: Anyone install XM yet?
renegade6 04-27-2008, 08:48 AM Does anyone have install pics/tips of their XM install?
I'm debating on buying one or, waiting until the 09s come out to see what can be adapted to the 08s.
Mike P 04-27-2008, 09:38 AM I have a XM Pioneer Inno2 that I've been using through the AUX in hole. The only problem is that there are too many wires. I have to get my set up fixed at Best Buy or a sound shop.
Pitman 04-27-2008, 09:38 AM I was not happy that after buying a new car to find out that it did not have XM. I wanted the car and still would have got it but how can GM put out a car today without XM?
gbcop 04-27-2008, 10:51 AM Again? What is so special about XM? When I first bought my G8 I called and canceled my XM service that I had in my Dodge. And the only channel I would listen to was the comedy channel, as the rest of the channels SUCKED. ALL of them are on a loop(including the comedy channel). If you think I'm lying you've never been on a long trip. Which is why I purchased XM to begin with. But when your paying $14 a month to listen to something you can get for free, only to get aggravated because you've heard the same song 3 times now I don't see what's so special about it? :dunno:
And let's also not forget to mention that when I canceled last month, the idiot on the phone never processed my request, so I was charged an additional $14 for a month of service for something I had no way of listening to, and I had to waist 20 minutes on the phone talking to someone who sounded like Ms. Cleo's sister who I could barely understand who gave me the impression again the service was canceled, again and that I would be getting a refund in 2-3 days..

That's odd...
I take long trips all the time in my motorhome (8/10 hours at a time) and have never experienced the looping you are referring to. But then again my favorite channels are Top Tracks (46) and The Sixties (6).
Obviously purchasing my G8/GT was not based on it having XM. But once I figure out how to get to the antenna lead for the radio I install my RoadyXT.
BTW - I enjoy XM a lot, enough to have 3 of my vehicles with XM subscriptions.
Rufas 04-27-2008, 02:56 PM Can anyone tell me how to gain access to the antenna leadin for the G8. I have a RoadyXT with the XM modulator that connects directly to the antenna leadin.

Why use a modulator? I've installed a Sirius unit and used the front Auxiliary input instead. It's sounds much better than the modulator that I used in my GTP.

I want a simple installation without any cables hanging off the front of my radio.
I'm not an audiophile and my ears can't hear the difference between the FM modulator tied directly to the antenna and the aux input.

I had it in my CTS-V and liked it therefore; I want to have it again but, without a bunch of cables hanging everywhere.
I guess your overcharge makes up for me getting three months free when I had my service.
Rob Moser 04-28-2008, 10:29 AM I installed my Roady 2 the day I bought the car. I am using the FM modulator on 88.3. May hook up directly thru antenna later. Positioned XM antenna just below stock antenna and routed wire under trim all the way to Roady. Roady is mounted by Velco (removable for other boats-vehicles) between radio and steering column, just below the brushed aluminum looking removable trim piece. Took about 1 1/2 hrs to route all wires & put trim back. Would have gone much faster with 4 hands. Power comes from outlet in console. Would have been easy to hot wire. Looks great next to my Garmin that I positioned to block the idiot bars above radio!

Hey Rob, your set up sounds cool. When you get a chance, can you post a couple of pictures of your XM set up? I'm looking for some ideas for my Pioneer Inno2, so that little to no wires are visable.
Thanks for the information.....

hotshot2003 04-29-2008, 08:24 AM Assuming the G8 has a regular antenna connector going into the radio, buy the XM Direct connect modulator. It will plug in between the antenna and the radio. Then you dont have to worry about clamping the thing around the antenna itself!

That's my problem - can't get to the antenna lead.
hotshot2003 04-29-2008, 02:47 PM This schematic of the radio shows the antenna going straight into it. Have you pulled the panel off on the side to look behind the radio? The schematic is attached. There is a post on this forum detailing how to actually remove the radio as well if you end up needing to pull it out. When I get my car it will be coming out so I can get some things figured out on it.

That's my problem, I can't get the panels off. I can get the bottom panel loose, but the ECM plug seems to be keeping it from coming off. I've tried pulling the lower dash panel off, but I'm afraid to force it for fear of breaking it. I can not find any obvious retainers holding that panel on.
banditelvis721 05-05-2008, 11:25 AM so if i have sirius direct connect it should work?
speeder 05-05-2008, 11:31 AM It should, I have my Sirius Sportster hooked into the front AUX and it's working fine.

Yes, the OBD II plug holds it in place but it’s only 2 Phillips screws.
I can’t believe it’s taking you that long to find a screwdriver. :D
Rob Moser 05-05-2008, 10:20 PM GIT OUT YER SAWZALL!!! AN LET ER RIP!!

smooch 08-30-2008, 08:51 PM Did your Dodge come with xm built in? Doesn't Dodge come with Sirius? I have had XM for 6 years now and I listen to Top Tracks (46) Big Tracks (49) Boneyard (41) and Squizz (48). I can keep a station on all day and not hear a repeat for at least the 8 hrs at work
