
Thanks for posting the P/N of that reducer. $16 is better than $40! I'm going to order one for me too.

I am glad you all like it..
Yeah no problem I would like everyone to throw away those lame looking red hoses that come with the intake unless your car is red and that works for you. So an "L" bracket... Hum well it looks like an L when you hold it up.LOL
I made them to support the radiator in fear that one day the vibrations would cause problems in the lower mounting surface on the radiator. I don't trust the intake to hold it for the next 100K miles. If you look at your radiator each side will have a tab with a 10mm bolt and look towards yourself and about 1" in-front of that is a tab with a hole in it. One of the 3 that are on the black plastic. I made the pice to go in-front of the tab on the radiator and under the tab on the upper bumper area. I wish I would have taken a picture maybe tomorrow I will have a few min its easy to see.
TrUcKeR 09-28-2009, 11:39 AM I understand what you are talking about. Maybe start a new DIY Vararam Support Fix thread with pictures?
I think others will want to do it.
leadsled 09-28-2009, 06:16 PM Trucker
Thats not a bad idea. I will do that when I get my car back later this week I just dropped it off at the dealership so they can fix my rear main leak.
STEWART14 09-28-2009, 06:35 PM I received an e-mail from www dot jetttstream dot com saying that he is building a replacement coupler for the vararam, it will be one piece with hose barb integrated. He said keep an eye out for it.
SleeperG8 09-29-2009, 08:29 AM Eta??
TrUcKeR 09-29-2009, 01:58 PM jetttstream can't seem to keep anything in stock, so i'm not going to get my hopes up about them.

That is good information to know. I spent less than $20 on the "fix" and over 300 for the intake. I hope they keep the price down if not this is intake is going to start to get a little pricy all said and done.
leadsled 10-01-2009, 12:18 AM That looks MUCH better.

You know I don't plan to remove the intake silencer cover as of now. With the heater hose I cut about 4" out of it and loosened the clamps and re-angled them to stay off my coil packs.
TayDaOne 10-01-2009, 01:33 AM I just put 2 of these on GTOs and i just hated how it looked. I never thought about this idea. It makes it look so much cleaner. Great idea, looks amazing. Ill tell the GTO guys about it an show them how much better it looks an im sure they will jump right on it.
learjet60 10-01-2009, 09:41 AM Not cheap, but nice looking. Found it by clicking one of the banner ads above this thread.
